Harlow’s friend did a nice job on the tail! A suggestion for flat classes….always have the loop in your reins and your crop to the outside so that from the center, the judge sees a clean line from hands to bit. It really makes a difference, and it quickly becomes a habit

Hi from Australia! It is currently 1am lmao Have you guys gotten pops checked for kissing spine? The way he is with the jumps reminds me of what happened to one of mt close friends 1* Eventer who suddenly went sour with jumps. Refusals left right and centre no matter the height… it took her almost 3 years to FINALLY figure out it was kissing spine. For context she’s had him since she was young and he is in his early 20s now and it had never been a problem before x

This is true! I’ve ridden a horse like that so basically it’s not good for her to trot or canter or jump with me on her back but other wise it’s fine!!! (As in I can only walk on her)
@5foot3rodeo55 ай бұрын
@@Horselovers3456 there are some fantastic rehab options for kissing spine horses now x there are plenty of tools and excersises to help strengthen their backs to manage any weakness and pain xx obviously you’re right they can be limited to what they can do comfortably… but to me it just looks like textbook kissing spine with pops. I hope by some miracle they either see my comment and take steps to rule it out or they have someone around them that suggests it x

Hi Harlow family, I’m a registered veterinarian technician for a large animal practice mainly horses in the United States . I’ve watched your jumping career with popcorn and it seems to me that something is causing him pain when he jumps. I would recommend doing a study on all 4 of his legs, hips and spine to see if you can locate the source of his pain. Normally, horses that are sound won’t refuse jumps or buck when asked to jump. There is definitely an underlying problem going on with those areas that I mentioned. I hope you can find out what’s going on with him. Popcorn deserves a full work up to get to the root of the problem. With that being said, I enjoy your channel and family. I’ve been a Harlow fan for 3 years now and I love the content you put out. Take care and have a wonderful show season this year. Kim
@maryjackson2586 ай бұрын
I agree completely. I know you take great care of Popcorn and he has had some veterinarian work done to assess his problems but I am not sure if it has been complete enough to assess the problem. We all love Popcorn (and Harlow) and wish to see him at his best xo

I sadly have the same feeling, even though they had him checked in the winter.. something does seem to be bothering him.
@HarlowLunaWhite6 ай бұрын
Thank you so much. He has had a full investigation with one of the team GB vets and they found no issues at all. He jumps easily 70-80cm at home (a course) with no refusals at all. He picks and chooses what jumps he will do that he hasn’t seen before, usually jumping them on a 2nd attempt after a closer inspection. He’s only been back jumping for a couple of months so we’re still keeping a close eye on his behaviour and seeing how things go. No expense is spared on his wellbeing. X

Well said. Some ponies are just quirky fellows and can spook and look at random jumps and take you unawares!! He just looked like he needed a good look first and was enjoying himself during the round

In reply to the comments above…all you need to do is watch some of the videos taken at home and you will see Popcorn being a perfectly happy pony, jumping small fences, higher fences, oxers, combinations, etc with nary a problem!

Happens to the best of us! My old pony was extremely similar to Popcorn - needed to be supported every step of the way when jumping - I needed to keep my leg on, hold my reins and set him up properly with a good stride otherwise he wouldn’t be jumping it! All I can say is it’s very difficult but it’s ultimately the difficult ones that make you strong and a better rider. Keep going Harlow ❤

I’m wondering if some of popcorn’s refusal’s might have to do with his eyes and that eye injury that he had at Forest Oaks. The shadows on some of the jumps very well may account for how he is seeing and choosing to protect himself. He is not afraid and he does well over the jumps, his refusal doesn’t appear to be the jumps. It’s just a thought, because I do believe that he really does enjoyi being there and a part of all of the activities. The horse lov s you Harlow, and enjoys being with and I do believe would do what you ask if he wasn’t having a problem. I know he test your patience, but you appear to be handling that well. I’ve enjoyed watching you grow as well as your working relationship with the ponies. Well done Harlow, we’ll done mom.💕

I fell off my horse in a show. Super embarrassing. The entire day was just bad. I got there late and didn't have time to warm up. My horse was in a halter class then his riding class was next. I didn't have enough time to tack up it was a new saddle and pad. It loosened up during the show, and it slipped and I fell off. It was all a disaster before 9 am. We all have bad days sometimes. From now on, if I get there late I am just going to scratch the class. I know how disappointing it is but you handled it well Harlow. Popcorn seemed really agitated in the last class. I could tell it wasn't going to go well.😢

My Dad was not a horseman at all. He was, however, an MP in the US Army. An officer. He saw me proper cleaning my hunt seat saddle late one night before my very first riding show ever. He offered to clean it for me and sent me to bed. I did not consider even saying anything about *how* to clean it. Well...my tack looked amazing. I got on at the show and went to warm up and...uh oh!!! Spit-gleaming shine from cantle to pommel; FULL seat! My red chestnut Arabian mare full on horsey laughed as I got power-launched straight backwards the minute she popped into the air in a baby rear (something I had sat just fine many times before). It was like falling backwards off a cliff: vip-BAM! LOL!! Pretty sure I broke at least one vertebrae-the lowest one actually. It took at least two months to sit comfortably (sometimes it still hurts-about 34 years later!).
