I talked to a blacksmith about this bender. He said a real easy and VERY cheap way to make square dies for this bender is simply obtain steel doweling of the correct minimum diameter, drill the shaft hole on the lathe and then cutout the recesses for the bearings. To make this into a square die of almost any size just attach collars at the desired width. the limit,of course, being the inside clearance of the machine.

You could also machine multiple half round grooves for smaller rod. I like how you are thinking!

Thanks! I thought they stopped selling these and make a set for flat bar by using pipe sleeves. Our local store didn't know what I was talking about until I was able to give them the part number. :)

Did you ever think about putting a speed controlled motor on that thing I was thinking of getting one and that's what I want to do.

We welded a nut to ours and use a handheld motorized pipe threader to power it lol

What is the widest you could go? Is it possible to machine a set of rollers that could bend 3.5 inch flat stock? Not very thick, maybe 3/16 or so.

All roller benders have that kink in it ,You roll it until the radius you want than cut the kinks out ...Great job

Arcturus Welding & Fabrication if you are rolling a ring, tack the ends together while still in the roller and roll the flat out
@fishhuntadventure Жыл бұрын
@@southernshop8424 Yup. Or plan ahead and under-roll slightly (deeper dies for more wall support helps, too) and then just roll the ends last and the ‘dent’ opposite the stretched side magically disappears.

I did the same exact thing, also bought a second roller and machined the redundant round dies to sizes I did not have.

I tried a couple of machine shops to see how much they would charge to lathe the 1/2" into 1 or 2". They wanted $200.00 per set so it would have cost me $250.00 per set. Swag sells them in sets for $199.00. I guess it all about who you know.
