The reason you all missed the point was because you’re not watching on TV. When this episode dropped, every “slur” was beeped out except n***a. The thesis was revealed through Goodlove, it references the title in meaning. That n-word f-word sequence hits different when one of them isn’t censored. The medium you’re watching through affected the whole point of this episode.

I think season 4 can be summarized as the what’s the point season. Each episode feels like it’s halfway to saying something and then either makes to many dumb jokes, has a deflated ending, or both. Nothing gets resolved, all the characters act out of character at some point, and worst of all it’s not even funny most of the time. Freedom land is the worst offender of this season by just saying “well you know how wage slavery is bad? Well what if we just compare it to literal chattel slavery! That’s a good idea right!?” Overall this series is great but Aaron leaving the show kills its creative flair and you can feel it.

Much as I don’t like Season 4, I do find it funny how when it’s not critiquing the black community, shits uncomfortable for people. That Chappelle bit Pat referenced is pretty on point. “Why is it I can say the word N-- with impunity but I can't say the word F--?” “Because David, you are not gay.” “Well Renee…I’m not a n--- either.” Feels like the jokes are alright as long as it’s a certain target but not others. I saw some laughs being held back on this couch.
@dwilliams3806 ай бұрын
This season started critiquing society instead of mostly black people, which they failed to realize. But, yes, the amount of times I had to tilt my head while looking at the couch due to them laughing at a joke they didn’t completely understand, just the “black joke” of it during the first 3 seasons. They proved one of the main points of this episode about word policing. They have no problem with n***a, but the other two words were a bridge too far. The funny thing is, this season isn’t bad. It’s not as good as 1-3, but there’s not many shows that ever reached that level of comedy and commentary.

The whole point is that words have been weaponized, including the n-word, which is 'forbidden' but gets used all the time, right or wrong. Gay slurs are still used, and rightly called out, but are still used. Funnily enough, the 'r-word' is the one most taboo now; will this all change in 50 years? Probably. This isn't trying to 'teach a lesson' but make a statement of how things are in a moment of time. That's what it was trying to do except it became a half idea that's never fleshed out. It's really just a lazy rehash of "The S Word" except this time the Freeman's (black people) are Mr. Petto. That the LGBT community is the "the new black", the new marginalized that you'll get trouble for offending. But instead any meaningful conversation on that, it's just what happened to the Freemans in S Word but now they're on the other side. There's a gay Rollo Goodlove... that's it. He supposed to be commentary on how the LGBTQ civil rights movement was inspired by the Black civil rights movement but they do nothing with that. Huey doesn't even have anything smart to say he just slaps Riley on the head and tells him to apologize so they can and the episode. And the worst part is centering on Riley, whose whole thing to never learn anything from what's happening. So nothing was gained, just lost. Why did Aaron and Rodney write this crap? This episode is *so awful* .
