The whole reason why Robert even came into the picture in this film is because she flirted with him a little bit when she saw Hardin with Lilian. Tessa doesn't realize that she sort of enables Hardin's jealous tendencies when she does that, therefore it results in him taking her little flirtations with other guys very personally. In short, both Tessa and Hardin are very controlling and possessive of each other.

Lol this series of films is completely unwatchable. There's definitely a beauty and the beast trope in tv and film that everyone loves, but this doesn't even come under that, they've gone do beyond the scope - they're both detestable characters who are abusive to one another, and there's no self awareness from the writers like in Netflix's You for example (come to think of it, You is basically a parody on the toxic love interest genre). This shows abuse without being either romanticized or self aware, it's just trash.

This is the first franchise that has taught me that real life things like this (or somewhat) happen and love isn’t always perfect, but not everyone knows that no?
