This machine will automate the capacity testing of 18650 cells based on a constant 1 amp current draw. I have a few hundred 18650 cells that were salvaged from laptop batteries. Some may be good, and some may be bad. I want to assemble all of the good batteries into packs for my camera, phone, solar power bank, the list just goes on really. This machine is the first step. Also yes the stack of batteries was a very dumb idea but I tried to use the parts I already had. Obviously a DC(high rpm) motor is not suitable especially since you cant really do precise movements.

Battery Discharge Protection Circuit: Designed by me last summer :) This circuit monitors the battery voltage and disconnects it from the load at around 2.52V. It needs an external signal such as a switch or an Arduino digital write to turn on the battery once it disconnects. When the battery dies, the circuit disconnects itself from the battery, drawing zero current in its off state.

Hey Devon, cool video! Great project. BTW I have a suggestion. You don't need a battery feeder, just arrange them straight in line stacked above the actual measuring chamber. Once you eject the next falls in place immediately. Fix a slightly springy backplate so your linear connector can push it for good contact. Cheers

You are a Computer Science undergraduate student right?I'm from Brazil, and currently I am at the Computing Engineering degree's fourth semester, being that the closer we got to hardware were VHDL projects and,in this semester, MIPS assembly language, with nothing but Electrical Circuits' theory related to analog electronics being lectured until now because Basic Electronics is a course of the next semester and, sspeaking sincerely, I really don't believe that we will ever need to do a project like this for the degree, which has Embedded Systems and Microcontrollers courses as optional, and that project gives me the impression that CS students at the US would be greater computer engineers than the ones graduate at the Brazilian universities. However,I still hope to do this Hardware-Software integration someday, especially before graduating.Keep up with the project bro, it is awesome!

What you could also do would sort the ones that are good and bad to separate piles (similarly how you measure them the system would remember the values (compare them to desired ones (with a deviation of course) ) then shove it to left or to right based on the result. All you would have to do (after implementing the conveyer/different delivery method) would be put the battery into the sort stack then it would sort left the duds right the still usable ones. If you would want to be really fancy you could implement charging of the good ones basically the same as you decharging them mechanism. You have all in place you just need to make 2 more replicas and alter one of them to do the good ones go right bad goes left. So, in the end, you would just come to the machine fill it with batteries come back few hours later and have them sorted and charged (the good ones well you could charge both but why).
