Hardtail or Full-Suspension that's the question right? With hardtails becoming more & more capable, some riders are opting for more simplistic options, whilst others are just simply full-sus fanatics! Blake Samson, and well, Blake Samson are out in La Fenasosa Bike Park to put these two bikes through a series of tests to find out which one is best!

I went back from full sus to hardtail and I enjoy it a lot. Sometimes it’s not the question which bike is more comfortable but which bike is more fun. On most trails around my area you just go down as fast as you can on a full sus while it’s more challenging on a hardtail and therefore more fun.

You learn how to ride a mountain bike properly on a hardtail. You will be a faster rider on a full suspension if you start off on a hardtail. Also hardtails are so much fun. Even better when you take one to a downhill track and keep up or over take the big rigs!!

I ride both. I have a very nice full sus and hard tail. Both are set up for trail riding. I ride both of them every week. I love both and I love the differences. The hardtail makes me feel very connected to the trail and allows me to work that part of my riding. Full sus is for the rougher trails. I love how well a modern full sus climbs the technical stuff. I love challenging climbs and I do them on both bikes, but a modern full sus climbs amazing. Also having two bikes for me is essential. I ride a lot and want to always have a back up bike. Also the hardtail is a great workout bike.

Doesn’t climbing with a full sus make it harder as the suspension absorbs your energy you try to into the climb? And it weighs more too?

@@Hello_there_obi a modern full sis tracks the ground and has more traction. I can climb trails on my 32 lb trail bike I could never climb on my 27lb hard tail. I ride a lot of single diamond trails in Northern California and the climbing parts are rock gardens. Full sus is superior. I climb well on both bikes because I weigh 180lbs and slim and strong. Great vid! First bike I would go with a good hardtail bike. Later, when you are good at finding lines and you are starting to ride bike parks and rock gardens, then get a second bike with full suspension. If you ride all the time, your body will appreciate the full suspension. Then you will have two bikes, which is important because you always want a spare bike so that you never miss a day of riding.

Awesome video. Full suspension is probably the way to go these days but expense, weight and my age of 50 now really makes me question this. This video really sums it up nicely and is very well done. I'm not 20 30 or even 40 anymore and unfortunately should not be going balls out anymore.

Hard tail and ridged forks. Every sus fork I've ridden or owned was frozen on one side and felt super dangerous. Every soft tail wobbles and rattles. The effort to peddle a full sus is also higher, due to gravitational forces. Bikes to me are like knives. A swiss folding style looks kinda neat, but will never compete to the full one piece blade. More moving parts, more chance of failures.

For the past year i've been wondering around if i should buy a mountain bike or not. I want to spend less than 2.000 EUR but I wonder whats best considering this budget: going for decent hardtail or getting something with full suspension. From one side 2000eur should be enough to get a decent hardtail but might be short for full suspension? But I'm afraid that if I buy a hardtail I would want to swap after 6months or so... any tips based on your experience (really don't want to go above 2000eur)?

I'm lucky enough to have both a full sus and a hardtail, a nukeproof scout and a yt jeffsey. However I'm unlucky enough to live in eastern Canada where I cant ride half the year :X My full sus is amazing everywhere but I find it makes some trails a bit too easy which kind of defeats the purpose of riding in my opinion. The scout is just amazing everywhere I dont think i would ever get rid of it.
