Islamic practices such as kindness and generosity with full of sincerity towards others such as family, friends and even strangers, and more so toward guests, asking forgiveness not only during eid days but any other occasions such as farewell etc are heavily embedded in malay muslim culture. Open house and kissing hand of the elderly especially parents and grandparents are particularly unique in malay cilture though. Nowdays some of these practices and culture are prevalent and adopted by other malaysians such as chinese and indian. May Allah guide all Malaysians to the right path as only the right path will lead to jannah, aameen!
@Ruriko.Y2 жыл бұрын
I've seen Filipinos kiss the hands of their elders too (in dramas, more like they bring the hand to their forehead, which some Malays do as well.) It's a Malay culture, so I suppose since they're ethnically/historically Malay, they still do it too? I'm not sure.

At 5:52 when you shake hands to ask for forgiveness and have a heart-to-heart talk with Aida's father, I actually feel touched and cried a bit, kandou shimashita! 🥲 because he was the one who accepted your request to eat homecook food and that's how you meet Aida's family, such a beautiful fate happened. On raya day we lower our ego and ask for forgiveness, whether we have intentionally or unintentionally hurt or offended someone, we say sorry to each other and say kosong-kosong, to say we start a new clean slate with each other in our relationship. I love this tradition too, very humbling. So happy to see you enjoying raya in its true form, because of covid and lockdown we haven't had real raya celebrations for 2 years so this year raya we all are very excited and touched. Selamat hari raya Kaz! 🌟

Other than seeking forgiveness from the elders, you can also be thankful to them for what they had did for you. And sometimes we just ask for forgiveness for no reason because we never know if we ever hurt people unintentionally. Its the togetherness & reflection during raya morning that we really are trying to achieve after a long month of self-control and self-reflecting. Like christmast, santa giving out gifts to good kid. But during raya, we ourselves no matter what age, look behind to reflect on our past actions and what we can improve in the future to be a better person. Ramadhan is a month of self awareness & syawal (raya) is a month of celebration.

The best part is kazu got to see our culture on how we asking for forgiveness to each other and also how big a malay family gathering can be. As someone who live is jpn for more than 10 years, i can confirm that there is no culture of asking for forgiveness deep from our heart even with their parent. and also their family gathering is only limited to grandparent to grandchild.. not like us cousin’s cousin’s cousin (sepupu sepapat n bau-bau bacang lol 😂) can even come to our house during raya. And also our friend’s friend’s friend also are welcome to our house..

Hari raya is the best time for forgiveness. Closing the "old book" and start anew together. 0 vs 0 means both parties wont held each other accountable in the afterlife. This is important because muslim believe sin against another human will not be forgiven unless the other party wills to, fullheartedly. So better come clean while both party still alive.
