One of the biggest aggravations for us loggers is these sawmills, like Wade's, will go out and bid the stumpage through the roof, giving more for the tree standing, then if we cut it down and haul it to their mill. Now they set a standard of what timber is worth, even though it is not, that all landowners think they can receive for their timber. Unbelievable, and makes no sense whatsoever. Now it is these downturns that will put some correction to that, but some of these sawmills are still bidding the timber price up, while they are giving us nothing for the logs we haul into them. And yes, Wade has done a very good job explaining the elementary goings on of a sawmill.

Best video you've done so far Mr. Wade. A lot of good information you gave us. As a former carpenter/framer, I had no idea how complex the sawmill really is. Too bad someone can't come up with a way to recycle plastics into cants and cut 'em into lumber.
@LoggerWade4 жыл бұрын
I'll say like this one thing people dont realize is timber is like a garden if ya want it to stay healthy you got to manage it left totally alone it gets stagnant and fires get started

How in the world do you keep that place that clean ,I know you had company ,but unless you just never use it I don't even see any saw dust anywhere! I know I'm pretty late but seeing you guys together is pretty cool! Love the way you give your employees credit for what they do! Thanks for the video !

This was so much information about how the logging side works for a company that cuts the tree down and proccess it at their own mill. In my area of North Bay,Ontario Canada, our paper mill closed down in 2008 or so, and ever since then the logging has came to a stop, because the closest mill is 2-3 hours away in either direction, and it doesnt make sense to harvest the wood and throw it on a truck because the money just isnt there, but all around the mill in that town logging is booming. Cut throat buisness. Thanks for the video Logger Wade!

That saw filers room looks just like the ones I used to deliver saws to at different area mills. I miss going to the mills to deliver and pick up materials. Always really good people to talk to! Todd the retired trucker.

Alot of board feet in a day! I have only get to see bits and pieces of the mill in vidjas.. cool to see the whole setup... Impressive! Good to see Dirt Perfect and The Harmless Farmer! Great Vidja Wade!

Wade this would be the best video made of the mill due to you only concentrating on the commentary and not having to video as well special thanks to Mike doing the videoing for you as well was a great tour and explaination of the mill I'm sure Harmless Farmer was impressed as I was great to watch.
@wallaceeverett39273 жыл бұрын
Very impressive Wade. I have seen a few of the mill vids and thought it would be great to have your set up;;;; BUT I have a lot less in my mill set up and don't have any of the headaches that you have. Of course I have a portable band mill set up that cuts 36 inch by 21.5 feet and have made $49 and hour and the mill I have I built for $1500. The 49 that I made was at 25 cents per board foot. Now if I saw I think I'm going to charge 45 cents.

Sorry, I am late to viewing this... Wow! Mr. Wade I have been around various mills (lumber, plywood etc.,), and always jump at the chance to get a guided tour. They have generally been very informative and educational. However, you cast a whole different light on the business. Your tour and narration are on a whole other level. I wish this video could be viewed by much of this country's population, and they could see and hear what a small business is up against... Thank you very much... P.S., Hey Mr. Dirt Perfect, no problem with audio levels when Mr. Wade is the guy talking... Good camera work sir...
