Kasuga’s compassion is so inspiring. Eiji did so much wrong to him, ruined his life, lied to him, manipulated him, mocked him, and yet kasuga doesnt even have to think twice before carrying the man through an angry mob to keep him safe. Ichiban is the type of person to go above and beyond for people, making sure they get put on the right path despite what they've done, if the person wants to atone and make amends. I look up to characters like him because it shows that not everyone deserves every bad thing that's coming for them. There are plenty of people in this world in which, despite the horrible things they've done, they can still try to set things right, if they allow themselves to want to set things right. The problem is, a bunch of people in this world refuse to let others make amends and atone, and rather see them get hurt or put to death. Infinite Wealth literally displayed that when ichiban was carrying Eiji to the police station, with all the bottles being thrown at the both of them, injuring them and being beaten, and the comment section is no different from that cutscene since I'm seeing some people in the comments of different videos, wishing for Eiji to be beaten more. It honestly makes me laugh at how people just refuse to let a person change and are sick and twisted enough to wish and want for them to be beaten and dead. That just makes the majority of society no better and no different then Eiji. I wish more people would be like Ichiban, otherwise, the world would be so much better then it is now if we just all came together to help someone who wants to make change and a difference.

Not gonna lie. While watching sequence of Ichi taking Eiji to jail through the mob almost made me really tear up. Also when you read the lyrics of the song playing- “The Invaluable” it really makes the scene all the more heartwarming and a tearjerker.

I don't know, the scene fell a little flat for me. Along the course of the game, not even once does Eiji show any sign of remorse or doubt about his actions as long as his plans are going smoothly, unless I missed anything. He really seems to enjoy having played with Ichiban every step of the way, as well as all the pain he inflicted on Lani and Akane. It is only after he's alone, cornered and out of options that he realizes he screwed up. I'd agree if we'd seen some sign that he regrets what he's caused before this scene, but as it is, I find it quite hard to feel sympathy for him, nor understand why the hell Ichiban forgives him so easily when he put in danger a lot of people he really cares about. About Ichiban, while I agree that his selflessness putting others above himself like here protecting Eiji in the ending is indeed inspiring, the fact that no matter how much they played with him and endanger his loved ones, he is instantly willing to forgive and forget without a moment's hesitation prevents me from appreciating the character as much as I do Kiryu, whose kindness always felt way more grounded and limited to people who really had done well by him.

@Roberdrake74 That's why Ichiban is considered by some characters in the series as a rare find. He chooses not to let hatred get to him, he chooses not to have a grudge against the people that did him dirty like Eiji for example, because he himself knows that hating on Eiji and wishing for his suffering wouldn't change a thing. It'd make him no better then Eiji himself and the rest of the people that did Ichiban dirty. Ichiban sees the best in people and knows that anybody can change if they allow themselves and have a want to change. Just because Eiji hasn't showed signs earlier of wanting to change doesn't mean that he can't be remorseful now. Yeah, he may have started feeling remorseful when he got cornered, but that in no way means that he doesn't feel remorse over all, otherwise he wouldn't have agreed to turn himself in, but he did because of Ichibans influence and seeing the best in people, causing Eiji to feel remorseful for his actions and is willing to take the next step to atone. That's what makes this scene beautiful. To put it in different perspective, some people in this society would say "oh this person only feels sorry because they got caught and consequences are happening to them" which yeah, I'm not denying that there are people out there that only feel remorseful cause they got caught, but that's not always the case. Some people do feel genuine remorse even after getting caught, especially when the consequences that are happening to them allows the individual to think more clearly as to what lead them to this predicament, and why they have chosen the path in life they have chosen, amongst other things down to thinking about the people they have hurt in their life. At the end of the day, we don't truly know whether or not they feel remorse UNLESS the person decides to take action and society see's the action thats being taken. The fact Eiji agreed to turn himself in is all the proof we need as the audience that he wants to change and do better in life. We don't get a lot of people like Ichiban in society who sees the best in people and wants to help those who have fallen in the deep end, no matter how bad the person is. Instead, society chooses to hate, beat, harass, and kill those that they deem unworthy when the people in society themselves are no better and no different, which makes it all hypocritical in my eyes. Plus, it's easier for society to hate on others instead of help, and people sadistically take pleasure in violence against others and give themselves an excuse to be violent against those society is treating as garbage.

He's basically the inverse of Shishido, Shishido fought like hell to Keep the yakuza Alive and Idolizes the Yakuza Dream while Ebina utterly Despises it.

Ebina also embodies some persona and similarity to Nishiki and Mine. He lost his only family member that mattered to him (like Nishiki and his sister, for Ebina his mother), he also worked hard to get to the top to realise his dream (the coop with Sawashiro, like Mine and Daigo) and also conspired with a blonde haired foreigner (Bryce Fairchild, like Black Monday's Andre Richardaon) And of course, his ultimate goal is the mirror opposite to that of Shishido, to hunt down any Yakuza no matter what it takes. (Which funnily enough, was Kiryu's girlfriend Kaoru main objective during Yakuza 2)

The way Kiryu pleaded with Ebina just broke me. It’s amazing how Ebina’s silence did a complete 180 on my opinion on him. Iwami was a scumbag piece of garbage that I took great pride in seeing Kiryu punch him in the face. I thought Ebina was a slimy weasel that was going to get what he deserved, but seeing him lay there in silence made me feel like Kiryu’s words actually got through to him. Like, he’s definitely capable of redemption. Just another person lost and set on the straight and narrow thanks to Kiryu.

In my opinion, Ebina's definitely up there with the best RGG villains. I mean, his plan is evil, rounding up the ex-yakuza with false hopes and sending them to their doom with no chance at redemption. Like, I completely get his motive. In a way, he's doing the Japenese society a favor by getting rid of twisted criminals, but then again, he isn't even giving them a chance at redemption and doing it only for his personal vengeance. Kinda like Kuwana, I completely get why he became what he became and why he is doing all this.

It was literally explained to them by Ebina himself. Sawashiro was bait. he wanted to fight Ichiban and he knew by keeping Sawashiro alive Ichiban would literally throw his own life away to go save him.

It's never too late to atone for something you've done, that people should always have the right to make amends and rebuild their life from scratch, without being torn apart by a modern society uninterested in any rehabilitation but just want the next target they can chew out for sport Ichiban forgave Tomi, Chitose and Yamai, which in turn allowed them all to face up to their sins and atone for what they did, and changed their own lives for the better. Just like how ex-Yakuzas have a right to live a normal life if they pay their dues and not be discriminated against by the 5 year clause (which is a real thing). The game ties all those themes together so well, a poignant message in an age full of mob culture who cancel people as a blood sport

the fact that kiryu got little screen time in the end def was a cliffhanger. like they're def setting up for the next game. there's so many possibilities/outcomes for kiryu's future. we know kiryu is very persistent and always takes matter into his own hands so i wont be surprised if he beats cancer and keeps kicking ass til he's 90 with nothing holding him back. i really wanna see that. but the most realistic outcome for sure is he lives peacefully for the rest of his life or eventually dies from cancer. whatever happens, i hope he gets the outcome he deserves.

I do believe they're gonna have him recover in some way or another, otherwise they would've just let him die that very dignified death on top of ebina. But Yokoyama said Kiryu won't be an action protagonist anymore, and Kiryu promises to never be associated with Kasuga again, otherwise the daidoji will kill Date. I really don't know, but I didn't like that final cutscene. It was just cruel to show Kiryu like this.

More than likely there weren't any sort of overlap when it came to development of Gaiden and IW, considering how Hanawa was poised up in Gaiden to be a new friend for Kiryu and was confirmed to be Morinaga from Yakuza 5 and then in IW he was just killed off so unceremoniously by a random thug which kinda confirmed that to me. But I don't doubt we'll at least see them again.

See, I'm kinda leaning in the opposite direction. I think it would have been too cheap to have all of their problems go away just because he said he loves her. Saeko says pretty directly that she values the romantic journey leading up to marriage, and while Ichiban made progress at the end here, it makes more sense that there's more for them to work out between each other, especially when it comes to expressing their feelings.

@@unamusedrohan1666 i agree with the principle, but how it played out raises some questions. why did saeko wait for ichiban to say that, when she avoided him completely? did she expect him to ambush her at her workplace or at her home? doubt it. and after knowing and being attracted to ichiban, she should surely like his personality and his silly antics. But she just runs off when seeing a silly shirt. Like cmon now, arent you able to forgive or expect average behavior of a guy you supposedly are in love with? Throughout the game, Saeko running off is not really presented as a character flaw she needa to work out either. It kinda just comes out of the blue and ruins the pace and feeling of the scene. I wish she felt embarrassed or awkward by it, but stayed her ground and actually talked about her feelings and needs like an adult

I know that Ichiban had to learn to be the person he is without her being around and everything but I really wish there would have been something more to their whole arc, especially knowing that Ichiban is a very caring person of others to a fault, but he just seemed too detached.

My guess is that he served his purpose, and that because his name is out in the open, there was no reason to hide it anymore. As for being wheelchair bound, that's just hospital procedure, even if you can walk. Though seeing Kiryu at the end, boney and loss of weight, he definitely has a fight on his hands with cancer, cheering him on!

Yokohama dungeon. I was five levels below him so I spammed nanbas breath debuff to lower his dmg and def and boosted the party’s attacks whenever I could. You can actually clear like almost half his HP with Kiryus heat mode and buffs present. You just gotta get lucky w his wide spread sword attack

The Bucket List sidequests are optional, it's also why at the end of it they don't even show Haruka's face, because they didn't wanna ruin the reveal with the ending. Suppose you do it though (like most would), it's probably the Daidoji who gave him the out. Will we know why? Maybe next game who knows, but for now, seems like it does imply Kiryu is let go by the Daidoji.

The ending of was bit of a letdown : I think its would have been more impactful if its was Chitose instead of Ichiban Talking and taking Eiji to the police station. She find the force to forgive him due to the influence of Ichiban. I know ichi has a big heart but he doesn t have any deep connection to eiji , he is just a dude he met few days ago. We have absolutely no answer about how things ended up with yakuza, bricesuu , Ebina and dadoji And for the fuck sake, kiryu always pass out and somehow surviving its becoming redundant

The main issue with Ichibans story is despite the fact it's a REALLY long story, you don't really have any reason to treat his relationship with Eiji as genuine. It's not like Masato where they had this long history and relations together. Eiji is just some guy who manipulated him. It's nice what Ichiban is doing, giving a second chance, but it's not earned as a story moment. Like maybe they wanted to give it paralells to Masato, as a "This time he did it", but you just didn't have much reason to care about Eiji. I mean, that and by the time it's time to deal with Bryce he's just so detached from the story. The heart of the story is Ebina clearly, and they sent Kiryu for that one.

I'm a little disappointed by the ending. Gaiden set so much that 8 didn't deliver. We were robbed of a big kiryu reunion with his children that we didn't get, hell we didn't even see harutos face for some reason. Kiryus character deserved to have a big scene with his family. I'm happy that he finally gets to rest. I wonder if in yakuza 9 well get to find out what happened between him and daidoji considering we didn't get major plot points addressed. Kiryu should've had a scene with haruto he earned it. And the biggest disappointment is not deliver on Kashiwagis promise on having a proper conversation with kiryu whenever he got his name back. I believe they used a lot of resources and had to rush the ending in the end but honestly I'd sacrifice the ei Chan final scene for a proper closure.

It felt odd, I felt like they were going to hint that Daidoji was in Bryce's pocket too, and build up a bigger villain in the end. But then I suddenly see final chapter. bryce was a huge letdown. By the time you even get to him he's not that huge a threat. Even Ebina just rightfully points out it would've gone under eventually, no matter how much people tried. I felt like they did something good with Chitose, essentially doxxing herself to spread the word...but they put almost no emphasis on that, even though in vtubing that's a pretty big deal. They make it look like she did it just cause she wanted to. Tomi's entire plot is solved in the first few hours of the game. He's just sort of there after that. It feels like they cut an entire subplot out from him. Kiryu plot was okay, but like I said I really didn't feel like he was going to be the person fighting Ebina. What they did with it was very good, but it left things like Eiji and well, Kasuga out to dry. It didn't feel like Kasuga had any emotional connection to the hawaii plot by the end, to the point he teleports back to Japan for the credits. In all of this, I don't feel it was bad, I just agree, it was disappointing. I feel like it could've been so much better. Like better than Y5 but it's no Y0/7

Daidoji seems to give Kiryu his name back from how much of a great work he’s done. And this ending shows us that he finally get to reunite with Haruka, but off-screen and that sucks big time as a longtime fan. Even if they show the reunion scene at the beginning of Y9 it wouldn’t feel the same.
