Sounds like you found your perfect bike. I traded my Sportster S in when the fuel pump went and bought the Pan America Special. Absolutely loving this bike. The performance is amazing and so is the handling. Got about 900 miles of twisty NC roads in last week and I’m totally satisfied.

Lol at all the smaller engines trying to say they have more than enough power without trying the 117 for themselves. I have a stage 2 88ci on my dyna and I have the ST with the 117 and they're not even comparable. I love my dyna and I shit on alot of bigger motors but I have it tuned to do so. The 117 has more torque throughout all the gears no matter what gear you're in and it drives soooo smooth. My buddy rode it the other day and couldn't believe the torque, even while in 6th gear doing just 65mph the bike wants to move. I'm a very aggressive rider and scrape my dyna all the time but with the height of the ST I have only scraped one time in the first 1k miles and I didn't really have to but I really like to lean on the twisties. If you are rider who is happy with your smaller motor, that's fantastic but don't hate on a bike you've yet to try for yourself, you just look petty.

Hey Ben! I agree 100% with everything you say about the 117. Man, this bike is so smooth. I can't wait until a few of my buddies get to ride and review it. (That video will hopefully be filmed soon). Both of those guys are pretty aggressive riders like you so I can't wait to hear what they say. Thanks for the comment and supporting the channel!

The only difference between the 114 and 117 is 3 cubic inches, the heads and compression 10.5/1 are the same. The CVO street glide has the same motor as your LR ST. The screamin eagle badges on the cylinder heads are stock heads with a badge on them. Now this doesn’t include the 114 to 117 kits as they come with forged mahle 11/1 compression pistons. A cam will really wake up the m8 motor. You just need to pick the cam that suits your riding style

I wouldn't say it is an air-cooled engine. Relies quite heavily on oil cooling...hence the heat big cooler in front. I just got my '23 FXLRS to 200 miles. So I tried a roll-on from 70mph in 6th. It takes a long time to get to 100. Definitely a torque monster but not a speed monster. I have a Yamaha R1 as well. I love it too. But that roll-on at 70 on the R1 would have me at 130 in a flash. I love the S and will probably get rid of the R1.

Bigger bore than both the 107 & 114 which helps to get maximum flow & cylinder fill from the stock heads. Sufficient compression. Want it to go like hell and retain warranty? No need for an expensive rebuild on this one. Have your dealership install these upgrades; SE Ventilator Extreme or Heavy breather extreme AC, SE 64mm TB & factory CNC intake. SE (roller) tappets, 515 cam, springs & adjustable pushrods. S&S Superstreet 2-1 with catalyst, SE tuner with stage 4 map. No need for pistons jugs heads which are expensive parts & lots of labor. Pick a dealership with a dyno in order to tune this properly. If they don't have one find another dealership. If you order this at or prior to 60 days of new bike ownership you will get 20% off parts & retain full MoCo warranty. Put the parts in with your bike loan for no out of pocket. This should easily make 120 HP & 130 TQ.

More than enough power for a Harley Davidson! In fact why would you need even that much? I have the 96 ci on my road king and it has plenty of power. If you want to go fast get a Japanese motorcycle. Isn’t going to help you in the corners. I’d still like to have one no doubt but with the roads up here a 96 can do everything a 117 can and more. I guess it all comes down to the rider and not the bike 😉

The M8 117 falls into the category (mostly) of over-hyped power in diminishing returns. Don't get me wrong, its a great power plant; however, its what some of us would call over-kill. The power plant (generally speaking) should match its load. On the Low Rider ST the power plant does not match the load. Just for reference (I could use lots of different bikes for the point) my Heritage Springer Softail has a dual cam 88b. the "b" is for "balancer" which eliminates much of the vibration at a cost of a couple of horse power. The 88b is 1452 cc. The 88b is perfectly matched to the Heritage Springer, and provides more than enough power for the bike & rider. The M8 117 is matched to the CVO mentioned in this video; well, the CVO is just too fucking heavy... its a real problem... and the 117 is a good (although dangerous) response to the CVO weight. The M8 117 is NOT matched properly (IMHO) to the FXLRst ... its like putting a HEMI super charger in a Toyota Camry. Yeah, you can do it, but why would you? The 88b would have been fine. Also, the 96, or the 103. Engineering is about correctly matching power to load... and the Low Rider ST is over-powered for its weight. Which, other than being dangerous, is also one of the reasons its price point is way too high. Engineering is also about balancing the price point against value. Harley-Davidson missed the mark on the FXLRst. The CVO is too fucking heavy, and the Low Rider ST is too fucking expensive. marcus

Marcus! How ya doing sir?! I certainly appreciate the information and your thoughts on the 117. I wish I knew all the specifics that you too about these engines. Good grief. It's a 720lb motorcycle with under 100 horsepower. You do realize that they have been making faster than Harley motorcycles since the 60s. The only reason I bought an ST was it felt like a modern motorcycle. I loved my springer, but it's not 1947 any longer. The ST isn't dangerous, it's adequate. And it's still much slower and heavier than my BMW boxer.
@TyFromTennessee2 жыл бұрын
@@theeddielyle I guess each person has different styles of riding and personal preferences. For some, the LRST might be too much power and for some not enough...and that's ok. We all have our differences.
@markh.harris92712 жыл бұрын
@@theeddielyle , I'll agree with your point about the Springer! I love mine too... never getting rid of her! No, my point about the 117 on the FXLRst is that the power is not matched to the load... whether its actually dangerous or not depends on how THAT is handled. My second point is that the bike could have had a 12K to 15K price point if they had toned down the power plant to something more reasonable-- matched. marcus
