Surprising how good the guitar sounds with the stock pickups even. Hooked on these Bass VIs. Wish more of them had a floating bridge. I feel spoiled now with the Squier haha

Haha! They are addictive. Check out the Aria J'bone. Has a Trem and is 30 inches as well. With a Humbucker in the bridge and single coil in the neck.

I have this guitar and have been using it for a few years. I switched the bridge and neck pickups to Seymour Duncan hot rails. They're like single coil sized humbuckers to reduce hum. I have it set currently in drop D1. This guitar has lots of variety when it comes to tunings. My other fav tunings would be drop G or G Standard with lighter strings, but at one point I went up to C2 standard 🤣 Either way, this is a fantastic and versatile instrument, especially when you upgrade it and put quality strings on it!

I also have one currently set up as a bass with newtones bass vi set, removed the stock single coils and have a Hotmail in the middle and bridge positions with no neck pickup, 3 way switch and single volume. Sounds a lot better with the new pickups. Haven't tried it as a baritone as yet but that's on the horizon

Ooooh. Been waiting for you to get a hold of one of these. Because I have one too! So I'm glad you find it agreeable. Although with most HB Guitars, they always need a little tweaking right out of the box, don't they? I found the nut and pickups to be the weak spots on my acquisition. But after a professional setup and some minor soldering, it holds tune beautifully (Stringjoy 24-90 in Open D). I changed to a 3 way selector and wired the Bridge and Middle in either series or parallel. I can't remember, but it curbed some of the single coil hum.

I found the nut ok. But a TUSQ would be a nice addition. Pickups definitely the weak point. Thats definitely gonna be my first mod.

@@GaryHiebner ooh yeh. TUSQ might be the way to go. Still on the fence about pickups due to lack of confidence in my wood routing abilities. But I suppose that's what techs/luthiers are for. For any 3rd party observer. It's routed like a strat inside. 3 individual small channels for each pickup. Found this out whilst shielding the cavity. Would reccomend a swimming pool route to reduce some of the body weight. Dealers choice though innit.

I also have one of these. Solid mod platform. BUT!!! My electronics came with some sort of grounding issue, very noisy and picking up the trem springs. However, also eventually blocked off the trem, so can't comment on that RE: Stability and tuning. But the neck is great. Heel truss rod adjustment is much easier to manage. Went for the "white" one, but the finish is a bit thin. Would recommend the black or burst as a result.

Yeah I'm not too sure on the shipping to the US. Anything shipped to South Africa is hectic. So used to high shipping prices.

Quick question! I heard the pickups are pretty much strat pickups. Is this true? And if so, do you think throwing on original Fender ‘57/‘62s would make it sound even better?

I dont know if they are the same as Fender pickups. They Harley Benton stock single coils. Honestly they are pretty good for stock pickups. If I had a strat I would of compared them.

Hey man! Love your baritone videos !!! I have the subzero rogue vi and was trying to find the right strings for drop D to C# tunings , my only problem is that reverse headstock and strings not fitting! What’s a good gague and brand that I can use for that? Thanks man

Have you tried Stringjoy string? Their Bass VI strings should be long enough.

Thx for the review! I have already Put several mods in mine, like baritone locking tuners, TUSQ nut, roller bridge, and bridge Pickup. I would recommend to stay with SCs, as JB Jr. clone sounded pretty pale in mine. You might want to check out IronGear Smoke Stack II which is super beefy, very high output, and has tap option and provides two very nice tones with an added Switch,

I'm not too sure where they manufactured. Doesn't say anywhere on the guitar. But its a Thomann brand. So where ever they get their guitars done.
