Nice planning! Not everyone would think ahead far enough to have some plumbers built into the family! I love the idea that you're using all the waste of the woodyard to help with the house utilities!! My dream. Wish I still had your youthful energy! I hope it's as solid and reliable as you expect. Most of the woodyard videoistas just dump all that potential energy into a mudhole. That's a shame! Your way is a better example! One of the local guys uses bundles of slabwood, cuts it in half, puts in half a bundle at once. Amazing, to me! Takes care of a LOT of waste!

You will not regret this purchase. I purchased a used central boiler in 05 for 3500 with underground pipe and heat exchanger. I used it for 10 years and sold it for 5000 . I replaced it with a bigger new unit. Since 05 I have used 3 fills of propane. I love my boiler I still cut my own firewood at 71 years old. I have always admired the OWB wood boilers. The Central Boiler dealer once told me: "you buy an OWB for quality of life": ---almost unlimited heat; easy to control the heat...unlike hard to control wood furnaces and wood stoves; ---safe from burning up your house, since its outside; insurance companies like that feature! All the smoke is outside, not inside your house compared to wood furnaces and wood stoves which are generally inside your house. No more chimney fires! ---all the bugs in the wood you burn are outside...not inside crawling around your house. You dont store wood in your house. No more broken basement windows from throwing wood into the basement! ---all the wood you burn is outside (not inside your house). You avoid the mold, dust and dirt being inside your house. Compared to wood stoves and wood furnaces, this is a big improvement to "quality of life". Granted: ---OWB's cost more money to buy, run and install, compared to wood furnaces and wood stoves. And, you have to go outside to load wood, about 2 times per day in the winter. ---they can be "smokey", unless you have an EPA rated OWB. If you have "real close neighbors" they will likely complain about the smoke? Our house is super efficient and somewhat small. Therefore, we presently mainly burn natural gas, and occasionally burn the wood furnace and/or wood stove for ambiance.
@hardworkingmanoutdoors Жыл бұрын
We are definitely looking forward to getting it up and running. We’ll still burn in our insert some but it will be nice to not have to. I’ve always wanted one! A lot of positives to them for sure.

Great buy. One thing i would do is lift the furnace up on a pad so that the door is higher, it will make a difference when you load the wood into the furnace, both from a smoke in your face perspective and bending over. I regret that i did not do that when i bought mine. It really does not matter what you use for a base, i would recommend a concrete pad. I have a Classic outdoor wood furnace since 1995, it is still being used as our main source of heat in the winter. Still going strong!

Hi Heath and Rachel, I've bought a couple of used OWB's before and have had decent luck with them. I would suggest that you remove all the tinwork , remove all the old insulation and install new Roxul fire proof insulation Then reinstall the tinwork. As you can see in the back door it's in bad shape and you will be losing lots of heat. I also prefer to have my pump inside the house/ basement so that insulation can be put in that whole cavity. There is a rigid Rolux type insulation board called Comfort Board that you could cut to size to fit in there. I used steel studding to build around the legs and insulated it also. This really helps to keep the snow from melting around the unit which makes a mess. My OWB has a 24"x 24" door and is 54" deep. I cut my rounds to 32" long and split small enough them so my wife can load them. Branches are cut 48" long and not split. Easier to stack and less cutting. We also burn almost everything on ours. We have a bandmill so use up slabs too.

Missouri is taken care of with my channel and I would say concrete pad for that outdoor wood burner that’s what we use and it’s easy to clean up the bark and scraps around it with a shovel or dustpan and broom rather than fight gravel or you could also just take your Milwaukee M 18 blower and blow it into the woods since you’re less than 10 feet away from it

Heath, you got a heck of a deal. The spiral pieces are cleaners for the heat exchanger tubes. The cleaner they are the more efficient it will be. I would pour a footing first and then a pad. Make the pad bigger. Just in case you want to upgrade the boiler. No 2 boilers are alike. Please get Rehau, logstor, or Thermopex pipe. It is expensive, but you wont be doing it twice. Do not use the wrapped insulated pipe. I would run a waterline out to the boiler to fill it because of it getting low. Some people put an extra outlet out. One thing to keep in mind is a generator if power goes out to keep it circulating and from freezing. Enjoy the long hot showers Rachel and a cleaner/tidy wood yard.

Best advice I can give you is put it so the wind doesnt blow smoke toards house and dry wood is definately better than wet wood. Wet wood takes alot of heat to dry it out and makes alot of creosote whick will plug the chimney. Dont run it with cap on chimney just cover it with a pail in the non burning season to keep birds and water out. Make sure to put agua stat to turn on furnace fan if water temp gets too high when not enough demand is there and you accidentally over fire in warmer weather.
@hardworkingmanoutdoors Жыл бұрын
Thanks Bert, a lot of great tips! I have some learning to do. Luckily my brothers have a decent amount of experience with them. As far as wind goes we should be pretty good, we live in the middle of the woods so we don’t get much wind to the house at all which is nice except for my wood drying yard. We have plenty of dry but not top quality wood we can feed it.

You got a good deal, you are down to the wire to get it installed before freezing weather... Don't go cheap on the insulated lines to your house... When you run your lines underground also add a cat 5 ethernet cable it will come in handy for a monitoring system later... Crimp all pex fittings (don't rely on sharkbite). Water quality will be a whole new learning experience, boilers rust from the inside out due do poor water quality... Well water is a boiler's worst enemy if not treated & maintained properly...

I've had a boiler for 15 yrs. You definately want a perfectly level concrete slab. It's important to keep the reservoir tank level. 4 ft. Deep for the insolated pipe. If you don't you'll be heating the yard to keep the worms warm. You lose alot of efficiency if you don't go to 4 ft. Let me know if you need help I'm only 1.5 to 2 hrs away.😂

@edfeldpausch7169 Жыл бұрын
You may want to think about a block wall around the parameter of the slab. To close in the bottom of the stove.leaving your pipe exposed between the bottom of the stove and where it enters the ground is another problem with that style of stove. Alot of customers of that style stove will stack straw bales around the bottom of only to have the bales catch fire. If you do the install correctly you will love this stove for years.

Why I had to dish out $300 for my Heatmor Furnace😉 Ahhh, ReGen… I’m always scouring Marketplace for low hour pre-emissions compacts for work. ReGen! Luv your channel watch it all the time seeing how you plan on replacing some things pouring a pad once you set it in it's forever home . Don't skimp do it right with a pad once it's poured that's it your done. Keep up the good work looking forward to the next video.

Thank you, definitely going to go with a pad for the permanent home. Time to research how to poor one correctly.
@nhhbbyloggr5022 Жыл бұрын
Pour a pad, absolutely. I've had one for 22 years. We still have the same tank of home heating oil since we installed the first OWB. Please, please, please Do not skimp on the under ground Pex . You will lose so much heat if you try to go cheap. Get a superstore water heater with a coil for your domestic hot water. You'll never run out of hot water.
@hardworkingmanoutdoors Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the advice! We will definitely be going with a pad and not skimping on the underground pipe. I’ll look into the water heater.

Good video I think you got a good deal. I have a older wood master than that I run it year round to heat water much cheaper than water heater. I have had to rebuilt door and replaced blower and pumps. Mine is on cement blocks but a slab would be better. The regim and feed fuel is nothing but a waste and mess people have been burned alive because of it. There is a guy that can delete it and your tractors will have more power and burn less fuel. I am never buying anything with that crap on it take care be safe and well
@hardworkingmanoutdoors Жыл бұрын
Thanks, we plan on running it all year for water as well. I’ve been burned by the exhaust during regen before, it gets so hot! I hate it!

What keeps the water line for freezing. Do you have to keep it running continually in subzero temps?

Jeff, I believe you do if you use water. I guess some people run some type of antifreeze. I’m still learning.

Don’t be a fool for what ur in it for pour ur self a huge pad for dog house and extra room for staging wood. Plus u know ur gonna build a shed roof over it To in future. Nobody wants fill it in super cold rain.

That definitely seems like the way to go! Planning on an oversized pad and a roof down the road.
@GlenKent-n8n Жыл бұрын
Great deal. I have been involved with both set ups. I prefer a pad of concrete. No settling to worry about. I personally suggest you build a pad at least twice the size you think you want. Do not put the boiler on the edge. The reason is if you ever decide to upgrade the hoses almost certainly will not line up. A larger pad with at least 4 to 6 feet away from the edge of the pad will usually provide enough room for an upgrade. The other reason is cleaning and loading. It makes a muddy mess. Also you may at some point down the road may wish to put a shed over it. I hope you get after this project fast. It is not all that good for the boiler to set empty for long. Those spiral pieces are to help you clean those tubes. The tubes themselves are the heat exchanger. Keeping the tubes cleaned out will greatly effect the efficiency of your boiler. Great content keep it up. An afterthought. Make sure your home is on the up wind side of your prevailing wind.

First of all, will you stop stealing stuff? LOL? That's a hell of a deal on that unit's even color matched to your housecondly hook me up with a hardware, a man teacher, and we'll have one in Nova Scotia, Canada. Thirdly, do not set that on gravel with the water in it. When the ground throws, the legs will sink into the ground. You wanna set it up list on the 24 by 2 foot by 6 inch reinforced concrete blocks. Or better yet, pour a small cement pad. I would pour your cement pad. At least a couple feet bigger all the way around the dimensions of the furnace. To make for easy, clean up, Tina Chaplin's known or whatever. Thirdly, an eventually, it would be nice if you built like a little. Rooftop over top of that keeps the snow away and you don't have to shovel. Snow to get to your furnace. We have hours at my shop stuck in the side of a building. Which is my wood shed mine? Is the next size bigger and I heat my 40 by 210. For building with what's about 12 qt popple That's all I burn. And they built them here in Canada as well. Minus the Empire brand. And the ones that were made to burn pellets also burned. Hey, biomass product, they even had them geared up to burn coal. Now the one that I seen appear had turntable inside. For when you're burning pellets and a hopper just kept feeding. The palette's in on to this turntable. And the turntable turned and grinded the palettes to adopt, which was then burnt in a combustion chamber. Good, pick up for yourself. Can't wait to see you hook it up.❤
