Next video in my series on Harmony and Key.
I've said in previous videos that we could use classical music to talk to aliens...but Houston we have a problem!
This video explores the complications of music between Man and Martian.

I don't know, but it's the most amazing film score John Williams ever wrote.

I just came across your channel and find your videos interesting and informative. I will be using them in my middle school music appreciation class from now on! Thank you for making these short, careful, and entertaining! I've been looking for something exactly like this.

Thanks, this is all very informative and well put together! I just want to give a word of constructive criticism about the audio mixing: the sine waves you play for your examples are louder than anything else in the video, particularly your voice, and pure sine tones are already a bit painful to listen to (idk maybe that’s just me) so I’m having to turn the volume down to a level where I’m struggling to hear you clearly. Just something for the future :)

You’ll find that as you go up a major or minor scale, it goes well with a IVIVIVVI pattern in the bass.

Close Encounters? What are the notes? La Ré Mi And where was Devil's Tower? Wyoming. I went to school in Laremie and there were lots of sightings of Aliens in the area. We had one experience when some friends went for a drive in the countryside and were talking about why he chose those notes. And we saw someone who didn't look quite natural walking up ahead, in a VERY remote area. He ran into the field, we called out to him but he didn't respon. We went into town and called him on the local Mobile Phone (which weren't mobile at the time) and told the police. Later that night, we called the police again to see if everything was OK. They asked for our identity right away, and we didn't answer. Should we have called Area 51 for information?

Interesting that the 5th in the a major chord as demonstrated, vibrates at 660 vibrations p/second- because the 5th really divides the octave into 2 unequal parts. From a to e there are 7 semitones and from e to a there are 5 semitones. The semitone below the fifth should be exactly halfway between a@440 and a@880. Does anyone have an explanation for this?

The scale increases logarithmically. So 220 to 440 Hz is a ratio of 1:2, 440 to 660 2:3, 660 to 880 3:4, etc. So the ratios between the notes become compressed as you move up the harmonic series.
