When I attended the funeral of the mother of two of my half-sisters, one of them insisted on putting up a brave front and I said in an angry voice "Be strong Sis!" she broke down and cried while I hugged her. Afterwards, I never heard from her or my other half-sister again! Grief and anger are definitely not permitted at funerals or wakes! Preach, Harlan, preach!

I consider Harlan an early influence, met him once and have read many of his books, though Angry Candy is in a long list of those I think little of. I will re-read it, but early judgements rarely change. His stories written in windows I find forgettable. He said five out of the five he did one week won major awards. Perhaps. Many awards are given for reasons other than quality.
