Harley-Davidson 2024 Road King Special Review - Ride Along & Personal Opinion

I think the RK is the most versatile bike in Harleys entire inventory. You can slap a screen on it and use it as a long distance touring bike, soon as you get to your destination and you pull it off and boom you have yourself a bar hopper. THey are super low to the ground but still seem to handle fantastic. THe power thing, you slap a cam in it and its a BEAST. If you could only have 1 bike, I think that the King is absolutely the one that literally can fill pretty much ANY want that you have...its literally a jack of all trades.

I was on the fence and ended up with a 2023 Fat Boy instead but I could very well have gotten a RKS if the dealer had had one I added a windshield and a sissy bar to hook a bag when I travel

The Road King Special has always been my favorite HD but gets no love. I have owned Street Glides, Road Glides, Softails and more. To me the Road King Special is their best offering. Just yesterday I test road the new CVO performance bagger and it was great but I also test road the RKS the same day. If all of that nonsense on the CVO is something you are wiling to pay for then great but meh for me. The Road King felt faster, better torque, better front end feel, quick steering and just lighter and more flickable. What I love about the RKS is that you can add the wind splitter wind shield which gives you just as good of wind protection and better visibility. We ride 4 hours to the tail of the dragon, grab a room at the Iron Horse lodge and ride that area for days. To be able to remove the windshield and go open air is like having a convertible. Street Glides/Road Glides are great but man what a difference in feel and fun with the RKS. I am picking up a RKS today and selling my 22 SG ST.

Oh wow thanks for the feedback mate, I really do love how the RK handles and performs aswell. Definitely in my top 3. I'm yet to try out the CVO ST but I'm hoping to get a good experience. I was with a friend on a 2002 road king… he hit the death wobble mid corner and ended up losing his left leg over it. They had to do something about the instability issues of the old design. I don’t like electronics either, but after seeing that happen to him, I understand changes needed to be made.

Ive got a 114 in my Street Glide 2020. It has taken me all the way to Darwin coming back down the centre of Australia. Those engines can easily sit cruising all day. Up in NT can sit on $140 consistently and it has ample power. All the Teco safety stuff you wont even know when its in use. Mine was standard and we cracked 1000km a day for 3 days and they were comfy but the ass got use to it 😀

The 114 is awesome that for sure, the old boy has the same on his glide. Oh yeah without a doubt enough power but in reviews I still have to compare to other Harley's and how it feels stock etc. I imagine with a cam and tune it would rip aswell ! Yeah I didn't notice the tech when punching through the corners so it's probably not as bad as I think haha. That's bloody awesome, gotta love the long haul capabilities of these bikes ! I have the same bike! I do have the SE Streetcanons and Diag4Bike tune on it. I changed the handlebar myself for a 14" ape and put on the Kahuna heated grips the same moment! Further , rear crashbars and streamliner highway pegs. That's it....Oh forget the Freedomshields 20" shield on a "classic type" black mountingbracket. I'm 6'2" and must sit out of the wind. Nice bike dude!🤘🏽

I love the RoadKings. I was bummed when they stopped bringing a chrome version to Aust. then eventually dropped the model. A real shame. I rode a 2022 model with a Screamin’ Eagle 122Ci kit in it and it was a lot of fun for a factory backed and warranty safe upgrade!

I love the Road King but I would like to see them equipped with the spot lights up front like they used to be. Also, imo, the Road King Classic was the most beautiful iteration of the RK lineup. They need to bring back the idea of variety in the Road King family and make LED lighting standard all the way around the bike.

You mentioned it should be 117, are you talking about the cubic inches? Would the extra 3 cubic inches make that much difference?

From standard the 117 Cubic inch has roughly 15hp more. But with abit of work the 114 would be an animal anyway. But usually I try to compare the bikes in there stock form. From riding 117 and the 114 it is definitely a noticeable difference in my opinion. Thanks for watching 🧡 🖤 🤙

i just picked up this exact bike 2 months ago. in my opinion, if you're gonna put a fairing on it then just get the road glide or something else that comes with a fairing. that bike is far to expensive to be some kind of platform to build off of. the bike has a very specific look honestly and i dont think that involves a fairing. but at the end of the day thats just my 2c and it aint worth shit at the end lol. ride safe brotha!!

Hey mate, I was in the resurgence gear jeans and jacket, both are pekev lined and also the jacket has ghost armour in the elbows, and back. Moto boots, gloves and helmet. Wouldnt mind that tank on my Fat Bob.. The linking brakes are also on some of the BMW bikes too.. There is an Australian company that does Cruise Controls for your Harley too, but thats about $1200, cheaper on the 2018 Fat Bob coz you just change the controls on the left side and enable Cruise in the ECM ... You always go near my place on all the bikes LOL .. Good Vid mate

Hey mate, look it did feel different to most bikes but I couldn't tell what the difference was. I'd say I didn't notice it. I felt super confident and the bike had heaps more in it. In saying that mate the tyres weren't even scrubbed in so I was being abit soft haha.

Atleast road glide/street glide you can adjust your modes and take away the linked brakes which gives you control,like what are saying you like. But I think Road kings are still an awesome touring bike that are striped down.

⁠ I sold the RK and the wife walked out and said to me, I guess your going to see The HD shop right, I said yes they have a new Silver Road Glide I am going to buy. She said I would ride if you had three wheels? So the next day I went to buy a New Tri Glide. So I bought a Ebike that goes almost 50 and I am having a blast with my Motor Goat V3.

Alot of harleys recently haven't done anything but in saying that I do like alot of them the way they are. I didn't actually mind the bars but I agree the seat needs to go. Thanks for watching 🤙

There’s only one thing I dislike and it’s always been the case, the anemic diameter of the handlebar on this model of bike. Everything is so beefy and then Harley goes and puts a 1” set of bars on this muscular bike

So all this high tech is probably great, to save the inexperienced who don't know how to ride, from themselves. To me, I believe in natural selection. You should next try to see if you can get an Evo Road King or twin cam to test. No high tech at all. The only downside is lack of power. I myself, have a naked Evo Electra-Glide that for all intent & purpose is a Road King, which I intend to put a 124ci S&S crate motor in. That will give me the power of a new one. It's still lighter than a Street-Glide, Road-Glide & Electra-Glide. The good thing about the extra weight is less buffeting when passing trucks etc, or hitting pot-holes etc. But they are still very manoeuvrable & have a great lean angle I've said it once, I'll say it a thousand times, Roadking: everything you need, nothing you don't. You can fit 2 babies into the panniers! One on each side!! Great for those with twins!! Baby apes are okay, but I would prefer buckhorns. Told you you would love a Road King! Long live the King!!
