I can sorta understand that, my first HDD was a used 1gb Maxtor that I paid $100 for, lasted a long time but I still used 200mb drives as backups. but at the end of the day I cannot release many drives due to data security reasons, or its just not economical to ship them anywhere.

Ah, so that's what the inside of those ExcelStor drives is like, that didn't stand up too badly considering it likely was a Hitachi drive, I remember the more squared off design the company offered (back when 10Gb was large) used to have "Conner Tech" printed on the underside, which basically meant Seagate built those ones, thus I suspect they were just rebadged drives.

He bought the drive, he can do whatever he wants with it. A 40GB IDE drive is virtually worthless. I have about 20+ drives >80GB just sitting around because they are either too small to usefull, or too slow/inefficient to be worth my time. a 1TB can be bought for $80, That's why i have 9 of them.

@BoomBoxDeluxe12 жыл бұрын
Ah, you'll be surprised! Chances are, the motor wouldn't go that fast at all, or it would just run at the same speed. There may be a possibility that the motor uses the platter similar to a flywheel....it can 'store energy' in it to build up its speed. So, on that note, if I had to take a guess, the motor would either reach its top speed sooner without the platter, due to the platter not being there which ordinarily causes air resistance, or maybe it'll even spin slower than normal. -BBD.

when you first stopped it and it spun up again, it did the krr krr krr krr which was common on the ones with glass.. (60,75,and 120GXP). just means it hit a bad sector. I have had a bunch of these drives do the same thing, die with the scratch of death and then the click of death. It's a wonder why IBM sold their division to HGST... 15% failure rate is not acceptable for a hd company.
