Harley Davidson Tri glide? Freewheeler? let's talk about it...

I went to my local Harley Davidson dealership to see a few motorcycles. Which one or ones have caught my eye, you ask? Well we will discuss it in this video.
I ride a 2000 Harley Davidson (HD) Road King FLHR. The Old Bike and I take road trips of long distances and some rides that stay within the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area to cruise around town. I will sprinkle in some “man shed” talk about upgrades to the Old Bike as well as conversations about my “motorcycle wish list”.
I keep it simple: I ride a motorcycle and this channel is about motorcycles because that is what I like to talk about. I love my Road King which obviously gives me a Harley bias, but I like all kinds of motorcycles and previously owned a Can Am Spyder, so respect will be shown to all brands and types of motorcycles and riders, even if the motorcycle isn’t my favorite.

I was told when you start thinking about putting your feet down at a red light etc it might be time to go to a Trike. So true!I converted my Ulta Classic to a Trike and we feel much safer on it. I am 86 and still going strong. Did Rt 66 2008 and Glacier Yellowstone Southwest corners ,etc. Enjoy the ride!

Kudos to you for "knowing when to hold-em". 86 years young and not only feeling good, but feeling good enough to ride a motorcycle is a blessing! I'm in my late 40s, so I haven't reached the point where my leg/arm strength is on my mind. However, I think often that if my wife was on my Road King with me and something happened, my options to keep her safe would be limited. The tri-glide or freewheeler gives me another "out" if she is with me. Godspeed

You may want to consider what I did. I converted my Road king to a trike. I put a Voyager trike kit and a Motor trike mechanical reverse on mine for around 7k. My son and I did the work it was fairly straight forward. Works great and allows my wife and I to continue to ride together. Just a thought

I have a 2019 tri glide and the first thing I put on was a mid step from dk custom. Best thing I ever did.

Thanks for the tip. I just watched an installment video of the mid step on a 2020 tri-glide. Did seem a little "pricey" but seems to be of great quality.

You might be interested in the Harley Davidson RG3 it is a freewheeler with a road glide fairing on it. You will be getting all the bells and whistles, stereo, gps. You have to be careful about buying a Harley that is stripped down and adding stuff to it. I have done it in the past and found out it was actually cheaper to buy it dressed the way I want it. Also keep in mind the free Wheeler chassis is the same as a triglyde, you can actually take a triglyde body and bolt it on to a free Wheeler chassis it's only six bolts. Good luck on your project.

Believe me, we wanted to go with the Road Glide 3, but we just couldn't make the numbers work in our budget. And I agree, the aftermarket parts are never the fitment of genuine HD that come from the factory. I'll be honest that I have learned that through trial and error. Thanks for checking out the video. Thank you for checking the video out...yeah, I wouldn't be able to enjoy the ride on my Road King with her back there. I would be thinking about tire pressure and other hazards the whole time. Godspeed

I had to figure things out too.. I just don't trust my left leg anymore when planting it while I have my better half on the back.. So after Ocean City bike Week this year I knew I had to change something.. I looked at a lot of Tri-Glides and ran through the money I wanted to spend, issues HD was having on some of the years with their TriGlides and I also know I really did not want ABS nor a new bike with a Warranty that a lot of dealers you need to fight with and wait for months to get your bike fixed.. I have a 2013 Ultra Classic.. I have it where I really like it, and I love the radio, I do not need flashy, just need it to work right.. after looking and seeing 2013 Ultra Tri-Glide's going for 29k, I decided to take my 2013 and put a Conversion Trike kit on it from CSC.. (California Sidecar.) I have seen no one complaining about them, the kit I want runs 19k.. I think next year having a Trike, people will need to pry me off of it.. Best of luck in your searches... I have both the RT Limited Spyder and Freewheeler. I couldn't decide what I liked more. But the Freewheeler is fantastic. But I don't like/want music when I ride. The Tri-Glide is more "touring" and the Freewheeler is more "sporty" in my opinion. The 114 is amazing AFTER a full stage 1 upgrade. I did the S&S exhaust and intake and power vision tune. I don't barely ride the spyder now

That would be an awesome dilemma to have to decide which to ride. With the upgrades that you have made to the freewheeler, it will be hard not to ride it more. It is customized the way you want it. Godspeed

@@oldbikenewman I also changed the oem suspension to legend and the 1,5" lift. Friggin bike handles like it's on rails now.. what a difference OMG

@@macwiller2105 if you don't mind me asking, do you ride solo mostly or with a passenger? If so, do you have to adjust the suspension based on weight?

What's up my brother? I just wanted to let you know that I have a 2020-Harley-Davidson-TRI Ultra Riverrock Grey and Black. I love it and I'm 6ft 3ins tall. I changed out the handlebars from stock to 14in LA Chopper apes. I think that you and your wife will love the Trike.

Appreciate that! I was wondering if maybe they weren't a good fit for taller folks because of the few that I have sat on made me feel like I was crowded on the tank and that was without my wife sitting behind me. Godspeed

I don't know much about the tri glides but I know 18 and newer they make tremendous right hand turns

I have 2021 tri-glide ultra and other trike riders I've talked to have the same problem as I do. I have a hard time finding neutral when I'm stopped. Why is that and can that be fixed

I'm not sure, with my freewheeler, I find neutral a lot easier than I do with my 2000 Road King. Now I do have a heel-toe shifter, so that may make a difference, too. Godspeed

Try adding a heel shifter. I have one on my 17 and finding neutral is never a problem.

😂yeah the prices are "out of sight", I saw a used CVO tri-glide at my local dealer and it was on sale for $50,000 😲. Hopefully with the newer models being released there will be some good deals on late model used trikes. Patience is key in this game for sure. Godspeed
