I took regular water that is filtered at the sink. Then I filtered that water a second time thru a Brita container. Then into the steamer. No problems. p.s. Got it with a 20% coupon discount.

Good idea to filter the water.

That one looks nicer than one I picked up at a yard sale. I don't remember the one I have having any lights on the side of it. I think the one I got may be missing some attachments too? But I kind of remember the one I got being extremely cheap. Used though. Using distilled water sounds like a good idea. I just threw some well water into mine to try it out. I want to try using mine to steam off some wallpaper. Just haven't gotten around to actually doing that with it yet though.

I burned up a cheaper one years ago using well water in it to steam of wallpaper. Before it died it worked great on the 'papery' style wallpaper. There was a section of vinyl type wallpaper that it wouldn't phase though.

@@ballinator I guess it's good I didn't start then. I'll definitely pick some distilled water up before I do.

6:36 did you try Sugar Soap/caustic?
@ballinator
@ballinator 21 күн бұрын
@john_barnett Is "Sugar Soap" the same as TSP? TSP worked great for cleaning and brightening up the floor, but it didn't faze the residue. I also tried acetone in a small area, but I was afraid it was dissolving the linoleum, so I didn't take that any further.

@@ballinator TSP is pretty close! Acetone isn't bad if you just wipe it on and off quickly, you just don't want to leave it on there.

The attachments seem pretty useless overall...For myself maybe it could be useful somewhere like cleaning grease in tight spaces cracks and such.I think an engine bay might make a good use of the product,otherwise maybe steaming out the wrinkles in some fabric.I suppose I would make good use of it somewhere..

Yeah, I already ruined one of the brushes scrubbing some more of that residue off my floor yesterday... I'll have to try it out on an engine bay at some point.

Seems like a toy for people who like to play with steam. I see many "car detailers" using things like this to varying degrees of success. This one seems not to do anything good enough to pique my interest. Probably, to be more effective, it needs to be more dangerous. I used to see a lot of "steam gennnies" when I was a kid, 100 years ago. They're not around anymore for good reason.

Yeah, there's larger 'professional' grade ones out there. I suspect this one is a rebranded garment steamer. There's tons of similar ones on Amazon from random brands.

I use the larger one harbor freight makes. The steam is wet, but it will still burn the shidt out of you. Purge it before use and it's definitely serviceable for rug work and will definitely damage plastics and vinyl immediately if you use it wrong. I'm probably buying this one soon for really small tasks or spot cleaning. 10/10 would destructively learn how to use an excessively wet steamer for my business and damage my 90s trucks learning again. My favorite and almost exclusively used nozzle is the nylon brush nozzle. On things that aren't carpets you never want to be remotely close enough to touch the brushes to the surface anyways. Hotter, drier steamers work better but I'm totally fine with using mine for now. OH ALSO, for cleaning carpets, dab the surface with a microfiber cloth after heating, or ideally wrap the bristle brush with a microfiber or a towel and rub it in to the surface. It works by soil transfer like that.
