My dell inspiron n5010 laptop some times make four consecutive high speed "knocks" "tuk-tuk-tuk-tuk" without gap while starting the system. I assume the sound don't have the characteristic of click sound that of from hdd. The sound seems to be coming from both the stereo speakers. I checked by ear....I felt the sound from both speakers same time. But most of time system after that sound, system boots up and works. But now system shows "disc error occurred "and tells to restart . But after restarting ,the same "disc error occurred " and telling to restart message appears. When diagnosed, DST failure is reported. Error code 2000-0142 Was that "knock " (not click) sound was from the HDD itself ?- symptom of dying? I was 70% sure that the sound was not from hdd ,by hearing the nature of sound.(most probably like the sound made by speakers ) That's why I didn't make any backup. Can I recover data or/and repair the hdd if it is defective? Hdd board repair cheythal external storage aayi engilum upayogikkan pattumo? (Hitachi aanu) System is around 10 years old. Any advise/help please Thanks
