I think you might end up liking Yakuza 3 since unlike the rest of the series there are many moments in the mainstory where there isn't anything urgent happening which gives you plenty of chances to do substories without feeling like a complete jackass. That's how it was for me anyway which it's my favorite in the series. You might also like a specific playable character in Yakuza 5 who doesn't get attacked by random goons every 5 seconds, giving you the chance to actually just vibe in Yakuza's beautiful open districts.

Thing about Majima though is that he only showed up a few times in the original PS2 version. The character has been domesticated and flanderized.

It's extra funny, because Majima's new appearances in Kiwami are so different to his appearances that carried over from the original game. It makes him go from "I'm going to destroy a hospital" to "Kiryu-chan!! Let's play a children's game together!"

You do you, but Kiryu's journey through the series gets progressively weirder and makes running the series well worth the effort. Want to spend a quarter of a game running an orphanage? We got you. Be a totally different guy breaking out of prison? Sure. Spend a little time homeless? Of course. And much of it still happens around the same Kamurocho neighbourhood that you see evolve over time

I hate to bring Serious Cyric into all this, but I've often found Kiwami to be a poorer starting point for the series. The well-known and well-celebrated tonal dissonance that is done so perfectly in 0 is a bit botched and forced in Kiwami. Most of that is centered around the game's insistence that it be both a shot-for-shot retelling of the gritty first game, and also a fanservice-laden goof-around. It's EXCEEDINGLY obvious what elements are new for the remake and which are recreations of the original, because the tone lever is slammed from one side to the other, and not gracefully like others games in the series manage. And that's most obvious with Majima. In the story, Majima is an unhinged wild card more akin to Heath Ledger's Joker. In the side content, Majima is a goofball with some weird obsession more akin to Caesar Romero's Joker.

I'm assuming calling yakuza anime was satire cause it's basically nothing like anime. It's more reminiscent of japanese crime dramas and the voice director deliberately stops voice actors from doing their usual anime voices and makes them do a more realistic take.

I think it's still a valid reference point, but more with the over the top action and the glowing auras characters get when they fight.
