I was 18 and had moved to San Francisco for school. I remember the Hare Krishnas at the airport and on the streets. I did think they were very strange and a cult, probably, because who could be that happy? Fast forward to 20 years later - I attended a Rainbow Family event and the Hare Krishna fed me. I felt so happy with the chants. Soon after, I was led to a Raja Yoga Center in my community and the rest is history. Over 20 years under my belt following the yogic philosophy. Prabhupada was doing the will of Krishna, and I am so grateful for his work. Om Krishna.

It gives us a sense of what we got, what we were given, and makes us again promise to ourselves and our communities to strive in His movement and make everyone happy in the service to Krishna! After reading some of the Bhagavad-Gita, and seeing that it talks about completely letting go of material life, even if that means leaving family and friends, I was like, "who actually does that?" This man left his family and children to go to a place where he had no reason to be taken seriously, and changed the world. That's inspiration to follow the path God has for us.

I started college in 1967. I got to see many of the celebrities of the day: Leary, Spock, Devlin, Ginsburg etc in my native state of Rhode Island. My friend and I took a bus to NYC to see who this guy Srila Prabhupad was. I went to a lecture and was very interested in what he had to say. I was only there for a day as I was a poor student. When I got some extra money I subscribed to Back to Godhead magazine. I wanted to be more involved but I was on a sport scholarship. I think of him often.
