Liam-remember its not the score, its the opportunity to experience this! U now understand HOW SPECTACULAR the PGA touring pros are! Even those not making the cut weekly play a game so much different than us. I had similar experience playing Congressional CC (outside of DC) just before the US Open the year Ernie Els beat Tom Lehman. It was UNBELIEVABLY hard! The member we played with had the low score of like 95. At the time I was playing off 8 or 9 and shot 108-that is the last round over 100 in 20+ years. Relish the opportunity and great shots U hit-that sandie on 17 is one U will never forget, especially when U watch the TV coverage this week! Keep it up-proud to be a Golf Mate!!

Bunker rock hard... Tour pros are notorious for favoring bunkers with only an inch or two of sand, so I think maintenance was already starting to set up the bunkers for the way the pros like them. Same thing was happening to me, with the ball flying farther out of the bunker than I was expecting, and rolling off the other side of the green. You forgot to mention that it was probably the hottest day of the entire week. Felt roastingly hot compared to the other days. Watching you play the rounds we played together may not have helped you, but it actually helped me. Noticing you hit that soft draw with Ronseal, started thinking that perhaps my tempo was too quick, which was the reason I couldn't draw the ball. When I was warming up for my next lesson, I altered the tempo between fast and slow, and found I could draw the ball, the slower I swung the club. I mentioned it to my instructor and we practiced it, and at the end of the lesson, I hit 5 fades on command, followed by 5 draws (OK, a couple of hooks in there).
@joeperez35205 жыл бұрын
A lot different on the course than on the range, Liam. Tougher to slow down that tempo and start the ball to the right when there’s water out there. 🐊 More range before this mornings round, Golfmate!
@gshamer5 жыл бұрын
Does that mean tour pros look like better bunker players because of less sand?
@joeperez35205 жыл бұрын
@@gshamer It wouldn't surprise me at all. I know the tour pros scream about unfair conditions when there is "too much" sand in the bunkers. The more sand, the greater the variety of depth your club can travel/dig to when trying to glide through the sand. The less sand there is in the bunker, the more you can "bottom out" the club while not worrying about the club digging too deep. As long as there is enough depth to the sand that you can send the ball out on a cushion of it, the less sand, the better. As far as the bunkers that *we* play in, the maintenance crew is not making sure the playing conditions are perfect every day, and at some places I could swear that they dump 6 months worth of sand into the bunker when they work on it, so they don't have to worry about it for a while and can concentrate on other matters.

@@joeperez3520 Do you know if Liam will be posting any of your rounds together?
@joeperez35205 жыл бұрын
@@gshamer Liam has posted a video from the *THIRD* round that the group played, harbor Town Golf Links. I did not play with him that day. He played a match from the *BACK* tees with James Robinson. Have you seen it? kzbin.info/www/bejne/sISnlnmQaLyWgsU I played with Liam the first day, at Sea Pines' Atlantic Dunes. I don't remember if he recorded extensive video, and may only have snippets, not enough for a "course" vlog, but enough footage to include in a Sunday Show. I played with James the second day, at Hilton Head National, which oddly, is NOT on Hilton Head Island. James recorded a lot of video of that round, and it was a treat to see how organized and methodical James is when setting up camera angles and the like, to record. He was probably to busy to notice how much I was observing him! I played with Liam and James the last day, at Sea Pines' Heron Point, and James extensively recorded the round, so look for it at his channel, James Robinson Golf (if you don't already subscribe, you should, as it's always entertaining).

This is why golf is such a great game, you never know what you will shoot, if you did it would be boring and pointless. I'm sure everyone watching can identify with this sort of round when you just can't get it totally back on track (playing a course for the first time is quite often tricky, and a championship level course even more so). But you had a good day and the course was amazing, so there's always positives. Well done for posting this Liam.

Hey, Harbor Town Golf links is a very tough course. I remember the first time I play Pinehurst #2, had a par on 1. A birdie on 2. Then a par on 3. Went to the 4th hole and made a birdie. 2 under par after 4 holes. Then came # 5. We were playing from the members tees. The caddy Told us this was the hardest hole on the course. 447 yards Par 4 hole. When I walked off the green I was 2 over par. Very humbling. I finished the round, at 4 over par. The thing I remember most about that day, is walking the fairways with my Friends at Pinehurst # 2. When I watch you and Josh with your friends. I think about that day, 25 years ago.

Watched the entire thing Liam, good fun! HarborTown looks beautiful but scary. Something I noticed, when you shanked your weight moved onto your left toe in the downswing which moves the hosel into the ball- keep the weight on your heel and that should help the hosel stay inside the ball and not on the ball.

I played TPC Tampa Bay a couple of years ago with a group of 16 golfers, obviously this is one of the TPC group of courses Sawgrass etc. which are tour standard, I played with a 2, 4 and 5 handicap golfers in my group and no one score more than 28 stableford points!!! it was so feckin difficult to keep the ball on the green as they only had about a 12ft square around the hole that was flat and if you missed that area the ball just rolled off the green!!. never beat yourself up.. sometimes the course just wins and you can't do anything about it!!?? the next day we played at Orange County National - Panther Lake and I scored 35pts and the world was a much better place.. Golf is a bummer sometimes but I love the laugh no matter how I play, banter is part of the golf mates way. really enjoy watching your videos, the rounds of golf you play are very similar to every round I play with my mates, a bit of ribbing, hoping that i win the game, being gutted that I've lost again!! to someone off 26 has just scored 44pts and then have a pint and a laugh after. Keep up the good work mate and enjoy.

Just came across this one... been tracking back through your channel vlogs for a while. You were jet lagged (or beer lagged) :) It happens and I admire you for posting this... as you say we all have ups and downs. I'm new to golf, well maybe 18 months in and I only tend to play 9 hole public courses but I'd got down to mid 40's on par 36 courses late last year. Took a break over Xmas and came back with a 57 ARGH then 55, then 52. Today I managed 47 so it's going the right way but the bottom line is "it happens" just dig yourself out.
