Kafi is a raga in Hindustani classical music. It corresponds to Kharaharapriya in Carnatic music.
Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande classified most ragas into ten thaats; Kafi thaat is one of them. The raga Kafi is the principal raga of its thaat. It is a more recent raga; according to Bhatkhande, the name of the raga first appears in the Raga Tarangini of Lochana Pandit, who lived in the Mithila district around the 15th Century CE.
Raga Kafi has a direct lineage with the folk music of India. Folk music in Tappa, Hori, Dadra, Kirtan and Bhajans from different parts of India have been composed in this raga.

It’s on behalf of all artists who sincerely work hard for melody and rythm, I want to say this: I am surprised to find a large number of thumbs down 👎 signs!!! It’s a disgusting sign of your mind and soul. My request to those negative souls is stay away from these top classical arts if it is not for you. Likes dislikes are personal so you can opt for any options, but don’t put these signs on any ragas,songs and performances by any artists. These genre of artists are globally respected, honoured and loved by other musicians and listeners. If you can imagine or perform better then provide your knowledge and I can guarantee they will learn and pick up. What reveals the negative souls is that they put thumbs down 👎 to express their sadness publicly. Please be bold enough to come out with your constructive criticisms for any artist rather than these coward act. You,👎 kind of people don’t qualify to put any remarks!!!!! The difference is obvious between a butterfly, bee and other species of flies are in origin and their sustaining material. around which they leave and fly around. Seek for nector and honey if not seek for your garbage elsewhere in KZbin. And if if you have the guts come out with your name and comments to back up the disgraceful sign. Thanks

How beautiful , sonorous , masterly treatment of a rag on harmonium rarely heard , rather never ever ... highly impressive with the rounded tonal quality .. a perfect understanding between both ... a hard difficult truth to speak that it is musical how much in abundance , in an over flowing quality and quantity , its fulness in supply .. ample sufficiency , copious .. plentifulness .. richness in Tabla sound and accompanying gesture and simplicity is worth sky high praises .. Harmonium does not seem a harmonium at all .. how melodic , melodious .... hard to believe that this is a harmonium .. and above all Suvendu da's mastered own right of playing the same .. an extreme torture as a total to listen to it .. It may prove very harmful for people with weak health at heart and having an extremely deep understanding and sensitivity enough towards the depth of melody and sweetness of music .. l find extremely hard and tough to define what happens inside on soul level while listening to this harmonium .. its above all praises .... I have a vast lexicon to appreciate this but all l feel is misfit ... My very best love and regards for such a life sowing and nurturing presentstion .
