I used to enjoy and thrive off being different and being unique. But since I’ve started watching tutorials, how tos, and “things you shouldn’t do” videos, I’ve somehow lost my own way. This isn’t just plant videos, it’sALL kinds of videos. It’s no shade to content creators, I absolutely love youtube and I will continue to watch them but need to remember to do whatever brings me joy AS WELL even if it’s unpopular or the opposite to what’s everyone else is doing. But it seems as an audience we also do the same to content creators!

This!!! I find myself doing this all the time. Like if someone does a video on plants they hate and I have one I am questioning the plant, and think bad about it. Or even with house decor when people make fun of other decor that’s not there style it makes me question my home choice🥲😂

Not for nothing but the link between you making choices based on your own happiness and the way your content feels back to ‘itself’ again cannot be a coincidence. I’ve been LOVING your content again and it’s felt so much like the early days of being involved with PlantTube and how at home that made me feel and I’m so happy to see you leaning in. I have always said when you asked about the direction of your content that it’s at its best quality when you can tell the creator loves it, too. And I think you’re finding your way back to that and I’m just LOVING it all. ❤

I love your sincerity (I tried typing a word that doesn’t exist - sincereness - and autocorrect changed it to ‘sincere mess’ which I also love! 😅) being genuine and honest is what I appreciate in KZbinrs and influencers, so your conversation around being what the internet wants you to be was amazing, not stupid at all!!!

I was showing your videos to my fiancé saying, she is my favorite because she is different and always herself. The messy house you are talking about is one of my favorite things on your videos because it makes me feel stress free. In today’s world it’s so hard to keep up with everything that people/internet expects from you, so whenever I was feeling overwhelmed I would watch your videos to get inspired to be myself. I’m so so glad that you are finding back your identity and being yourself again. You might not know how much people including myself love the real you. 😘❤

I love that you realized that being yourself and doing what makes you happy is more important than trying to appease the internet! You're never going to be able to make everyone happy so you might as well make yourself happy first and then spread that happiness and joy around as much as possible and that is exactly what you do! I am drawn to your channel because you are experienced and knowledgeable of course but more so because you have so much joy for plants, are more relaxed about your plants and how you display them and you are different from every other plant channel on KZbin. You don't have to have the perfect Instagram house, hair, clothes and makeup to grow beautiful plants and be a beautiful person inside and out, that makes you relatable and people are drawn to that. Keep doin' you boo! 🌿 ♥️ #randomandplanty

Only do what makes u happy Harley, don't worry about what others think. It's your life! Live it to please you! Much love & hugs... ❤️🤗❤️🤗❤️🤗

I needed this, SO bad. I’m a new sub of yours and THIS video just made you my favorite KZbinr. I’m also a new plant lady, and have been struggling to find, “my style”! Why does there need to be a “style”?! You made me realize that there doesn’t need to be a certain style if a person doesn’t fit into one particular theme. Which, I don’t! I like modern, rustic, mid-modern, unique things… anyway thank you for being open and vulnerable. You really have inspired me!!! Harli, I so enjoy your videos! This one spoke to me. Although I am not on the internet, many people make fun of my house plants. To many, to crowded, to much work. I ignore them of course. I've excepted I am not a minimalist. I have my house as a jungle. My house should reflect me. And it does. My favorite thing to do is rehabbing house plants. Enjoy what you do. I've been doing this for over 50 years. I'll never stop.

For the first trimester of my current pregnancy, I totally had that same "I just feel like getting rid of all my plants" feelings, and I dod the total minimum amount of care to keep them alive, and now I'm 16 weeks along and yesterday I finally got around to potting up a problem box full of plants and I was just BUZZING with happy endorphins from enjoying looking at all the new growth and all the cool little things you notice and get excited about when you grow plants, and im so thankful I didn't get rid of anything 🤣 We all go through seasons and things are always changing, just do what you can right now and enjoy today. If plants are being stressful, take a step back. Plants are resilient and can bounce back 😁

I'm living for those big clear pots! I like to use water bottles with the top cut off on the rare occasion I use one and I collect them from friends and family. I pretty much try to use any container that would just end up in a landfill even if I were to recycle it, cream cheese containers, the cups from those plastic trays muffins come in, Kraft Parmesan containers are one of my favourites because they are clear, a perfect size for cuttings and sturdy. I love being able to transplant my cuttings into a clear pot and see the roots growing, you can see if they are happy and healthy and judge whether they need to be transplanted or watered so much more easily, it is so magical to see what's going on beneath the surface of the soil or Spagnum Moss, so being able to keep them in clear pots for there whole life is such a great idea! 🌿🪄

I tried all the internet plant crazy trends but realized I didn’t enjoy trying to make tropical plants to thrive in my super low humidity so now my collection is full of the plants that have fallen out of favor but were popular in the 70’s. My Norfolk pine and false Aurelia are stars, snake plants are cornerstones, and I can’t wait for my holiday cactus to get decades old! That is my joy now, watching my plants mature and grow instead of growing the collection.

I just got back into plants this year. I was so overwhelmed with plants I’ve never heard of and how to take care of them. According to YT videos I was doing it all wrong. So I started doing thing like they said to do. It didn’t work for me so I’m back to doing things my way. Another thing I found out watching videos is all of the plants I was suppose to have in my collection so I bought so many plants that now I am overwhelmed with plants. I am going thru my collection and getting rid of plants that I just don’t care for. I think anyone getting into the plant hobby should watch this video. Have a great day.

There is always room for improvement in every aspect of our lives but when our core is shifted, that's where the problem comes in. Remember, there's no such thing as a houseplant. There are only plants that adopt to captivity in our homes. And, when we start treating them as such and try to mimic THEIR habitats is when we have a happy coexistence. I'm here for a happy Harli! I love listening to you talk about your plants, watch your journey, and just share in our love for plants. I like to think that my style is unique to myself and I love to see how others do it differently, and take tidbits here and there, and honestly the weirder the better! 😉 I really enjoyed this honest candid talk. You always keep it real and I admire that... That's why I look forward to seeing the next video you upload. When you went on hiatus I really hoped youd come back and I'm so glad you did but its totally understandable... life happens. People are growing too. All the best. 💚

Great video!! I remember having small kids & being a stay at home mum, I lost my identity too, there’s hardly any time to think of yourself sometimes. I can’t imagine going through Covid with toddlers. Don’t worry you’ll be fine, looks like you’re doing a great job juggling it all. Xx

I'm so glad you found your joy again. I'm in love with "clutter" too. I like my plants to be bunched up and living off of each other. It's really hard when so many people are telling you to do this or do that. Let's all do what makes us happy and take inspiration from being different!

I think it’s the right attitude, I’ve just started taking care for plants in a serious way and I love watching planty vids of almost any kind but a lot of KZbinrs all have the same plants some of which I really don’t like and will never get! I understand the community thing and everything but following the crowd is not for everybody and you have to do what you really enjoy doing🤩🤗

So happy for you, Harli. You go girl! Be messy, be unorganized, be a little bit "cluttered. " I let my plants live near the best light and don't bother with the whole aesthetic thing too much, either. Let the chips land where they may honey. It's so much less stressful that way. For what it's worth, I like the random look you've got going on with your plants!

Harli! I love to see this! Your little jungle house was an inspiration to start my plant collection. Anything you do you always make it interesting and it feels like I'm just hanging out with my bestie talking about our houses. Like when my sister comes over and I show her all the new little decorations I got for the house... that's the feeling this video gives me. You sounded so happy showing your dresser in your room! That made ME happy! You're so creative!

I relate so much to the “I just use so much potting mix”. Gosh, potting mix gets so expensive with bigger pots!

I totally get what you said about trying to fit in the internet, I don’t make content but I also think I’ve subconsciously done the same thing. Instead of keeping to my own style I was trying to copy what I saw on SM. I made everything grey at one point and it made me depressed, I ended up HATING my house and through covid, I wanted to move so bad. But now I’ve redecorated to my taste, I’m much happier

Same. People are trying to "modern farmhouse" everything that now I hate farmhouse. I use to love farmhouse style and lived in an actual farmhouse my childhood years, which looked nothing like modern farmhouses on IG. Now I'm trying to find my own style instead of being a Joanna Gains copycat. 😊

Oh, I get it, 100%, Harli. Yes, your identity is tied into your social-media image and I understand the need to please viewers, now that this is your full-time job. But, we mustn't forget why we fell in love with you in the first place. Your passion for plants, caring for them and updates on your favourites. Focus on you, what makes you happy, what helps you grow as a person. Film when you feel like it but you don't have to film every time you do something planty. Let your home reflect who you are and don't let trends or expectations start tampering with your space and how you want it to be , otherwise it will no longer be yours.

Among all plant you tubers you are my favorite. there are lots of things i love about you! you are funny, you are you😍 dont pretend anything, you are not like other fancy plant keepers that have all the fancy new plants on earth. i went through the comments lil bit and noticed how others liked you and what u mentioned in this video too. It really is something coz not a lot of ppl realize it let alone talking about it. do what ever you like the way you like it and we will support ya😘
