In my part of the world, I can't complain about what HD dealers charge. I buy a good used HD that's already been upgraded with a stage 1 kit, pay a lower price than new, and get my servicing done by an experiened HD-trained mechanic. In other words, I can own a Harley Davidson without going near a dealer. I feel rather lucky.

Why is it our Aussie brothers have the best reviews/comments regarding Harley's ? Love this honest unbiased review. Yes ANY dealer can be a rip off, car, truck, bikes what ever. Like the man says Harley's have "soul" and are unique. You're paying for the "feel" , the experience and if you have to ask why a Harley then maybe you should look else where? I don't question why others ride foreign jobs it's their choice and I respect that. I agree they are expensive. But I truly believe "you get what you pay for". If you're buying a Harley to impress, which I know folks who have and then they complain, then again go else where. I'm on my second Harley a Road King Classic. When you climb on and hit that starter button? Ya...it's a feeling only a true Harley lover understands. Harley's ain't for everyone and I personally am glad for that fact! We don't need "posers and wanna be's" mucking up the ranks!

Bought a 2012 Vrod with 15000kms on it. First service with me I thought I’d take it to Harley and let the pros check it over. $566 for a oil and filter and “check over” I serviced the bike at home today, following the old service report they gave me for the service they did. $171 for oil and filter (genuine filter and SE SYN3 oil) and 1.5hr of my time. Harley Davidson is a rich man’s brand. If you wanna play big you gotta pay big. Learn to do the basics yourself.

As a consumer and as a person that has purchased four brand new Harley-Davidsons from a steelership I have to say that as a consumer we have the right to walk away when we feel that we're getting ripped off and we all have different views about value especially when you're not getting enough for your money. I bought my first Harley-Davidson new in 2002 then my second and my third in 2003 my 4th I purchased in 2006 and I still own them all till this day and I feel that I did get my money's worth out of them and that's why I decided not to purchase the latest and greatest just like all the other Harley owners that like to have the latest and greatest I'm just going to hang on to what I have because the newer bikes have just become unaffordable and actually unreasonable for me in my position in life at this point. But I will add that it's probably one of the best motorcycles in the world because of the fit and finish and the following and camaraderie of all the owners I love it and I don't think that I could get that if I purchased a different brand. Thank you for the good video

@@OldNotDead-Club I owned a late 90's era Road King Classic and I loved the bike. Eventually, I sold it and have owned several Japanese ADV, sport and naked bikes since. Recently, I decided to get another HD. Unfortunately, the price put me off....a new Road King msrp: $23,000 but wait, then there is the HD Surcharge of $1,000 then the TC charge $1,000 then shipping $750 (I live in the US), then dealer prep $750 so add $3,500 to msrp. In the end I decided to buy a Suzuki M109R BOSS for $15,300 with around $550 for shipping / dealer prep combined. The fit and finish was not worth the price point in my calculation. The fun factor difference is neglible as my bike is more powerful than most OEM HD's (128 hp and 118 ft lbs T). Thanks for the video

I believe that you can get a value from buying a Harley-Davidson because if you need emergency services, you can find a dealer fairly easily. Also, It appears that used Harley Davidson motorcycles are available at a very good price. If you want a cruiser or a touring bike, you can find a large selection of them on the web. Now on to the maintenance cost; I'm relatively new to the cycle world so when I got my first new bike 1K service, it was a shock. Now after a few years of experience, it's an expectation of reliable service and a badge of honor.

I took two aluminum Dyna/Sportster OE rims in to the local H-D in Cambridge, ON to have the old tires removed so that I could vapor blast , wet sand, tape and paint the two rims. I was planning on buying 2 new tires from the dealership after the paint and new bearings and seals were installed and told them that.. That dealer charged me $67.00 for about 15 minutes of labor. Thanks for shouting out my mates @that harley couple I've been riding HDs for almost 40 years and have 2 in the garage at this time. A '21 Icon Revival and a '19 Roadster I'm doing a café build on. Here in the US it's hit or miss on any given dealer. Most dealers are charging $5,000 over list price in mocked up fees because of the bike shortage here. Service comes down to have a good tech diagnose an issue and sort it quickly. Get a bad tech, and the bill will rise accordingly. My advise is seek out a good dealer to purchase from. Fine the master tech that works there and request the he/she perform your services when you make your appointment. Great video again. As a new subscriber I am playing catch-up so please bear with me. If any of you guys got ripped off by the dealer it was you who did it for self. Nobody had a gun to your head! Dealer relations is very important to this old guy. I had a Suzuki C50 setup with windshield and bags. Nice bike. Cost me about $9000. US when I was finally happy with it. I moved up to a new 08 flhtc 18 month latter for about 19500. Over twice the bike, more character, performance etc. 14 years later with 88000 miles on her I hit something on the road that punctured the engine case. I had a brand new 110 with cams installed for $9000. Do I feel ripped off ? Not a bit.....my choice and the took my personal check cause the new me from doing years of business. That's what you get from a great dealer relationship. All my choices never ripped off. Keep the videos coming. I noticed you said cold riding. It's 13 f degrees here in new England today! Ride safe.

I bought my 1st Harley from Route 66 Harley Davidson in Tulsa Oklahoma. Brand New 2021 Harley Davidson Road Glide Standard. I rode it home; it was leaking oil. I took it back and was told that from the factory they did not put o rings on the push rods. They fixed it. I wanted to put a header on it and was told by the service department that a header would void my warranty. So, I opted for the Stage 2 Torque Cam. Air cleaner, plugs, wires... pretty much everything else. After it was all complete, I was talking to a different mechanic and expressed my disappointment that I could not do the header without voiding my warranty. He looked at me puzzled and said "That doesn't void your warranty. Who told you that? I pointed at the other service guy and said, "he did" The other service guy stated that he did in fact tell me that but then recanted. I said "Well, let's put a header on it then!!" They were going to charge me another fee for another Dyna tune that I just paid for. You know, an extra 5 or 600.00 for their mistake. I ordered a seat and new handlebars, the seat came 1st, and when they put the new handlebars on a couple weeks later the reach was extremely uncomfortable. The bars were pulled back as far as they would go. They offered that I could sign a release form and they would remove pins that would allow the bars to pull back further. I decided not to do that. I started researching and discovered the seat they ordered was a daddy longlegs. I went back and showed them the seat that I had originally ordered, and the service writer told me they did not make that seat. I gave them the part number and they still insisted that the seat did not exist. I proved to them that the seat existed. They ordered the correct seat but charged me a 20% restocking fee to return the incorrect seat - another couple hundred for their mistake. I ordered a touring bag and bracket. I paid them to drill the holes and mount the bag to the bracket. When I went to pick up the bike the service writer told me that I had the wrong bracket (after the holes were drilled and it was mounted) and that I needed the Harley bracket because this one would not fit. He showed me how the bracket would not line up with the Harley docking hardware. I was not going to spend the extra money, so I loaded it all in my trunk and took it home. I tried to exchange the bracket and was told that "Without a doubt" this was the correct bracket. I took it out and discovered that the service writer was trying to mount it to the wrong docking points... really?!?!?!? At that point I had concerns that this "certified Harley mechanic" had been in my motor. Also on another note, In my opinion, Harley Davidson has created an attractive Nuisance with the BOOM Audio scam. If you buy a Harley with BOOM Audio, it is not 100% compatible with Blu tooth unless you purchase a WHIM (300.00+) But wait there is more!! Now you have spent the extra money to get the WHIM but guess what? It still won't work like you want with Blu Tooth... Only Harley/Sena Blu Tooth. Another couple of hundred bucks. So, to make your stereo functional with a helmet will cost you 500.00 to a 1000.00 + extra and it is still subpar. So, Harley's attempt to milk you out of every possible dollar has encouraged me who has never ridden without a helmet to leave it on many occasions because it is so inconvenient. I don't know how you feel about it, but I don't like being monetarily punished for wearing a helmet. Who knows, maybe helmets aren't part of the image. I like the bike, but my personal experience has tarnished their name for me. I don't like being scammed and taken advantage of. My experience with Route 66 Harley Davidson in Tulsa Oklahoma tells me 100% the dealership will try to rip you off.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you said there is little competition - the leader always controls the market. This means Harley are free to set whatever price they like. It also however allows other manufacturers to then overcharge for cruisers. Take BMW’s R1800 for example. It’s a real competitor to Harley and the price reflects that - it’s way too expensive when compared to other BMW’s but sits nicely in the mix with Harley pricing. The sin Harley commit by exploiting their dominance is to condemn all cruiser riders (regardless of brand) to overpriced bikes.

I had an Indian and part of the appeal was the great atmosphere at the Sydney Indian Dealership where they would put on great events to promote the brand and culture. Sadly they closed those dealerships down. Indians are now sold by independent dealerships, that scarcely put on any events, have pushy sales people and are not interested in promoting the Indian culture. Harley are much better in promoting their brand, keeping the customer’s interest going with their many events and having dealerships with a friendly atmosphere.

Just a couple of points I’d like to make on my first Harley in 1990. I’ve had 4 Harley Davidson or even call my son Harley it’s not just the price of Harley motorcycles. The clothing is so expensive, I have brought many Harley Davidson clothing products over the years. The price has just gone absolutely crazy. It doesn’t reflect the quality it doesn’t reflect anything different from the other manufacturers. In fact, some of the T-shirts have got less detail on them and yet the price does not reflect this There doesn’t seem to be any justification for some of the price rises on clothing and accessories. I love Harley Davidson, but I do think they’ve got an image problem with normal riders and that is not just me saying it well done for putting your perspective over.on here Have a good day.

First rule of economics is something is only worth what you're willing to pay for it!! You can always hope that you had gotten it cheaper but them giving you a price and you agreeing to pay it can in no way get termed a ripoff UNLESS you are a grown adult that's claiming you're not capable of making your own decisions and shouldn't be allowed to make those decisions. How about we be adults and who like I said just wished we could have got it a little cheaper!! You now have a Harley and road to burn don't tie a bunch of negativety to your instrument of freedom!! 😁

If you buy a printed t shirt from K mart $15-20 or buy a Harley t shirt @ the dealer for $70 not worth it really. I've owned north of 30 bikes in my life, most bought new, seven new Harleys included...My last Harley was a new street glide bought in 2015...I cringed when i bought it, mostly due to the silly antics and ploys used by the dealer....Getting them to quote a price was like pulling teeth....Now they won't even post a price...Typically a tactic used by the lowest iq used car dealer..( Note...not all used car dealers are crooked..)..That said, between the gross over pricing for both the bikes and the accessories, I chose to go a different route. Bought two new triumphs, (absolutely beautifully crafted machines)....For me, at 67 years of age and hundreds of thousands of miles, Harley has lost it's sheen and overall appeal...The image of American Steel and Iron, has been supplanted with millennial marketing and grossly overstated quality.....Just my opinion...Ride safe...

Interesting... this could be a long post. I purchased the Sportster S, It actually compares fairly well. On road in the USA it will cost $18,500 and $27,000 in Australia. At 70c in the dollar that is pretty close if you consider shipping internationally. I considered the Rebel 1100, but if you were to up the specs to match the Sportster S the price of $20,000 for the Rebel would go up by $5,000 (1100cc to 1250cc, TFT, phone connectivity, mapping on display, lean angle ABS and lean angle TC) Any Honda with similar specs starts at $25,000. Then consider the Goldwing/K1600/Roadglide... all of them start at $42,000. All tourers, all with similar tech/luggage package and yet all at the same price. Of all of the bikes mentioned, only the Harley has an extensive after-market that can customise your bike near on precisely to what you want. With the other bikes, if it is not quite comfortable after 1000KM then it likely never will be. It is not a car where you can adjust the steering and seat to get position exactly right.

And you only have essentially half the vehicle as a car there is no way I’m in the weather yet I pay the same amount for it as I would if I were out of the storm! I’m from the UK. I love all bikes including Harley so I’m not a Harley hater at all I’m realistic when it comes to my thoughts on prices. I’ve recently test rode a lot of Harleys some for an hour some for a day or two that I’ve borrowed off of friends because I want one. However it doesn’t matter what I test ride I can seriously say when I get off nothing has shouted out buy me. Compared to my Yamaha Raider and my wife’s Yamaha Stryker the HD just doesn’t justify me paying that much more for less of a bike. My bike is all metal it’s fast and it stops how it should I can pick a decent second had one up for less than £10000 so it makes no sense to me anyhow to pay double if not more for a bike which is quite frankly is not as good. Yes the Harley community is great no doubting that. Surly though Harley can’t use that as a justification on such high prices. @Old Not Dead Yes of course I did. And I have bought 3 brand new Harleys since 2019. My opinion is the bike are priced right "from the factory". The problem in USA seems to be huge dealership mark ups. Now I know the dealership needs to make a buck also and honestly i don't mind throwing them a bone. Like say 1k over manufacturer's suggested price. But some dealers (not all "SOME") have like 5 to7k over manufacturer's price. I think dealerships are sneaky with not posting the price of the motorcycle in their adds like (call for price). I feel like it's not easy on the buyer it's not transparent and truthful (and Harley needs more buyers) it's just uncomfortable. With all that being said I will be buying another brand new harley Davidson soon. I love them and I don't blame the manufacturer for the way "some" dealers act. Kinda sucks because I will be excited to get a new bike but the "PROCESS" is "EXHAUSTING" ..... Japanese dealership could have me in and out in an hour with no lies no sneaky shit no taking the bike back for warranty work "NO PRESSURE" to get the extended warranty or upgrade this or that.

At the end of the day, a Harley Davidson is a premium brand that comes at a premium price. Yes, there are cheaper bikes out there. Some may be “as good” from a reliability perspective or have similar features. This is true of most any product. An Acura cost more then a Honda, because an Acura is the premium version of a Honda. What do you get for that brand? Generally, a better buying and service experience, better fit and finish, a few premium bits (upgraded interior, maybe better sound, specialized paint or body upgrades) and the brand itself. Your driving an Acura not a Honda. Harley is no different. Do some dealers over price the bikes they sell or tack on unrealistic markups, you bet. So, go to another dealer and negotiate a price that makes sense based on the market. Here again, no different then any other product someone wants to buy.

I realize this is a small thing and that my ears can be short tempered, but in my mind, I have a HD with less than 7000miles on it and it's got a broke belt guard NOT a piston hanging out of an engine. What I should have heard was yes sir bring it right in we will take care of for you. I know I am just one guy, so I will tell you that I also heard it mentioned on the news, not sure if it was national or local, but it should give you something to follow up on.

For someone who is wealthly and wants a Harley I say get one. Are you being ripped off? not really. Do I think Harleys are expensive? yes. Myself I have a older Shadow 1100 I'm happy with. I have no interest in getting a Harley, but if I really wanted one, I'd get one. My advice is get the motorcycle that you want. There are plenty of brands, models and choices out there.

@@OldNotDead-Club 😂🤣 absolutely agree with your sentiments in the bonus about the positive energy. Of course our posts can’t all summarize our overall view on a topic, only what we actually type. I believe so long as Harley could sell motorcycles they should be pricing it however they want. In fact I’ve come to realize if your customer isn’t feeling the pain of handing over the money you probably aren’t charging enough 😂… especially for such a passion product like a Harley. That said, I love the bargain. I love getting ultra value for a reasonable price or what feels like a great price. I’d like to think the specials could have all the cool features of a CVO, minus the paint job, an upgraded suspension, be sold for the price of the current specials and Harley can still make enough money 🤣😂…. But that’s me being Scrooge cause I like a deal. I think that kind of value would hurt Indian. Or at least force Indian to produce a better fit and finished product. Cheers for engaging…. Appreciate you taking the time to create such content.🍻

Harley Davidson charge what the market is prepared to pay. Is that a "ripoff"? I'd say not. Are they a value proposition at that price point? I'd say absolutely not. It's one thing to compare them with a similar offering from Indian but try comparing them to an 1800cc. six cylinder GoldWing with a 7 speed DSG, electric screen, electric forward/reverse "walking gears", heated seat, grips and a parts catalogue that is absent of any performance or reliability upgrades for a a very good reason. Objectively, the Honda is a far better value proposition. There is no argument to the contrary whatsoever. But vehicle purchase's aren't an objective thing, they're subjective. Harley Davidson has known this for decades and they have capitalised on it better than any other manufacturer and it has bore them fruit that no other manufacturer can even dream of. At the end of the day, when you look in the mirror while you're brushing your teeth and are thinking quietly to yourself, ask yourself this question: "was that money well spent"? The answer will vary amongst individuals but if you answer yes, you made a good decision, regardless of the product. Are Harley Davidson a rip off? That's up to you and me to make up our own minds on.

Any dealer is going to screw you. Go to any dealer and you see the price on the bike. Lets say $12000.00 US for a used bike. You would think it would be $12000.00 + Tax and Registration. They will come back with a total of $2000.00 to $2500.00 over the price that was on the bike. They have all these BS charges. Classic bait an switch. When I go to Walmart and buy an item and go to the check out I expect to pay item price + sales tax. Not a fee for the janitor/person stocking the self/shipping to store/ECT. If you are buying a used bike private sale is the way to go. You will pay half of what it will sell for at a dealer. But you have to have cash. That's were the dealer sucks people in because they will finance it at 20% interest.

Prices too High? - There's lots of factors that determine selling prices. It comes down to what the dealer thinks the market will bear, vs what the customer is willing to pay. Best name in motorcycling? Only if you measure that in terms of marketing costs. There's lots of other brands which have top quality, but don't dump a ton of money to bolster their image in order to try to convince you to buy it... If you need to 'customize' your bike to make it 'perform' to your satisfaction, there's many other brands that will readily out-perform Harleys out of the showroom door, are more comfortable, and typically cost less. Once you over-come the HD-created delusion that Harleys are 'the best', you will soon realize so many other brands provide better value, more refined performance, and more owner satisfaction.

lol to some people only. I have friend with a ducati - it cost similar to my bike and he pays about x4 for his "same" mods. Sure his bike is faster 2nd gear gets you to 200 (km/h) He is cramped up even though he is shorter than me and can't really ride to far in comfort. Many of us believe in the saying. "better to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow" That's just one part of the "value" equation, I will have to do a video on the rest.

@@garymaclean6903 no that's not what I mean. marketing brainwashing is already in place for everything to a certain degree. We are all subconsciously taking everything in. and linking it with whatever identities we want to run with. We all perceive different things as valuable and the marketing is just how a company projects its product. I don't see it as a big deal. You just buy what you think is the right fit for you based on what you like and can afford - rather than somehow blame a company for good marketing. The product is actually good I have owned many different bikes from all brands for over 40 years.
