they aren't forced actually, and this is pacing a gait that was bred into them in the 1800's and when they trot it's a natural gait , yes they are trained not to break out of that racing trot, but if done right it won't take much. Their legs are extremely sturdy and solid as well as their hooves. i have a standardbred that i broke for riding and she is absolutely amazing, still likes to pace the odd time but they are a wonderful breed! Do your research before you go bitching about them. There are unfair trainers in all aspects of the horse world but these ones did quite a nice job! They are drug tested immediately after the race and any sign of anything in their systems will warrant a suspension.

What is amazing to me is how windy it was...watch the flags. It would have been at least a couple 5ths faster I think

Could someone tell me why at the end of the race, the driver is stroking the horse's tail?
@jacobsandbulte35995 жыл бұрын
Gail Black they do that to try and get them to go faster without whipping them, over time during a race a horse can get a little annoyed of the whip if used too much so they try different ways to get the horse to go faster such as whipping the kart shaft, hitting the wheel with the whip, or flipping their tail.

It was a crying shame they didn't put a real driver in the sulky or we might have saw 1:45 flat. Mcdonnell couldn't drive a shit cart. at the time.

yes a great race....but you have to remember that american horses are souped up....and if they are raced the following week without the soup in the system are dealt with severley...these american horses maybe "good" but not that good without some help...just look at american athles at olympics....put these horses over 2 miles against Pure Steel or Gammalite or Blacks a Fake...then youll see a horse race!...i rest my case

The proof is in the pudding. Mr Feelgood was a LBJ winner and world champion 2 yo... And one of the best modern day pacers to have raced in ANZ. But he certainly didn't dominate. US harness racing is pretty unspectacular and typically all about time.

This is horrible these horses are being forced 2 trot so fast it's straining there legs and hurting them
@bgardiner335410 жыл бұрын
They pace... They don't trot. And that's probably the extent of ur knowledge.
@frankiemarsom527410 жыл бұрын
They still shouldn't make horses do that thicko it hurts them and can make them lame
@bgardiner335410 жыл бұрын
Thicko? Really? What are you, like 6 yrs old? That would explain it. I have a couple of facts for you. It won't change your mind because ignorant people have ignorant POV's, but here goes. Many pacers pace as foals. In fact, fairing pacers is as natural for most of them as it is for other horses cantering. Secondly, catastrophic injuries to pacers is significantly lower than in gallopers... I know you're heart is in the right place, but you don't know what ur talking about.

B Gardiner What do you call Number 3's gait at 3:06?
@bgardiner335410 жыл бұрын
A panter ;) half way between a pace and a canter. Very comfortable to ride.
