I just did it. I've been fighting with problems from day one. I finally got it perfect. It's crazy, people say u need all this and that and it's bullshit. At the end of a 2 month ordeal what worked the best was my mikuni hsr42. A manifold from an Evo engine and the STOCK efi computer and ignition. Thunderheart sucks.pull the fuel pump out, put on a pingle or left sided amazon fuel valve . An Evo manifold, carb, use ur stock ignition and crank sensor, leave your temp sensor in ur engine, leave whatever else unplugged. It works outstanding. U don't need a ignition. Unless u really think u need one or have a really modded engine maybe so u can dial it in. Trust me I'm riding mine every day like this and it feels like I'm riding on rails ud have no idea it was carved except for that classic idle . I just want to help everyone out because this has been a ride for me, a frustrating one that even harley couldn't get right. One night I just walked outside and was like let me try this it makes sense. It's works amazing

What caused you to convert. I have 2001 RK with MM and it starts but will not idle. Thinking of doin the conversion as well because no one wants to work on the MM.

Hi I have just done this conversion on my 2006 dyna wide glide What I did was the following Removed the dash panel and accessed the inside of the tank cut the fuel line and removed it from take left everything els inside the tank connected Removed throttle body and Installed New mikuni manifold ( my manifold came with a hole in it for the map sensor witch I fitted to the manifold this was the only sensor that I kept Then installed new mikuni hsr42 carburettor You need a tank adapter and fuel tap I pulled all wiring that was connected to the throttle body back to the ecm and tucked it all under the seat it fits neatly I then removed the fuse for the fuel pump Bike runs fine without doing anything els How ever the check engine light is on Obviously because all sensors have been unplugged I have read that people suggest to cut wire number six on the Ecm to cancel out the engine light I did this but it did not work Maybe that is for the mm system I removed the speedo glass and face and put a little rubber cover on top of the engine light on the circuit board refitted nowI don’t have to see that light anymore Bike runs well I have been wanting to do this for a long time but could not find enough info and everything I read said you need new ignition I hope this saves somebody hours Fuel gage and light work as normal

I have a 1998 Road King Classic with Magnetti Marelli fuel injection with 116,000 miles on it. I've had a few issues with it, but nothing that I couldn't do myself. It still runs great,I've thought about changing to a carburetor, but the guy who services my bike when it's something I can't handle said with a 116,000 miles on a bike,just keep running it.

Done 50.000miles with magneti marelli, never had any problem.The most important thing is to adjust properly the sensors of injection with your multimeter every 5.000miles.

My brother “exupakias” thank you for the 🤓 clue on keeping the “Magneti Marelli” EFI properly tuned. I personally am an electronic idiot and I wouldn’t even begin to know how to go about hooking up a Holmes Meter 🤣 to anything especially a Harley. EVO the last of an era being able to tune with a screw driver. “Billy Lane” If I were you, which I’m not because I can *uck up a flash light, I would set up a business fixing and tuning all the Magneti Marelli EFI systems out there because there is zero support and to do a MM EFI delete can be expensive however most, 🤔 a lot of TC 88 owners end up doing a MM delete out of necessity because no one else knows how to make them work. Start a channel or get with a content creator and have them do a video of you fixing and tuning the MM EFI. I for one would love to see it done, not that I would understand it🤪😂 Get this, I have to pass on California registered TC 88’s with MM EFI because Komiefornia will not let me take off the MM EFI that has failed and has zero support and the only known fixes is to a Delphi EFI upgrade or an EFI delete and a carb replacement until now🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 There are thousands of us that need your expertise. My Roadking is approaching 23 years old , has the MM system still, 95” kit and tuner and a few other goodies, I’ve had very good luck with it, still have immediate throttle response and I’ve only had to adjust the tps Sensor one time In over 20 years, and she will still shit and get, so honestly I would have to be having severe issues to want to change to a carb..

Hello, Great video but I'm a rookie and need a little help. I have a 2000 road king. I pulled out the entire efi wire harness and added the thunderheart but I have a few questions. #1. Am I okay with completely removing the MM computer and harness? Will everything run off of the thunderheart ingition? I know to tie into the crank wire harness and keep the cam disconnected but what about the oil sender wire? Also, about the tank. I took out the guts of the tank. Does the wires from the tank to the fuel guage also get removed or can the fuel guage be saved and used somehow? sorry to sound like such an idiot. Watching so many different how to videos is confusing the hell out of me...

Hi Rich... thank you for watching the video... to answer your first question ..YES... the thunderheart will run the whole ignition system. You can remove the whole harness the ECM everything from the bike... I didn't do it in this video but it's better if you do that... only thing you need to connect is the crank sensor to the Thunderheart as you mentioned. I do not remember having to mess with the oil light wiring so you should be good there... However if you found that it's going through the ECM or through the harness you can just connect it directly because the oil pressure sensor wire provides just a ground ... and lastly... The fuel float should still work like before ... only thing you're going to remove is your fuel pump and everything related to it because now you just have a petcock. Hope this helps you... I am sure you going to love this conversion cuz the carburetor is trouble free once you have it dialed in.

Just look at a wiring schematic for a carbureted bike and mirror it, you don't need all of this. I did mine all by myself. Coil, Wires, trigger cup (for Evo's), Fuel petcock kit from pingel, ECM, VOES switch, intake, and a carburetor. I yanked 2 miles of useless wiring and saved Money by doing it myself. You must have a service manual with a wiring schematic in order to do this job or you'll be guessing.

So from everything I'm seeing here. To complete the swap I'm either going to need the stand alone ignition module or redo a bunch of wiring to get this thing to fire off? 2001 RK. Father in law bought it off a guy mid conversion. Already found some issues that have been corrected ( cams out one tooth and wiring not connected).

di i pull the 15 amp fuse for the factory ecm and 5 amp fuse for the fuel pump since i dont need them or just leave everything plugged in including the factory ecm after everything is done

remove pin # 6 from ecm or cut that wire it will get rid of the check engine light for the parts unplugged

I just saw this video and am doing. Same. Conv. On my 01 roadking. U state u did this with out the thunder heart ignition . did u just do the mods to the tank and add a carb kit . then just unplug everything else. From the old throttle body. Leaving cam sensor and old ecm plugged in as stock.

Also from. What i know if its a carb bike now you dont need a tunner cause its running off a carb now to gwt the most outta your upgrades you just increase the jet size in the carb. For more fuel for your mods ect.

I have replaced the Fuel Lines twice at 200$ plus each time..no Harley-Davidson dealer will work on this system..the after market GoodRidge fuel lines are your only hope..if the injection system fails..😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

I just finished it last night. The bike runs great! I still have to do some fine tuning but i went out for a ride with zero issues. Based on what I did this is what you'll need: •Thunderheart stand alone ignition system •Carburator (I highly recommend going with a Keihin cv carb) •Intake manifold for carburator •Pingel thread adapter and tank plug for Magneti Marelli- it says it in the product info on their website •22mm petcock * If you have any question feel free to message me

Yes...you can use stock Twin Cam Intake manifold for the earlier carbureted models if you are going to put the OEM Carburetor on your bike like I did in this video. If you going with S&S or MIKUNI carbs you will need to purchase the intake manifolds for those carbs. The only one thing about the OEM carbureted intake manifold...they have a hole on the top for sensor in them...so you can leave the sensor in it just unplugged or find another plug the seal this hole...hope this helps and please subscribe to help me out...thanks

That sounds like a great idea.... Simplifying the bike will make it dependable. The early twin cam carburetor intake manifold will fit right on...

Here is the link for the ignition system...They showing in the fitment chart only up to 2005 but I think that's wrong...you only use the wires from the crank sensor... the rest is just power, ground and the wiring to the coil...it is pre programmed plug and play but you can also find tune it to your specs later on...I like it and the price is GREAT! Yes...all wiring is included with the ignition ...great instructions...just hook everything up and that's it.

yes...just what you see in the video...few other small things like fuel line, hose clamps and don't forget the left upper engine mount with the choke bracket ...if you are handy you can modify the one you have on your bike now and add the choke cable mount to it

My customer loves the bike now! No problems with this set up...He uses this bike as a primary source of transportation so I would of heard about it if there was some issues. Also don't forget the throttle cables. If you don't like the unused wiring tucked in that frame cavity you can just get it all out of there...your choice. Just look for intake manifold for carbureted Twin Cam Harley...you can find them on ebay used. If you want to use Mikuni or S&S carburetor look for the intake manifold that is made for those carburetors. Hope this answered your question. People forget it costs like 3 thousand to convert to carbs, over 5 grand for the conversion to Delphi. I have a 99 ultra classic with the magnetti marelli but I haven't really had to much problem with it. Guy I bought bike from pulled baffles and I'm shooting flame out of cylinder 1 at high speeds. Idk. This is my 3rd harley and they are underpowered not going any faster than 80mph. Bottom line I like my bikes but honestly they are absurdly expensive to maintain especially when harley makes bad decisions on building them. This is not a easy job folks so be careful because harley dealers will charge you even more if they do it at all to work on something somebody already butchered.

it cost me 70 buck for the tank kit 600 bucks for new super e carb kit for twin cam i kept same ecm no stand alone ignition removed the fuel injection crap installed carb did the convertion on the gas tank bike started right up using factory ecm 509 cams in engine runs great total invested 670 bucks maybe 700 with shipping

I suggest finding an independent Harley mechanic, not a dealer. Are you saying your bike only does 80mph? Your bike isn't tuned right if that is all it will do.

Magneti Marelli EFI BLOWS! It's not a closed loop system, anytime you change ANYTHING on the engine (pipes, air cleaner, cam, etc) you have to re-program.
