I'm so happy you enjoyed my recommendation!🎉 Murakami really has some quality translators 👌 you hit it spot on the satisfying yet weird interconnectedness of this world. Also yes watching people eat is called "Mukbang". Popular in Asia and has been working its way west 😂

Oh I know Mukbang I thought that was just like an ASMR or like fascination thing haha, but I guess everything in the world probably has an obscure fetish community somewhere out there lmao. This book was my first Murakami and it has definitely peaked by interest to read more of his works. I really liked the "parallel stories"-aspect of it. Solid review!

I agree, picked up some new insights with your analysis. Murakami to me is part Philip K Dick, Kafka, David Lynch and Carl Jung. Joseph Campbell talks about the hero descending downward through water (or a subterranean sewer) into the subconscious in myth and dreaming. Bang on.

@@MaxReads After Dark is short and like a Twilight Zone episode. But Kafka and Wind-Up Bird are the stars of the show for Murakami. Not too long but dreamlike/nightmare scenarios and the most entertaining I think. 1Q84 is also a great slow burn novel but so long, so save until later. Very short wierd novella is Secret Library...kind of Stephen King-like. All his books are at least a 4/5 stars for me, but lots of 5s
