I really don't trust Dell based on personal experience. While I've never had the XPS laptop, I have an XPS desktop only two years old and have had multiple issues with it. On laptops, I have owned three Dell Inspirons and each lasted only one year before the motherboards went out. I currently have a Lenovo Yoga I bought nearly three years ago and it has been outstanding. Maybe the XPS are built much better than the ones I owned but I would not want to take the chance. My xps15 from 2019 is one of the most unstable computer I ever had. It starts up in the middle of the night (from being turned off, not from sleep mode) and runs like a plane for 30minutes before turning off again. I had more BDOS than I ever had in my life. For the last fix I had to uninstall the Nvidia card and reprogram windows registry so that it stops reinstalling it on its own. It took me a literal day of work. Dell's support assist OS is the equivalent of a forced virus that you can't get rid off. If you want to access windows backup tools you have to go through support assist. And on top of that, it weights a tone and is louder than fan pointed at your face. BUY ANYTHING BUT DELL! It's all just good specs on a paper. The reality is terrible.

Got no clue as to why you want to compare two laptops of two different sizes, occupying two different product categories. But since you did, it needs to be pointed out that a casing made from a combination of folded sheet-metal and plastic panels isn't comparable to a chassis milled out of a solid block of aluminum. I don't doubt that the ROG Flow x13 _feels_ solid, but that's a different thing from the solidity achieved with unibody construction.
@tigerade762 жыл бұрын
@@XMACHINAv2 This may be a heavy shock for you, and I understand that, but in fact these computers occupy the same category - these are premium business ultrabooks with a dedicated graphics card. I know Asus has ROG in name, but in reality it is a business laptop with the ability to run games, exactly like the Dell XPS, which is also available in 13 inch size. Both computers have a similar graphics cards, Asus has an optional 4k panel available if someone needs one. I think you are underestimating Asus, despite the fact that it is not built from a single block of aluminum its build quality does not differ from the Dell XPS or MacBooks. Seriously, I compared these 3 computers before I bought Asus. X13 doesn't just feel solid, it IS solid. Very solid. I mention the Asus for the reason, I wanted to buy a dell XPS myself, but ended up buying Asus, so I suppose other people may also be interested in this alternative. And once again I strongly advise - do not be cheated by ROG in the name, Asus X13 is a business computer, or studio notebook, whatever name you prefer. Asus also has disadvantages - worse speakers, camera and microphone than Dell, as well as shorter battery life. However it is offered at a better price, which is also important :)

Performance has nothing to do with price. Your Lenovo Ideapad 5 costs significantly less because it uses "budget hardware" - a.k.a cheaper build, keyboard, touchpad, speakers, webcam, battery, etc. "Hardware" is the most expensive part of a computer, and only hardware creates price points.
@finestPlugins2 жыл бұрын
@@blue4059 I'd agree but then I'd also like to see those points, the ones that actually make a difference, being focused in detail. As far as general build quality, keyboard or even webcam quality (which isn't stellar on the XPS either) I'm not even sure if there is much of a difference. Touchpad, maybe - I can't really judge as I prefer to use a mouse if possible. The speakers could also make a difference if that's a usage requirement. Battery life is paramount of course, but then there's also models with discrete GPUs.
@blue40592 жыл бұрын
The difference in quality becomes visible when you see them in person. Also I forgot to mention, Ideapad 5 is not in the same 'category' as XPS 15 which is another reason for price difference. Your laptop is an 'ultrabook', whereas the XPS is a 'performance laptop' which is supposed to cost x2-4 times as much. Lenovo have their own 3 'performance laptops' that competes with Dell XPS lineup, which are "Yoga Slim 7 Pro 16", "Thinkpad X1 Extreme", and "Thinkpad Z16". Dell are lucky as there are very few laptops running Windows in this sector, so they can get away with their high prices and average experience. I mean this does not come close to the MB Pro 14/16 in most metrics. The OLED display is outshone in max brightness, the battery life on the OLED is pretty ordinary. Apple is still king of the trackpads and has far better webcam. IO is better on the Mac. The Mac gets 120Hz dynamic refresh. Better DAC on Mac. The MB Pros perform as well on battery and efficiency per watt is miles better. Macs have far better sustained performance from some reviews I have seen. There is simply no way I could buy the Dell, though macOS offers all the apps I need so for some that may not be an option. Unless you're a digital artist that needs a Surface Laptop Studio or an iPad for great pen exleriences I think a Macbook Pro 14, G14 or Blade 14 are all much better options for the creators that Dell targets these larger XPS computers at.

1. The OLED display is outshone in max brightness... The display that Apple uses only has a 1600 nits *peak* brightness. If you look at the actual data, on max brightness setting it only runs at ~500 nits. The 1600 nits is basically for some individual pixels when running stuff like HDR content. 2. IO is better on the Mac... The Macbook Pro 2021 does have more total ports, but to be honest with you, the existence of the HDMI port on it is *kind of* useless since you can just hook up a USB-C to HDMI cable; although, still, overall more ports to play with on the Macbook 3. 120Hz refresh rate, better DAC I agree with you on this one 4. The MB Pros perform as well on battery and efficiency per watt is miles better. Macs have far better-sustained performance from some reviews I have seen. The thing about the Macbooks u aren't realizing is that they are rocking 90 and 100 Whr batteries. Not only that, the 14" one with the M1 Max actually has very bad battery life -- on par with 10th and 11th gen Intel H series laptops (4-6 hours, light loads). That's because the M1 Max actually is power hungry. Although this, I must admit, it's still pretty good for a ~55W APU power ceiling versus ~95Wish. But my point is, although it's pretty good, there are *some* caveats to be aware of. Don't get me wrong -- I don't hate the Macbooks (I plan to buy one myself). I'm just trying to avoid the misinformation 5. Dell has no competition... G14 2022 -- M16 2022 -- ProArt Studiobook -- Surface Laptop Studio -- ASUS's new OLED VivoBook & Zenbooks (that they launched very recently for creators) -- in my opinion there still is competition :)

I purchased my Dell laptop two years ago for $3.2k. Unfortunately, the camera has not been functioning since the beginning. Overall, my experience has been positive except for a few issues. The battery life is not satisfactory, the touchpad is not as smooth as a Mac, there is occasional Wi-Fi stuttering, and it tends to heat up under heavy workloads. There are also several features that I find unnecessary, such as the touch screen, which I keep turned off, and the 64GB of RAM that I barely utilize more than 30% of.

Hi, I would like to ask an information. I am interested in this configuration for the 9520 model: i7 12700h, 3050Ti, 16gb RAM, 1TB SSD, FHD+ (1920x1200) display. Does this incorporate a 6 cell battery (86 Wh)? I am trying to understand whether the i7 12700H ALWAYS comes with a 6 cell battery or not. Surprisingly, on the Dell Italy website there is the 3 cell battery with that configuration, but in any other country it is a 6 cell. So it might be a mistake on the Italian website. As there is no customer/sales support in that country, I would like to be sure before making the purchase. Thank you!

They need to make a version of this with better port selection, a bigger battery (if possible), and an iGPU-only config (maybe w/ AMD Ryzen). I think plenty of people want a premium laptop for personal or business use and don't need a dGPU. Would love a ~100Hz screen.

At this price I would choose a legion 7, a gorgeous 16:10 1600p 500nit 165hz, a very good build quality and battery life and better GPU for less price. The argument that the XPS lineup is for "pro" no longer stands, recent gaming laptops are well built and offer better value. The macbook pro is a way better deal than this XPS considering both performance/price.

The XPS17 had a bigger screen but also a bigger battery and the air chamber cooling, so I am wondering which will provide better battery life with constant but normal use, no big music or video editing, not even much spreadsheeting, just lots of online streaming with numerous Chrome tabs and other things open. Any thoughts? Great review though. Thumbs up!
