What do they do with the sand, gravel and rocks? Do they use the sand and gravel for roads and walks?

They sell it to people who are building houses around the area, thats how he earns his income. A six wheeler truck is about $120 US dollars.

And yet he probably uses very little to build his own dwelling. How much is $5,000 pesos in American dollars?

1 US Dollar is around 52 Pesos. Let's say 50 Pesos to the dollar for easy calculation. 5000 pesos is $100 dollars. Imagine all that hard work to fill a truck to earn $100 to $120 dollars. Yes one of the many reasons I choose to spend time in the Philippines is the hard working real people of the province. I tell many fellow travelers if you want to experience real life get out of the city and head to the province or country.
