Love this. At age 13 I was a flagger in south Texas. I could work three Supercubs at a time on foot. Covered in malathion daily. I’m now 73, with bad degenerative disc disease…makes me wonder. But I loved it. It was so fun. And yes, I went on to become a pilot, but not a crop duster.

@alphaforce6998
@alphaforce6998 Жыл бұрын
@@HarmlessFarmerAndyDetwiler How would he be exposed to these chemicals? Explain that. You are spraying them out of the back of the plane; is that mist going to do a reach around and come back into the cockpit? Or do you deliberately vape them before takeoff? And who said that these chemicals are intended to kill; as you have shown on your multiple accounts, they are more likely intended to lower IQ to serviceable levels.

Yep, I think the 602 would be doing good to make 200 mph empty and normal working speed is 150 or less. I managed the ground crew operations for a friend who was operating 3 aircraft, a 402, 502, and an 802. The 802 would break 200 but he didn't operate at that speed whether he was spraying or fertilizing. I went for a back seat ride with him once in the 802. That was interesting.

I spent 36 years in aerospace manufacturing just retired but mostly military and commercial. Never got into the ag side of aircraft. I think that is an Air Tractor 802. They run the big Pratt Whitney engines rated up to around 1200 hp. They are the Cadillac of spray planes and I think the biggest spray plane flying. That isn't the standard prop. I think it could be an aftermarket upgrade. Anyone correct me if I am wrong as I said not too familiar with the ag planes. Kylie your Dad was a man among men and I think he would loved to have seen you sitting in that seat. Thank you for continuing what he started...

Way back in '85 & '86, I was a mixer/loader/truck driver for a father and two sons team in Ankeny, Iowa. They had two of those Pipers and one Ag-Cat biplane (that was a beast!). It was a great job and great pay for the time and that helped offset my expenses for flight training as well. Many times, I would be parked out on a gravel 4-way intersection and they boys would land right on the gravel road and pull up and while I would mix 'n load, they'd grab a sandwich and while fueling, I was also their windshield cleaner and boy there were many-many bug splats to clean as you can imagine! This brought back cool memories! Thanks for sharing!

Hey Tommy, I spend my summers flying with an ag operation that has both aircraft and helis in their fleet. They call me up in July every year and I fly my plane across the country to help out (it's a 602 like in the video). Anyway, there are a few situations where a heli is faster, and that's primarily when you have small fields close by, the rest of the time heli is a better option is when the field is sensitive (surrounded by housing developments) or dangerous (lots of powerlines). Basically a heli can do a small field faster, but they can't keep up with a plane when fields start getting bigger than about 30-40 acres. If the field is skinny and only needs a handful of passes, a plane will be faster than a heli...it all depends on the shape, really. A heli can get closer to powerlines and houses simply because they're smaller and fly slower, some of the tighter spots in a field I just can't get down into without tagging trees or wires in the process. I'm flying twice as fast or more with a plane twice as big, so physics isn't on my side when obstacles are all around the field. For about 75% of the fields though, anything bigger than 40 acres, a plane will get it done faster with a better spray pattern. That percentage can be a little more or less depending on the area, whether it's densely populated with small fields or wide open with big 400+ acre fields. I get it though, the heli guys you're using have to sell their service to stay in business and you have to take their word for it, plus you may have small or irregular fields that are better suited to helis. The guys I fly for offer either option to the farmer and charge the same flat rate, most farmers prefer the plane.

Where I used to live the plane would drop down right over my house at 6am (moist air, no wind), floor it while spraying the corn, then literally stand the plane on its tail pulling up at the end of the run. Then it would turn around sideways and dive in for the return shot, standing on its tail again at this end. A beautiful thing to watch. it was a long time ago, but in my mind's eye I see a biplane, and yes it was bright yellow too.

A few years ago, I got to trouble shoot a Motorola (non-avionic) radio having issues interfacing with the on board audio in an Air Tractor 602. Really cool aircraft. I had to pull several exterior panels to chase wiring. That cockpit is really tight for me at 6'2". The product tank is actually between the cockpit and the engine so the center of gravity doesn't shift much as the tank empties. There is a slot in the dash where you can see how much liquid is in the tank.

You said Marysville If it’s Kansas I’ve seen you guys many times. I’ve always enjoyed watching the sky tractor at work and so far you have not over sprayed my sweet corn and killed it.

Great video Kylie you had showed all phases of how the Fungaside was sprayed on the Corn crop, and filling the Turbine Spray Plane, it had the GPS marker it it also makes it easy to spray the paddock evenly, Kylie you are your Dads Daughter, hopping in the Turbine Aircraft to see in the the drivers chair, good on you Kylie, I think you would make a great Pilot, on that note Cheers & Best Wishes to you All, Regards Trevor.W.Bacelli. Those Air Tractor's are such bitchen planes! And in the hands of such an awesome pilot, its just magical to watch! I dont get to see crop dusters much out here in the desert, but I do get to watch them 80's do their thing at the wild fires! Living my best La Vida Loca here in south eastern Arizona
