Something to beware of with the Pittsburg, and its Daytona variant, is the snap rings that hold the arms to the ram. Some have a tendency to press outward against the rings pushing them off and a few have failed allowing the jack to suddenly drop. Check the rings regularly, if they start bending you're getting into the danger zone.

Great Tip!!! Cuz that's EXACTLY what happened to me with my identical trustee? old Pittsburg last year, partially my fault. I was over working it and in a (pinch) almost literally in my slightly unlevel gravel driveway, I was trying to change the drivers side front flat on my 99 f150 V-8 and of course gave it that last stroke to max it out. It was at that moment I realized I fu**ed up😳 it was all in slow motion as it rocked to one side that is until the snap ring sheared off and down she came luckily only partially because it was leaning towards a bank along with the neighbors stockade fence yet still came down quite far since the wheel was already off and the bank was not hard packed like the driveway. Of course I should have known better but that rainy day it decided not to stay running if only for a few seconds to move it into a better position and damn it I was in a hurry and all alone.🙃 As many of us know that's when the 💩 always happens. The kicker of the story is I had a wrecker in route just to sell it for salvage yet I thought I needed the tires aired up to prove it runs and rolls to get it onto the flatbed plus it was in a tight spot to begin with, he said he could have just yanked it right up the ramp and didn't seem too concerned with it running. I could have been fubar'd💀 for only $650, oh well only hurt my little bit of pride. If you can't laugh at yourself who the hell can you laugh at? Live and learn people,,, or Learn patience -n- Live.😆✌️

I have the Pittsburgh 1.5 ton aluminum and I used the longer top half of the lifting handle from my other Daytona 3 ton long reach jack. The added length helps with decreasing the amount of effort to jack up a car. The shorter top half on the 3ton long reach helps the longer jack when in tight areas that does not allow much lift bar movement

ya think? The 1-Ton jack would've been fine. It's doubtful you'd get more than 1,200 lbs of load if you picked up the front of the car. Remember ... at most (on the engine side) a jack that's only raising up one side can lift is about 60%. Even then, there's usually about a 2.5x safety margin. Project Farm tested those PLASTIC ramps ... and the crappiest Chinese brand still held over 9,000 lbs. It'd take ~4,500 lbs directly on a 1-ton jack to exceed it's structural capacity. Check it out on Project Farm's youtube channel. No where near as enjoyable to watch as this review ... but ... he does do tests-to-failure.

How effective is the rapid pump action if you only give it a short stroke from the horizontal position of the handle? With the older hf rapid pump jacki have, it wouldn't do much that way compared to my Craftsman, which was significantly faster. I'm usually laying on the ground monitoring the position of the saddle as I'm initially getting it set up, so being able to use the short horizontal strokes is a significant advantage in overall ease of use. If they come up with a model that can perform similarly it'd be worth the extra cost.

@@RustyZipper I couldn't tell you, it's similar to the Pittsburgh. I don't recall the Pittsburgh having a 2 ton capacity, I think it was one and a half. I'm really happy with the two ton Daytona that I bought. I just got an ad yesterday in my email and the 3 ton is $40 off. It's now $209, same price as I paid for my 2ton. This one's the Pittsburgh, not Daytona, but I really don't know if there's a difference. It's aluminum, and it says racing jack...... So do what you got to do. If it's a deciding factor, check to see how thick the frame is, mine is 5/16 in thick aluminum. That 3-ton Jack may or may not be more substantial. The money is one issue the weight and size might be another. I'm done with $39 crappy steel jacks.

I bought this jack last month and used it for the first time today, to jack up the rear end of my 3200lb car. Just about the time I got the car fully raised, I heard a pop and then noticed the jack descending with hydraulic fluid pooling beneath the jack fluid; the seals had apparently blown. Before this time I had tested the jack with no load and it seemed to work fine, except that it was taking about 5½ pumps to reach full height instead of the advertised 3½. I attributed this to air in the system and so did the oil top off, it was a little low, and the air bleeding, there were some bubbles. After that the jack worked fine, as advertised, and I then lubricated the joints and pivot points with white lithium grease as per the instructions. I'm going to take the jack back to HF for an exchange, as I really like the jack and am hoping this one was just a fluke. I know that this jack is made in China🫤
@Mach1414 ай бұрын
Lol. You keep talking about bouncing your car off the ground if the jack releases to quickly. Its really not a problem. Im using a 27 year old, 2.5 Ton Craftsman floor jack that has had zero maintenance and fairly heavy use. I use thick blocks of wood to increase its lift height. It doesnt release slowly at all, no matter how gentle you are. Theres really no point in trying to stop it (ive tried), you have to be really quick and the closing motion is no smoother than the opening! I just let that baby fall fast, and if your landing on mounted wheels and tires, its not an issue...vehicles have shocks and springs built in to handle these types of things. Now dropping a vehicle a couple inches down onto jack stands is quite a bit more sketchy, but if you take care to position stands just right and your on a solid surface, totally doable. Anyway, thats why Im here, looking at a jack upgrade...have my eye on the 3 ton Daytona low profile and extended length, will wait for a sale. Nice review, if not mostly predictable.

Already announced the biggest mistake as they are Aluminum floor jacks products both sold by Harbor Freight. The all steel Daytona floor jacks are slightly better than the Pittsburg floor jacks. The steel floor jacks perform well but not great and often have cylinder issues which 50 percent of the time can be easily fixed via watching the KZbin video. The Aluminum Floor Jacks are crap but much lighter in weight which is the only positive thing about the Aluminum Floor Jacks. Oh! Most products sold at HF are made in China and are of low quality. The Daytona/Pittsburgh 1.5 Ton Aluminum may raise a Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit, or Chevy Spark to change a tire.
