this dose not wipe old larger hard disks, just makes recovery hard but not impossible, data is still recoverable, but it will shatter a laptop disk as its glass. i do remember paranoid wardrivers of the day thermite layering old laptops for burning.

Sorry, I wouldn't call this wiping. Wiping a drive is what you do on the computer to erase/format what's on there (or possibly the magnet idea). This is the next step for some instances, destruction.
