I love road trip, thanks for the ride. We did Illinois this year to visit family. Such horrible volatile storms both ways. I swear we hit a small tornado. Not going that way again.

I think regarding the abandoned part of the road you commented on, Route 66 was probably a 4 lane highway in parts when 55 opened. It just wasn’t limited access like an Interstate. When they didn’t need all 4 lanes to carry traffic on 66, they abandoned half of it in order to reduce costs. My theory, anyway.

FYI Route (Root) 66 was a popular TV Series from 1960-1964 where two fellas (Buz & Tod) travel Root 66 with their 1962 Corvette convertible. Also the song Route (Root) 66 was originally composed in 1946 “get your kicks, on Root 66...”

Have you ever been a HOG member? They seed you a map of the entire US highways. That would of been good for this trip. Lol you guys are doing it. So jealous right now. Safe travels. Was on that highway 2 weeks ago coming from Chicago to Kansas.
