It would be so cool if KZbin will allow people to post pictures that are related to the subject or the topic. I’m very happy with the compressor I bought from Lowe’s. It cost me just under $600 and now you can touch 1/2 the size for $600. My air compressor is in my garage. Actually it’s in my laundry room. I’ve done a few modifications to it and I enjoy it very much. I always try to keep my tools out of the weather. I put the hour meter on it so I can track the number of hours that I’ve used it. It gives me a good idea when I should change the oil in the compressor. The compressor is a two stage, one big piston, and one small piston I have an electric valve on the bottom of the tank. If I push the button, it blows out any condensation that’s in the tank outside of the garage. I only have to push it for a couple of seconds and everything gets discharged outside. For anybody that wants their tools the last for a long period of time. Keep them out of the weather.

My dad left his air compressor out in the weather for 20+ years and it never seemed to bother it.

The problem with this one was completely user error. I should have been draining the tank on the compressor and not leaving pressure in it when not in use and the oil change intervals should have been more frequent. Completely my fault.

❤ I keep mine in the garage and noise did it makes which is not that bad does not bother me. I just don’t want it to get filthy, dirty and exposed to the heat in Arizona. I did some modifications to it after I bought it from Lowe’s. My air pressure gauge is not one of those super small ones it’s 6 inches from side to side and it goes all the way up to 200 psi. I really like the air compressor. I did put a digital hourmeter on it so it’s counted the hours that it’s ran so far all the way up to 5.1 hours. I really enjoy it. ❤

Thanks for the good video. I recently got rid of a 2hp Campbell Hausfield compressor I bought on sale at Sears ~50 years ago. for $230. It was a fantastic compressor - the pump ran at 733 rpm. It was not irritating to listen to at all. The tank rusted a lot over the years and eventually become unsafe. The compressor started making rod knocking noises, so I replaced it with a 3.7hp 60 gallon DeWalt that is way louder than I expected it to be. Over 100 DBA at three feet. I'll be replacing the pump with one from HF. Hopefully it will be tolerable to have in the shop. Where I live, having the compressor outside is not an option.

Thanks Fitch! We recently moved the shop and didn't want to move the 80 gal compressor from the old shop. We ended up with a new (to us) 30 gallon CH compressor that is much more mobile. Quiet too. Couldn't be happier.

Right thinking on switching fittings from the old compressor pump. I have an 80 gal Husky with a bad 2 stage pump. I've been debating buying the HF twin cylinder one you have. A new CH pump is over $700 plus shipping. May have to look into this and settle on that single stage .Good info!

When we looked at replacing the pump with this vs other options, it quickly became a no brainer. Even if it only last a few years, it will be well worth it.

Never mind the breaker. Put some 3-Way / 4-way switches(that light up when the circuit is on) in different locations so you can turn that on and off without going to the breaker. Like the garage main door and side door or by the work bench. Maybe even on the compressor so you don't have to walk so far when you're working on it. I'm sure that would be easy for you.

I started in the electrical trade 40 years ago. One thing I learned early was, always shut the power off at the breaker when servicing anything. If I'm out on a job, I lock out and tag the breaker. Accidents happen way to easy. We have since moved out of that house (shop) and I've downsized when it come to a compressor. I should have a video out soon with details on the new compressor.

It seems to me that you’ve got a nice garage. You have a lift in there that’s good that’s what I used to have at one time I had a 6 1/2 car garage with a lift and a 2 ton overhead chain hoist I was you I put the air compressor in the garage. It will last much longer.

Just an observation, it looks like the new compressor pulley requires two belts. May need to change the motor pulley and also is the new pulley the same size? They must match up for the right rpm of the motor.

I had that same CH pump, the connecting rods ate shit after a few years. CH sent me two sets of connecting rods. They sent me two boxes thinking two cylinders i guess. Well each box contained a set of two. I still have a set

I replaced the pump on my 5hp compressor with that same pump from Harbor Freight. I used the recommended pulley size for the motor to drive the pump and it pumps a lot faster than the old tired pump. However, now it tends to overheat the motor with heavy use (air sanders) which it didn't do before. It makes me wonder if the pump requires more than the advertised 5hp. I'm only pumping to 120psi. I'm curious if anyone else has noticed that a 5hp motor is not beefy enough to run the HF pump without overheating.

They underrate motors. If youbrun the 3.7 hp pump on a 5 hp rated motor itll run with out the overheating.

Beware of those small cheap gauges. The pump vibration damages them over time. I have a paint sprayer that looks like a balloon because my gauge indicated way low.

I have had mine over a year. Noticed that it slow pumping up. Removed one head and found that one Reed was broken. Called harbor freight and was told that parts for this compressor were no longer available. And these pumps were on close out. Had to make my own Reed will not buy anything from 🎉H R any more. They are selling this pump that you will not be able to get parts for !

Placing air compressor outdoors is bad, because of excessive moisture. Plus maintenance is everything. Change oil often..

We're in California, so not a lot of weather. Many folks don't want a noisy compressor inside the shop. As for maintenance, I believe I covered that in the video. I should have done better changing the oil.
