Great testing session. Perhaps not controlled or scientific enough for some, as all forces could not be reproduced exactly the same for both knives. The guy did seem to do his best to be equal and fair. It was entertaining as well as telling for an overall display of how well each knife will perform under the tests and forces/stresses shown. Thanks for taking the time to do the test, film it and share it here for everyone to see. Bravo!

I have owned and used six different Cold Steel knives since 1983 (4 fixed blades, 2 folders)....every one gave excellent service. IMHO, good working man`s knives, especially considering the reasonable price.

Спасибо за видео!) Однозначная победа Спартана. Лучше нож с кривым лезвием, чем сломанный нож. Эхх... А я за Поль Форс болел.)) Нужно им этот Hard use показать, пусть допилят напильником.))) Ножи конечно, очень харизматичные и брутальные.)) Но если быть честным, то позиционирование их, как ножей для специальных армейских подразделений - это просто маркетинговый трюк. Рассчитанный на людей, далеких от военного дела. Что такое складной нож? (фолдер) Это испорченный, гораздо менее надежный и вдобавок увеличенный в весе и цене - фиксед.)) Сугубо гражданская вещь, адаптированная для скрытого ношения в городе. В серьезном походе, или в зоне боевых действий, фолдеры неактуальны. Там нет необходимости, прятать свой нож. Исключение составляют, разве что - швейцарские армейские ножи. Но это уже не оружие, а компактный и многофункциональный походный инструмент.

It's hard to judge the Pohl Force for being reliable for chopping or batoning when it had already had the locking mechanism broken. For all we know it would break when chopping or batoning too. Spartan is the clear winner. Super powerful locking mechanism. Pocket machete.

Wow! Pohl did a lot better than i expected! And to be 440C, that's outstanding! And from the looks of the vid, i believe the only reason Cold Steel's Spartan bent, was because if you watch closely he hit the spartan a little on the side, giving it uneven force. BUT that doesn't excuse the fact it still bent. Anyway, like he said, and i believe this true. The Cold Steel Spartan is an total beast!! Thanks for the awesome vid! ;)

440C is a pretty decent steel. AUS8 from Cold Steel cannot be compared to that. Pohl has a good blade on a shit lock, Spartan has a lame blade on one of the strongest lock on the market.

I have recently procured a Pohl Force Alpha 2 in D2 thanks to your video and it seems rock solid. Ok. I did test the lock on my own hand (ouch!), but was rock solid and good enough for me. I think it should be mentioned in this video that you should not use knives this way, unless you want to destroy them. Blade play is bound to happen sooner than later, and once the knife is chipped and half-ruined, the operator may wish to change it. So in my mind a reasonable use with great haptics and optics is better than a single strong lock without the design I like. In this sense, Pohl Force wins for me! Of course interesting to see the limitations.

Excellent test, but Spartan is not bent because of hollow ground geometry, but because you hit it with the hammer on the side (time 22:36). Other than that all the other damage on the Spartan is easily fixable with sharpening. Exellent test once again!

Sometimes a bit softer steel is the way to go for hard use in my opinion If you use a knife in a less than forgiving manner by design or out of an immediate need it will need to be re sharpened..Now in less than Ideal conditions I would rather have a steel like AUS8 or 420 or 1095 because with minimal equipment and effort I can get an edge back on the knife

Idk where this guy went. He was the most methodical hard use tester I’ve ever seen. Whether you think it’s reasonable or excessive, he would do the same thing, in the same order, every time, and every time, a knife would fail along the way. The Benchmade adamas is the only one I saw make it to the end (and I bought one because of it). I have a lot of cold steels, his test invariably break the blades , but these old vids predate CS using better steel.

Я тоже владелец ножей альфа два, со сталями д2 и 440с, 11 и 13 года соответственно. Могу сделать предположение, что данный нож бракован, так как мои ножи не сложились ни об доску, ни после подвешивания 150кг груза. Уважаемый Vininul, обратитесь в гарантийный сервис, он в отличии от других ножевых фирм, работает отлично. Лично проверял на предмет замены стеклобоя. Ответ в течении суток, отправка запчастей спустя час после ответа. Удачи

Im fine with the results of the spartan. I bought it as a self defense blade. Im not going to build a house with it. The lock system is amazing, the handle is awesome as well as the blade shape. And aus 8 is just fine for general use and defense.

I wanna thank you for the sacrfice, now i have understand many things: - pohl force alpha 2 is a good knife with a bad bad BAD lock; blade, ergonomic handle, weight, keeping of the edge (edit, forgot to finish) are really good! - Cs is chinese (taiwanese?) production, bad steal (imho), bad ergonomic, heavy but with a GODLY strenght lock. I have to say that i expected more from Pohl force, i'm disappointed. Perhaps the new models (survival Mike outdoor from 1 to 4) are a little bit better! Have you tried them? Perfects subs, ista-locked inscription to your channel! :)

Cold Steel makes a fantastic product. I have their two-handed latin machete, katana machete, and the new double-edged Chaos trenchknife. The trenchknife is AMAZING. A little impractical, but truly a work of art.

I'm buying that Spartan ! A question vininull, i have some problems with sharpening Cold Steel knives (recon 1, lawmen)and it's not a hard steel. I have no problems with tenacious, Rat 1, Sog and even Spyderco VG10 or S30V on the Spyderco sharpmaker. So any suggestions on how you sharpen your CS knives? And wich angle works best?

I usually sharpen my Cold Steels at Edge Pro Apex for around 20 degrees per side. No problems were detected with a sharpening process. The steel itself though is a bit "dry" if could describe it, so it has a bit different behavior than AUS-8 from other brands.

I have the same problem on my Sharpmaker. Cold Steel's AUS8 is weird. It won't be brought back to razorsharpness in some spots of the edge. No idea why because I have no problems with my other knives with much harder steels.

Darksjeik It looks like the initial edge angle is inconsistent and you just not hitting the edge when sharpening and going over those spots.

Schöner Test, ich bin beeindruckt. Das mit dem Alpha two hat mich sehr schockiert. Was meint Herr Pohl dazu das der Back Lock gebrochen ist ? Das war mit Sicherheit kein Einzelfall, ich gehe schon davon aus das dieses bei jedem so ist.. ? Habe mir zufällig gerade eines bestellt und frage mich ob das eine gute Idee/Wahl war ??....

Very interesting test. Thank you! Cold Steel has a super lock, maybe the best actually available. Would be nice if they would use a better steel. What do you think about their VG 1 they used in older models? I have a VG 1 Voyager. I guess they should have continued with that steel.

Spartan получил тяжелое повреждение клинка, но выжил. К тому же кромку повело только на половине клинка. Даже если сточить клинок на 5мм от Spartana особо не убудет ) Если в жизни возникнет ситуация, в которой нож необходимо будет использовать подобным образом, думаю что такие повреждения мало кого взволнуют. Да и благодаря пластинке-вэйву удобнее нажимать на клинок - мелочь, а приятно. При этом Spartan в два раза дешевле Alfa 2. Мое мнение в этом специфичном субъективном тесте спартанец победил

Ты чего-то путаешь чувак, при чем тут забавы. Нож -это инструмент, и я им пользуюсь на охоте и на рыбалке, и мне интересно как поведет себя та или иная модель ножа при силовом использовании. Но рубить дерево обухом я еще не пробовал, так же как и забивать гвозди калькулятором.

Спасибо, Алекс! Этого теста я тоже давненько ожидал. Слышал про проблемы с замками на Пол Форсах, однако писалось, что у них может коромысло бэклока отломаться - там тонкий перешеек будто. Ан нет... Жаль, конечно, кто-то ж платит за них немалые деньги. Насчет Спартана - все ждал, когда по старой колдстиловской традиции отломается кончик. Молодчага, выдержал! Не все потеряно! Хотя хрен редьки не особо слаще - все равно клин повело... То пересушат, то недосушат сталь. На рею термичника ихнего!!!

Что тут сказать?Спартан невероятно крепкий нож. И невероятно красивый, с сильнейшей харизмой. А с БД 1 он стал ещё лучше.Я считаю, что он прошел тест отлично, то, что повело РК, это ерунда, во первых, повело слегка, во вторых он остался рабочим, да и выправить клин не проблема. Не согласен, что сталь слаба. Да и доставалось Спартану явно сильнее, Поля берегли больше. А в целом очень классные видео, спасибо! Жаль, что больше не выходят...

Было бы интересно видео на котором тобой будет произведена классификация ножей , которые ты уже протестировал в хард юзе допустим разделив хотябы на две группы или может даже на три : прошедшие на сто процентов, прошедшие на 50 процентов и не прошедшие совсем! Было бы интересно если бы нарисовался некий рейтинг ножей или как в программе топ гир таблица ножей которые прошли тест! Опять же таки это лишь просьба!

8:21 wow! "Folded - Folded - Folded..." I wasn't expecting that, and it's such a heavy knife. Lesson learned is weight does not equal strength. Just think about how they advertise this knife and the capabilities that are implied, several people even label these 'as strong as a fixed blade' oh Pohl Force, the shame.

I'm pretty sure the problem with the lock on the pohl isn't common, maby happens in 1 of 100 or 1000 (don't even know the brand, but doesn't looks like a cheap knife you'll expect to break). But for me, in a folding knife, the locking mecanism is the most important thing, i prefer to change the knife than cut my index finger to the bone (happened to me once, wasn't very nice) and in locking mecanism, there's nothing like cold steel... Really like your videos, with the tenacious vs rat 1 i decided to go ontario :P

Oh how i love the Cold Steel Tri-Ad-Lock, they may use weak steel, but at the end of the day you still have a functional Knife. A bent Knife is still a Knife, a Knife with a broken lock is not. Oh how i wish you would add Eng-Sub to all your videos, i know i know thats very time comsuming and iam pretty sure most of your audience is speaking Russian so it may be a waste... i still wish you would :-) have a great day !
