Harbor Freight Pittsburgh black manual tire changer mounting low profile tire using duck head.

I've done about 30 tires on the Harbor Freight Pittsburgh manual tire changer with my home-made duck head. From 33" truck tires to trailer tires to low profile tires, it doesn't take long for this equipment to pay for itself in money and time saved at the tire shop. Typical tire take me about 15-20 minutes. This tires bead was easier than usual as the tire was only on the wheel for about a week.

Thank you for your comment. Back in the day when cars still had bumpers, I used a bumper jack to break the bead and tire irons to remove the tire. Whatever gets the job done.

@ yes I’ve set them close to the front tire and drove up on them to break the bead, don’t pay attention to any of the negative comments, thank you for taking the time to teach other people how to do things, I often watch to see if somebody has got some little technique that I haven’t seen, hope you have a happy new year

Thank you! If I did more tires, I would buy a Mayflower tire machine. They are reliable and priced right. With the mods, the Pittsburgh gets the job done.

Thank you for your comment! The vertical tube is 2" electrical conduit with a 2 " receiver welded to it that slides through a piece of hitch tubing. The red duck head is bolted to 1/8 " steel plate that is weld to an old piece of floor jack handle. it slides into a short piece of roll bar tubing that's welded to the hitch tubing. I also replaced the bead breaker tube with the same roll bar tubing.

Put your leverage bar inside the end of the square tube.

It's not made to be used that way. It'll causethearm the duck head is on to flex

Have you done a 10 ply trailer tire 15in or 16 in or a 14 ply

@panama7223 I've done 15" 10 ply on my trailer and the 20" tires on my Ram 2500 are also 10 ply. I did some 16" trailer tires for a friend, but I'm not sure what ply they were.

Thanks for your comment! They added a rubber protector where the wheel rests for bead breaking as well as a rubber pad to go under the wheel hold down spacer. The hold down spacer was also redesigned to be flat. The old style is a + shape welded to a round tube. The pin to keep the wheel from spinning is now a drop in on mine. I hope this makes sense.

Thanks for your comment. I used the machine to break the bead on the 17 inch tire in this video, the 33" tires on 20" wheels on my Ram 2500 and over 30 other tires. I did have to reenforce the bead breaker. The secret is using soapy water on the bead. Do you own one of these tire changers?

The duckbill is nylon . It has not damaged any rim that I've used it on

On rims you are really concerned about place a micro-fiber cloth on the rim under the tool. Local tire stores here are charging $130.00 to mount 4 tires. Are they going to be more careful not to scratch your wheels than you would be?

Don't bother with balancing using bubble balancing and weights, use balance beads all the time. Perfect dynamic balancing for the life of the tire. Trust me, try it once, you'll never ever go back (and you can re-use the beads). Just make sure you put the right amount in.

Here's some of my reasons. The cost here to mount 4 tires is $130. I've saved over $1K in mounting alone doing about 36 tires now. Tires are MUCH cheaper on Amazon with free delivery. It's a PIA taking my trailers to the tire shop. It's actually much faster when you consider the drive to the tire shop and the wait. The satisfaction of doing a job myself, on my schedule, instead of being dependent on others. If I did more tires, I would buy a Mayflower tire machine and balancer.
