From the very passage itself. When you interpretation it as food and clothes that's an error. But remember on verse 26 the fowl are having food not on basis of work but on feeding from the Father.

Modus Tollens: Premise 1: Matthew 6³¹‐³³ "These things" are carnal things. One gets them by seeking first the kingdom of God. Premise 2: Acts&Romans14¹⁷, Matthew 5⁴⁵, 1Corinthians6¹³. The kingdom of God is not about carnal corruptible things, they shall all perish. God provides rain for food to the evil who have not sought the kingdom of God. Conclusion: "These things" can not therefore be carnal things but spiritual things which the kingdom of God is about.
