Wow how this mall has changed....I grew up near there and spent so much time at the HIP in the 70's and 80s....I loved it. But I moved away and haven't been there in over 20 yrs... So glad its doing so well!

Wow! Thank you for this great video, used to spend so much time walking & shopping at the HIP, I do miss it. Moved to San Francisco in 2009 so lots changed at this mall.

Thanks for watching! A big purpose for these videos is to kind of archive them in their current state, so we can see how much theyve changed down the road too

No problem! This has been by far the most uniquely shaped mall Ive been to, so I apologize if I ended up missing a place or corner. I'll definitely be coming back to this one just for a regular trip some day

I think you got everything! It was originally an outdoor mall. The Target and the Kohls wing were add-ons. The Dicks, Five Below and hobby lobby took over the old Carsons space. The reason for the weird shape.

I too went to Harlem Irving Plaza. In fact, I used to live like a couple blocks from the mall. Sometimes my mom and I would walk to the mall. I was here not too long ago, and it has changed quite a bit with new stores added. Still looks very nice too

Damn this is the first time I have laid eyes inside here for nearly 20 years, so a lot of nostalgia. I am from the UK and went on trips to Chicago 4 times between 2002-2004 to visit my then girlfriend and now wife of 21 years. During each trip (usually lasting 2 weeks) we would go into Hip Mall several times. My wife lived in Logan Square and her family are still there but told me its changed a lot. I imagine most of the shops have changed but I remember we would go into a Spencer's Gifts. My wife moved to the UK in 2003, we visited a year later in 2004 but have not been back since, have 3 children so very expensive flights. I would like to go back for nostalgia but fear its not the Chicago I remember. Thanks for posting.

It's good to see a mall that's still surviving. I didn't realize a Hobby Lobby was in there. I might go there today. I need a frother.
