I wish to listen one song which i sow mohan lal movie ending aanandam anandhananam the music did by kaithpuram, dhasettan voice, I dont know the ragam search a lot but didn't get but accidentally i got today from them. In my opinion, this duo comes very close in giving that same divine effect for this song as Sri.K.J.Yesudas. The Harivarasanam song had been there to best of knowledge for many years. I am 68 now . My father was a strong devotee and he visted the temple till his seventieth year. After every visit he used to explain the scene in the Sannidhanam by the Melsanthi and others, and the Mel Santhi will put off the lamps one by one and by the time the last sanza is reached there will be one lamp burning and the tempo will increase and before one could realise they will lock the door and at that moment there used to be a piercing silence in the Sannidhanam. Mr Jesuddas sang it only later.and Devaraj Master is not the original composer.

While I must first admit that the singers have a very mellifluous voice, I must daresay that there are certain 'things' that I must point out to:- 1. The name of this wonderful composition is 'Hariharaatmaja Devashtakam', and it is penned by Kambangudi Sri Kulathu Iyer, a resident of Chennai around some 100-150 years ago. It is believed that the Lord himself dictated these lines to Sri Iyer, who faithfully penned them down, and returned for the proceeding verses. 2. The vaggayekas sing 'Varagadaayutham Devavarnitham', whereas the actual words are 'Varagadaayutham Vedavarnitham' i.e. the Lord whose paeans are sung by the Sruthis themselves. 3. Great importance has been given to showing off of the singers' vocal prowess. However, had a little of that attention been spared to the eloquent words of the ashtakam itself, and the potent meaning that they convey, then this performance could have been elevated to another level itself. 4. The ashtakam is not a lullaby as many consider it to be. Had it been so, the final lines would have not ended with 'Hariharaatmajam Devamaashraye'. This is so because we do not do 'Sharanaagati' to a sleeping person. The ashtakam itself does not indicate about its utility as a lullaby anywhere. It can be sung by anybody, at any time of the day and loose oneself in the thoughts of the Supreme Lord. 5. It would have been better if all the verses of the ashtakam had been sung by the singers, instead of finishing the performance so abruptly.

+chetan kumar - Points #1 and #4 are informational - wikipedia has this info. Anybody can find it. - Point 3 is just speculative and just an opinion. Anyone can give an opinion like that about anything. - Point 5 again is not criticism - just a wish that they could have continued. But, they chose to break it into 3 each - making it a shatakam. Fine, whatever. - Point 2: Now this is the only fair criticism which I do agree was a mistake. +aryandart2001 There is no need to tell someone who points out to perform the same. You can apply that to anything - what about people who play sports? You can always say - why don't you bowl and bat like that professional - then you will know what is pressure/skill etc. There is a reason they are called "professionals". With fame will come scrutiny. Just accept what is wrong and move on. But, mistakes can happen. Otherwise, this was flawless and extremely well done and beautifully/soulfully rendered.

+shri iyer I completely agree that this was a beautifully rendered piece of music. I just wanted to acknowledge the criticism at the Trichur Brothers' relative lack of attention to lyric and pronunciation, which sort of stands out in musicians of their stature. I am a great fan of their music, and can't get enough of their swaras. Improving upon delivering perfection in lyric and pronunciation will only increase the authenticity of the experience all around.

Yes, I have agreed to the lyrical mistake as well. Given both of them used the word - Deva - instead of Veda (and that was the only mistake) - I wonder if they just practiced it that way right from day one. They are also humans and working hard everyday to improve every facet of their Music. But as mentioned in the previous post - the criticism should be in the form of constructive "feedback" to make them better so that we can all benefit.
