In regards to your actual video, I struggle with the exact same thing you do. I can never, ever, turn my brain off from work or work related things. I'm lucky that I have a significant other that supports me and doesn't hate me for it. I keep telling myself that it won't always be like this, but I don't think it's true. Motivated people are just on a different frequency.

You described it perfectly. At school we were told exactly what we needed to know for the exam. Then we did practice papers, so we were fairly confident of what kind of grade we could achieve on a particular exam. At med school, there were no practice papers. Nobody told you exactly what to learn. So you went in to the exam not knowing whether you would pass or not.

As someone studying medicine in a foreign country, I can definitely say the hardest part so far has been trying to balance medical school with everything else. I'm originally from Florida, and I moved to Pakistan literally a few days before the beginning of my first year. It was just me. No family. No friends. So, without a shadow of a doubt, for me, it has been trying to balance school with living in a difficult environment and new culture. I often try to explain to people that it's almost like having 50% of your brain power available for school and 50% available for the other stuff. Now, after 4 1/2 years, it's much easier to focus on the important things and do what need to be done... In a way I feel glad that I made the decision to come over cuz I've learned more things about myself at 22 than most other people my age. One thing I can say definitely helped during the journey was meditation, and just thinking about my circumstances. I also study quite a bit of stoicism and tried to keep my faith which have helped tremendously...

Well, I am only in college so I am yet to experience the full path.. and I'm going to be a dentist so the material is obviously pretty different. The most challenging part has been learning how to be a student after having not gone to school for 10 years and coming from being a high school drop out. I have all these challenging math classes that are not required for my dental school process and it REALLY pulls my attention away from the classes my school WILL care about. And he is totally right.. my grades are kind of all over the place right now and I really struggle to maintain my GPA. I think that I really need to study more. I do feel guilty when I am not studying. It is really hard to find the motivation to have to study for all these math classes when I just do not care about math. All I have wanted to learn about is teeth.. it is the ONLY reason I went to college. But I need to not just make it through this gauntlet of shit I don't care about but I have to do well enough that I am competitive to get a spot. To get into med school is like being in a class graded on a curve.. which is actually evil. A curve puts you in competition with your classmates. If you get a 92% and it is the lowest grade you essentially fail the test. There are only so many seats into dental school or medical school and so even if you did REALLY well and have all the prereqs to get in, the lower you are on this curve of students the less likely it is that you will get in... Which is a really hard to swallow pill when it is the entire reason you went to school and everything you have worked for. Then suddenly you are told, "sorry, better find a new career path." The amount of stress and pressure I feel is almost more than I can bear.. which is really what this whole process is about. To weed out the ones who can't cut it or think they are just going to float by college and still get into med school. Which is ultimately my problem.. trying to just float by these classes.. and I will need an excuse one day for all these low marks I get.

Very enlightening, Dr. Webb. Needless to say, going to medical school to become a doctor is not for money chasers; obviously you have to be extremely organized and dedicated to providing the best healthcare to patients - even at your own expense!

Hardest part is what Dr. Webb said, second hardest is dealing with all the people in my life that don't or won't understand what Dr. Webb said. If you come away thinking that training is temporary and it will be "over before you know it" you just don't understand. The hours NEVER get easier and the responsibilities never get lighter. If you think this is a bad thing, consider doing something else with your life

Is it required to obtain a Bachelors in Biology or Chemistry as a premed degree? Also can you get grandfathered into med school through experience, by being a Paramedic with an Associates in EMS and having BSN etc.
@l1quidRL
@l1quidRL 4 жыл бұрын
Nicolas Navarro You will need to complete the prerequisites for your desired program and it is usually recommended to obtain a degree in microbiology, biochemistry, or biology. Prerequisites vary from program to program. Paramedics and nurses don’t get “grandfathered in”, however it does look good on most medical school applications to have experience in the medical field.

I have a 3rd degree grand theft to my record when I was 20 yrs old. I am now 33 with a 3.8 GPA in BSN, 515 MCAT. Is it legally possible to become a doctor? After several research, It has been said that any applicant with a record cannot prescribe medicine therefore the only medical specialist available would be pathologist. Any help and recommendation will help greatly. Thank you.

Sculpin still not too late bruh. Trust me I’ve seen older. Nowadays the average age in med school is also higher. And I’ve met physicians who started out later than you. And, with regards to money, almost everyone takes out a loan. The most important thing is that you have to make sure that this is what you really want.
