@Patrick Kelly true, but even if you don't have a clue what you are doing it shouldn't be that hard to understand that you don't stand on the brakes when you are getting winched.

You should only be doing what you are actually capable of doing. It's not rocket science, know your ability. Sometimes people get over confident due to the vehicle they can buy. You see it all the time in the Super car world! Idiot spends a fortune on a fast car without taking actual driven courses to make himself a better driver and they wreck. Until you are more knowledgeable about off roading, stick to smaller trails without snow and mud. Build yourself up to levels of capability.

I'll subscribe for that . that was fun...Ive had 2 4runners an 84'& 85 and now have a supercharged full on 4x4 03 Tacoma.... I helped winch a couple about 2 weeks ago that were stuck in a snowdrift and had been digging out for over an hour right next to a busy road. The guy asked me in these words "why would you stop and help us?".. I told him it was good Karma and I hadn't gotten to use my winch in awhile. then I got to teach the guy how to carry the right momentum through the snow drift to not jump or high center again.

Honestly, I think you could have pulled your Toyota up and over that hill just in neutral. I have the Badlands 12,000 lb winch and just last week, I used it to pull a stump in my yard. It's installed on my Jeep and I ended up having to also strap my Jeep to my truck and it was pulling both across my driveway a little bit. You can check out the vid on my page. I ended up locking my truck into 1st gear with the parking brake on while the engine was off of course, and I also locked the transfer case on the Jeep into 4 wheel low with the parking brake on and engine off with all 4 tires chocked to get the stump out. And yes, I did dig around the stump and cut as much of the root system as I could with a saws-all. Oh and the little metal wheel chocks from harbor freight definitely are not heavy duty enough for this application. I destroyed them. lol.

The wrangler driver just shows how important it is to do research before you do something like go offroading on your own, especially with how great KZbin is. I've still very new, but everytime I've gone offroading I've ended up helping way more experienced drivers. Cause I learn from what I see here and research what capabilities and recovery gear I need to have before trying something new. I feel like this is what most people mean when they call him an idiot.

I once bought a 2500 lb Warn winch for my ATV, and it broke the 3rd time I used it. In the head of the winch, they had 3 small metal gears that road inside one large plastic gear and the plastic teeth just ripped out like anyone should have thought they would while designing the winch. So I went to Harbor Freight and bought their $79 2500 winch, and it worked great. I never had an issue with it, and I even used it to pull an F-150with 2 flat tires up onto a trailer. It pulled it right up there without a problem. I've heard their $40 winches are not any good, but really, what do you expect for $40? lol.

Lots of berating comments about the 'newbie' in the jeep but only one helpful comment (no I didn't read every entry but at least 75 of them). Not everyone was born 'all knowing' like the "real" Jeeper's have (or the $1000's of add on upgrades). Some need to learn the old fashion way. Dirt Complex crew you are to be commened on your willingness to help a newbie out, twice no less. And for being smart enough to turn around to tackle it another day. Only negative thing I have to say is the music selection that hurts this old man's ears. Keep them coming.

Thanks! I know, I get a lot of comments about the music. Tons of people including me, learned the old fashion way... the only difference is there wasn't a camera in everyone's pocket. The internet gives easy access to all the tips and tricks, but that fools people into believing they're "experts." If you've never actually experienced the situation, then you're missing out on the wisdom that comes from it.

@@DirtComplex You use what ever music you want, I have a mute button and I know how to use it. :D Hopefully the newbies learned they need to do some up-grades like tires and a winch (want to sell your old one?) and get some equipment like that traction board you had (I liked that!). If you still have their number, maybe do a tag along if close enough? I have had 3 4x4s and not 1 have I done what you do. 40+ years of winter road driving in the North East is enough playing for me LOL. Be safe out there.

Nice of you to have helped that guy out. With unexpected weather and possibly not being prepared to stay the night in that Jeep it could have turned out bad for them. Also, even if it's freezing cold, crack the windows slightly open if you'll sleep in your vehicle. Carbon Dioxide can build up in a vehicle within hours and can kill. So be prepared. Other things to do if stuck in snow or sand are your floor mats or remove air from your tires. Be safe out there.

Dirt Complex -you have ATRAC, effectively it’s an LSD at each axle. It’s very capable and easier on the driveline than a locker. Yota LandCruisers, FJ’s and Runners are easily as capable as most Jeeps. I’ve owned an 85 & 03 4Runner and a 95 YJ (4.0L & 5spd). Jeeps are a blast top down, on the dunes and off road..especially top down...but the ride beats the hell outa you, the death wobble sucks and mine broke all the time. I love working on trucks but not in the Mojave. I like knowing my runner’s getting me home from the middle of the desert, that it’s got all the modern safety nannies on road, that I don’t need to see the chiropractor after a trip and I can sleep inside it comfortably when it’s blistering hot or freezing cold and wet.

I guess I'll buy one, but I'll have to put a Warn winch cover on it, LOL.

Love the vids man! Keep up the good work! Just picked up 04 4runner v8 4x4 same color as yours. I bought for work truck. I also have 2012 tundra that’s all done up just to pretty to work out of. Lol! But I have a lot of plans for the 4runner.

At 3:30 the driver has his wheels turned the wrong way. You are dragging his rear to the left. His wheels need to be turned right. This way the front moves away from the hole. If you watch Matt's Off Road Recovery you would know this little trick. :D Other driver at 9:22: "How did this idiot get in there?" LOL

Nice vid!! kudos for helping the Jeep out.. I haven’t come to terms to add a winch to my new F150 yet. Especially after the miscommunication that happen during the purchase Which I ended up with the 2.7L vs 3.5 L eco boost.

Great vid! Still waitin on that taco bumper install. From looking at the video looks as if you got the 5pc design and didnt weld it together?
@DirtComplex
@DirtComplex 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I got the 5 piece design that bolts together. Welding it would really be just for looks. Hopefully I get the video up soon.

@@DirtComplex I think it looks pretty good as is. If you don't plan to heavily abuse it by driving it into objects, I don't see a need to weld it together. Also makes installing the bumper less of a headache and a 1 man job.. LoL.

I’d love to see the video too...I’ve got an 03 Sport V6, been looking at Lil’ b hybrid bumper but this is much cheaper. How much does it weight? Hope it’s around 100 lbs, looks like I’ve found my inexpensive but reliable winch too! Thanks so much for your work. I look forward to seeing how you fitted this Taco bumper to your Runner!
