@@garysmith3666 thanks for watching some of my videos, its much appreciated. UK LRF videos are a bit thin on the ground so I'm always pleased when i manage to find some more content, will keep an eye out for more of your videos, tight lines 🙂

I loved your video. I thought Scorpion fish had a sting from their dorsal fin which had to be avoided at all costs. Am I wrong?

Pleased you enjoyed the video Caroline, thanks for watching. Scorpion fish are quite harmless, although they look quite menacing handled gently they don’t really pose any problems and will normally stay quite still though they do have this unique thing of being able to vibrate through there body. You maybe thinking of a Weever fish which are venomous, they also have a spiny dorsal fin and spines on there gill plates and I believe they are the only poisonous species of fish in uk waters.

Well done Gary enjoyed that, what make hooks do you use and are they barbless or not.
@garysmith3666
@garysmith3666 2 жыл бұрын
Hi David, glad you enjoyed the video the hook I am using in this video is a Kamasan specimen eyed barbless it’s a good choice if there is a chance you may hook something a little larger having that bit of extra strength. I also use Kamasan specialist wide gape, these have a slightly upturned eye just like a typical dropshot hook, a little bit finer in the wire than the specimen but still a nice strong hook. If I can not get barbless I’m happy pinching a barbed hook down with fine nose pliers. Little pollock especially have a habit of swallowing the hook so barbless is better all round in my view.

You sound like a Suffolk lad. I’m from Norwich but lived in Ipswich for 20 years now. It’s tough we have to travel so far for good lrf.

I’m a Norfolk lad so you are not far wrong, my home town is King’s Lynn but now living in Northern Ireland. I have really only been fishing lrf since moving here. I’m quite lucky really as I have some good coastal fishing less than twenty miles from my home.

@@garysmith3666 wow excellent. LRF is thin on the ground here. Lowestoft pier is ok for wrasse but we travel to Weymouth and Devon. You had some good sized scorpions.
@garysmith3666
@garysmith3666 2 жыл бұрын
@@MattF12765 I love catching wrasse but have to admit it is nice to have some variety. That is some travelling you are doing but lovely parts of the country, bet it gets busy in the summer though, I’m guessing you don’t do that in a day?

@@garysmith3666 yes it has to be a long weekend or holiday. We are looking to relocate to Wales and I know that offers some decent LRF but we are fly anglers so it’ll be heaven. We love mid Wales.

In this video I was using fox jig silk in 8lb bs but this is long out of production now. I am currently using major craft dangan light game, ( the pink stuff) this braid is available in 0.3pe (6lb) or 0.4pe (8lb) I use both, both are very fine four strand braid but the 6lb stuff is generally excepted as the go to for lrf. Hope this helps, regards Gary.

What knot you using for the loop ?
@garysmith3666
@garysmith3666 2 жыл бұрын
Hi I use a dropper loop knot, there are quite a few videos on here showing how to tie it, just remember to add the hook when forming the loop before you start tying the knot, hope this helps. Regards Gary.

@@garysmith3666 just the actual dirt on it and in the water. Loads of heavy oil around edges. Strangford is way more relaxing and has nicer selection of fish especially in the evenings ;)

@@bastar yes I agree with you it can be a bit off putting, I guess that’s the downside of a busy harbour. I have walked round Portavogie and Kilkeel harbours and they are the same what I can remember. Have also fished Strangford myself and agree dusk into dark is best.

Nice to actually see someone fishing in county down for a change. I'm from Ballywalter and fish up and down the east coast. Some amazing spots that no-one ever seems to bother with. I do agree that some of the busier harbours a bit minging though. Tight lines sir.
