I get out to fish Eagle Lake for the first time before the special season ends on December 31st. It was a fun Christmas Eve!

In my younger days, I never missed an opener. Best fighting, best eating trout there is! Nothing better.

Right on. My big go to for the Monday after opening weekend was lake Crowley. I did that for several consecutive years. I wanted to go to Eagle lake this year but the snow was intense and I simply didn't make it. Hopefully I can bring you some of that action this year if you can't make it out yourself.

I started Fishing there in 1992 as a kid. Thanks for the video!!
@wildernesswithamani1027 Жыл бұрын
Right on. I didn't even bother this year because of the snow on the road. I know there is another way in that I'm not familiar with but the route I like to take just North of Susanville was hopeless with snow. In all fairness, I've only fished there once so my experience is very limited. Like what I've seen so far.

@@wildernesswithamani1027 Best way in is through A1 bringing you into the south end of the lake. The south end has the only functioning boat ramp, but with your setup you can essentially launch anywhere.. This June should be good fishing.!!

I gotta ask, why in the world are you holding your fly rod upside down?
@wildernesswithamani10273 жыл бұрын
No reasonable answer other than on that occasion, that's the way I was holding it. My fly rod consists of components of two different backpacking rods put together because I broke the tip off one but didn't like the handle of the replacement I got! I'm not a textbook fly fisherman. I fish nymphs in alpine lakes and never use a strike indicator. I manage to catch quite a few fish though. That's all I care about.

@wildernesswithamani10272 жыл бұрын
I went in from the direction of the 395 and launched my boat at that closest launch ramp. I am too familiar with the lake for this was the first time I had been there. About a quarter to a half mile out from the ramp on the right side is where I beached my boat and the other action I got was out on the lake beyond that on the same side. The water is fairly deep on that side as far as I went. I didn't go around the entire lake. The other side of the lake, across from the ramp where I launched, had really shallow water but a lot of people were fishing from shore so I'm not sure about that.

I was fishing power bait and inflated crawlers from shore and then I got that rainbow drift fishing a whooley bugger on my fly rod. I go into detail about how I rig up for bait fishing for trout on my 'trout fishing tips' playlist for my channel. My clips "rigging up for reservoir trout" and "my general technique for deep water reservoir trout' both have overlapping information and explain exactly what I'm doing in most of my bait fishing videos.

@wildernesswithamani10278 ай бұрын
I get that all of the time. I don't use a strike indicator in rivers too. That puzzles people as well. Bottom line, I have dozens of videos on my backcountry fishing, reservoir fishing, and river fishing playlists where I catch all of the fish I could possibly want on my fly rod so as far as I'm concerned, I'm using my fly rod just fine!

@@wildernesswithamani1027 Nightcrawlers inflated off the bottom or under a bobber is a go to, also try trolling a orange/gold rapala or an orange trolling fly or woolly bugger. Also try small nymphs under an indicator when the wind picks up. The fish move all over the lake throughout the year and can be hard to locate, but once you do find them, you can have some epic days!! Don't limit your session of sport fishing to imposed keep limits. Think outside the how many can I keep box. It's about sport not meat.
@wildernesswithamani10273 жыл бұрын
Fun day out there.
@wildernesswithamani10273 жыл бұрын
I often mention limits to give people a general idea that there are regulations to consider. There are people who may be new to fishing that probably watch my channel so I mention things like barbless hooks and keep limits to key them in on the fact that regulations are something they probably want to check on before heading out. It's a way of suggesting to them they might want to check regulations without telling them to check regulations.
@Machster103 жыл бұрын
@@wildernesswithamani1027 Don't limit your session to regulations. It's not about meat limits its about sport fishing. Let's all try to think outside of this meat fishing box and start thinking about how to manage sustainable sport fisheries for all people. We will have superior sport fisheries if we start cooperating on managing sustainable catch and release practices.

Me Too! I grew up in NorCal myself and I have had stories of Eagle Lake following me all of my life as I moved around the State! I finally went! Next time, I won't spend 3 hours trying to figure out where to fish. That side where I caught the fish was solid! Thanks for checking out the clip. I hope you can go to Eagle Lake next season! Personally, I like catching large trout on light spinning tackle. I have a few river clips up where I'm battling large trout on my tiny 5', light action rod with a small spinning reel loaded with 6lb test. Great in lakes too. Love to hear that drag strip out! Both options have there special appeals!
