A wise man once told me, "bhp is all about how fast you hit a wall, torque is all about how much of the wall you take with you". I just bought a Lowrider S, waiting for forward controls from HD, I'm not tall but old, the legs don't bend so well. Keep getting the smiles per mile.

@Leon Wilcox I drove trucks for 35 years, in that time the engines got bigger and bigger. 240 bhp for a series B ERF in early 1980s 32 tonnes, max weight then a few years later 38 t then 42t now 44t to 530bhp when I retired last year, not the biggest engines to be found in trucks just ordinary workhorses which many haulage companies chose, all of them had mind blowing acceleration if no trailer attached, The problem wasn't low bhp it was speed limiters, 62mph mid 80s 56 mph later and now many hauliers limit to 54mph to save fuel. Plenty of bhp but too much load and legislation is the real problem

My 2003 softail standard twin cam has about the same hp number as your 2021 detuned bike! It’s plenty. Mine arrived with Vance and Hines straight pipes that were too loud. I put the stockers back on for that HD sound. It’s a low rumble that shakes the ground without blowing out my ears. Perfect!

Congrats on passing your test & may you have many happy miles on the new bike. I’ve had my Street Bob for just over three years now & I still love it. In more than forty years of riding it’s the bike that still puts the biggest grin on my face (though the 50cc Honda Cub I bought in 1980 runs it a close 2nd; seriously). Got to agree with you on the marketing of your bike: should definitely have been named the ‘Street Bob Classic’, for that’s exactly what it is: a 107 SB with the classic black ‘n’ chrome look.

Nice simple video. No frills. No sales pitch. Just an honest review. I'm looking at returning to bikes after 26 years.Passed my test back in the 80's and spent 6 years as an instructor in the 90's.Stopped riding when I met the Mrs,so miss being on a bike.Had the big sports bikes and sports tourers CBR1000,ZX10,Z1000MK2.Also had a GS850 Rat bike and a GS550 Rat bike .Plus the usual GSX250R , GSX250, GP100 small cc stuff. Always wanted a Harley so I have been looking at the 2022 version with the MAG wheels and one with a Custom Paint job .After watching this I am convinced this is the bike I need. Also nice to see a bike being reviewed in my local area rather than on the big open roads of the USA. Thought it might be a bit big for the Leicestershire/Rutland roads.Just need to persuade the Mrs to let me have one. Wish me luck.

I have the same 107 standard. I got the saddlemen seat because as you find when yours is unrestricted , it has some serious kick and if you get on it in the wind with the little seat you better hold on tight. With the saddlemen it does it for you. It doesnt make the bike look to big in my opinion. I just think it needed a slighty bigger tire on the back from the factory.

Nice video, good idea. That H-D is a decent bike even as restricted, I totally believe it. Torque is much more important than he top-rev hp in everyday riding. And that was hilarious to look at the couple riding the whatever it was in the beginning. I first thought there was only one hanging his toes...

I recognise those roads , yes I'm from Leicester , I bought a couple of Harleys from Sycamore ( a Superglide 06 and a Heritage in 08 ) I sold them on and went to Triumph , been there ever since 2011 . I went from a Heritage to a Rocket 3 touring and then to a Thunderbird LT in 2014 which I still have . Good to see a lad your age into Harleys , makes a change , they get under your skin, I would still like to own a Harley again one day , I do like that softtail standard of yours apart from the front brake , single disc is not enough on a bike that heavy IMO . Road King is the best bike in the range all round IMO .

Understand the history of this model. In the mid 2000’s the standard was the entry level Softail in Harley’s lineup. You could upgrade to the Custom which gave you a black engine with polished cooling fin ends and a lot more chrome (I owned a 2008 model). There was no Fat Bob back then so, in the States there is some logic to the name “Standard”.
@MrDarcy-OlMan3 жыл бұрын

I rode my first HD yesterday. It was a 2021 Softail Standard. A visceral feeling of torque and connection to the road. Absolutely loved it. But my 57 year old body can't sit in that posistion for long. Also drove the new Sportster S and Nightster. They are both refined modern motorcycles. Now I need mid controls and an upright posistion. Maybe they'll do that soon.

I have ridden one of these and Harley have taken an entirely different approach to the sports- cafe racer. Most riders change the pipes(Vance and Hines)seat with padding, Z bars/ Risers, add saddle bags, better breathing air filter. For now it’s a very good choice for a novice in that it doesn’t encourage you to speed - just enjoy the ride. Later on you could add a stage 3 performance kit and go through life enjoying 1 road bike. Have a 4 -500 trail bike for off road adventure riding. A basic car like a small station wagon/estate car is handy- before the trail bike.
@MrDarcy-OlMan3 жыл бұрын
Wise words, yes something for the future. Unfortunately can’t do any tuning of the engine as it has to be restricted!
@MrAndrew19533 жыл бұрын
@@MrDarcy-OlMan . Annoying about the restrictions but that situation isn’t permanent and rather than changing bikes, which is expensive- with that bike, you can add parts that make it more enjoyable, run better. Even if Harley closed up, it’s a bike you could still get parts for , for a long time. It happens, I had one of the last Triumph Tigers in ‘82.

Based on the tracking shots in the video, the bike sounds lovely with its stock exhausts (and they look beautiful too). This is one stunning bike, got a taste for it myself. See that now they sell it withh cast wheels which are turn off for me. Concur with you, love it as it is, not much would change. Are those front blinkers metal or plastic? V&H is the way to go to
@MrDarcy-OlMan2 жыл бұрын
They are metal, yeah it’s an amazing machine. And yeah I agree the new cast wheels look horrible! The v&h pipes bring it to life!

Chrome vs black crackle finish. Well, I'm a fan of both but in the right place. On a bike like this I'd want chrome. Black crackle, when properly applied, is arguably more durable so better suited to Adventure and dirt bikes and commuters being ridden year round in all weathers IMO. On the licensing front, having passed the bike test almost 40 years ago, I was totally out of out of touch with the latest regs so read up on them and what a load of tosh! No doubt some desk bound bureaucrat thinks it makes motorcycling safer.

I think it’s brilliant, depends how confident of a rider you are. Have you got any experience on any bikes?

Great real world test as always. Harley Davidson nice looking and torque over HP everytime. A single disc on a 300kg bike is not a safety feature. Shame Harley's are stupid expensive. Yesterday's technology and tomorrow's prices. Best part of twice the price of a Triumph and definitely not twice the bike.
@MrDarcy-OlMan3 жыл бұрын
Just a joke about the safety feature lol. They’re adequate anyway. Personally I feel they give more of a sense of occasion but that’s just me. Glad you like the reviews!

I've got a 2007 Standard. I like the duck tail fender on it better that the "fingernail" fender they currently use. It also came with a 200mm rear tire.

How much did it cost? Insurance bike rd tax etc if you don't mind me asking
@MrDarcy-OlMan3 жыл бұрын
Tax was done by the dealership as it’s new, cost me £12,250 (I got a discount for working there) plus £1500 for insurance (third party fire and theft) so about £13,750.

Love my 2020. Added a cruise control because of a shoulder issue. Have a Saddelmen Solo seat because the stock seat killed me after about 40 minutes. Finally, I added a Motherwell luggage rack and sissy bar, as I do commute to work and need a place to secure a bag.
