Haro is back! Get all the details (that I likely forgot) on the new Saguaro hardcore hardtail here at the Haro website: harobikes.com/collections/har.... Huge thanks to Haro for sponsoring this video! As a fan of the brand for over 25 years, it was really an honor to get to ride this bike.
I mention all sorts of component upgrades in the video- here they are- and any purchases from these links will help support my channel. Thanks in advance!
I’m running WTB 2.6 tires, a Vigilante Tough High Grip up front, and a Trailboss Tough Fast Rolling out back: jenson.sjv.io/WTB2.6tiresJKW
I’ve got standard CushCore in the rear wheel: bit.ly/CushCore2022jkw
I mentioned this DT 54t ratchet too many times in the video, but here’s the link: jenson.sjv.io/DTSwiss54tRatch...
The carbon OneUp 35mm rise bars have helped with compliance and comfort: jenson.sjv.io/OneUpCarbon35Ba...
I would never use a longer fork than a manufacturer would recommend, and if I did, I would probably find the air shaft available here: www.jensonusa.com/Fox-36-Air-...
I’m using the trusty Shimano Saint pedals: bit.ly/ShimanoSaintPedals2022JKW
For all you hardtail fanatics, here are all the hardtails available over at my pals Jenson USA: jenson.sjv.io/HardtailsJKW
If you’d rather a full squish, check out all the exclusive mountain bike builds only available at Jenson USA here: jenson.sjv.io/ExclusiveComple....

Dennis McCoy was one of the greatest to ever ride a Haro, Bob and Matt Hoffman are the other contenders. But, I am glad he mentioned Rick Moliterno, lesser known then DMC, but a great rider as well, and founder of Standard Bikes.

I like how you could see the differences of how you got on between the two sizes in your riding footage. Definitely styling it more on the medium! Cool to see Haro bringing out something like this and not a cashgrab with their name.

Thanks- can you guess which footage is on which size? Hint, some of the voice over whining about the large is actually over the medium frame riding... I still enjoyed the large, but def preferred the medium.

With Nukeproof, Ragley, Vitus, and GG out of the picture; aside from Marin the value aggro hardtail market is up for the taking. Haro could’ve been really aggressive on the price to own the market, but they didn’t. It’s an opportunity missed imo. Great content Jeff.

I feel that hard tails are making a bit of a comeback! Great for mucky winter riding, pump tracks, etc. I’d definitely recommend one for those looking to simplify their MTB and/or increase the difficulty of terrain :) Great n+1… I built up a Banshee Enigma as a single speed and it’s so fun.

Nice option in the hardtail market. Reminds me of my Specialized Fuse Comp. Similar specs, geo and burliness, but just a smidge slacker. I kept everything stock, 2.6 tires as well and feel like I can ride anywhere and not feel too bad about not affording a second (full sus) bike. Beautiful bike and shredding!

Jeff, thanks for your integrity. The expression on your face when discussing the first version of the bike you received showed you were struggling to say something positive. Pretty clear you did not like the first bike. You did not cut out that video but, instead, kept it real despite the fact Haro was a new sponsor, The size of a bike can make a real difference. I love hardtails, especially where I live here in Minnesota. Our trails, with the exception of Duluth and the North Shore above Lake Superior, are mostly flowy and fun and perfect for a hardtail. I am glad Haro is making a legit mountain bike. I feel like they should have been one of the better MTB brands since the get go when they started doing mountain bikes in the 90s, but they have never committed to making good mountain bikes that compete with other brands. Maybe BMX takes of too much of their resources, I don't know. But they definitely should get more into MTBs and broaden their product line while being one of the better brands out there, especially geometry wise.

Last Haro that I had was a steel (tangte prestige) Haro Werx SS Single Speed w/ an eccentric bb. Like your preproduction bike, it was a bit too large for me and I sold it off not soon after building it up. That said, I loved the frame quality and design, but alas, it was too big for me. Glad to see Haro back on the scene with a cool bike, but at 56 years old, I'll not be hammering whats left of my knees on a hardtail.

It's interesting to hear your thoughts on the sizing - I'm 5 '8 too, and my hardtail is a bit of a monster truck! 465mm reach, 64 HA, 78 SA, 425mm CS... I run it with a 35mm stem and 35mm rise bar. I haven't felt that it's too much for me to handle, it's great fun to ride. Although I am looking for a bar with a bit more compliance and sweep to make it a little more comfortable.

Love the reviews, but I must correct you on one thing... I grew up in Tucson... pronounce saguaro with a "wh" not a hard "g" ;). sa-WHARRO. I've been riding my Rocky Mtn Growler 50 for 3 years now and I still love it, though I've upgraded the brakes, handlebars, grips, pedals, and tires. Soon will be upgrading the fork. But I am sold on being a 50 year old on a hard tail for many of the reasons you mentioned. As a dad, I shouldn't be flying at 30+mph on a full suspension rig... the crashes are tougher to recover from. The hardtail keeps my speed lower, tires me out faster (so I can get back to my family), and keeps my bike handling skills sharp. And the simplicity is especially valued as life seems to get more complicated. I raced my Trek 8000 with a Mag21 shock all over northern Arizona back in the mid 90's and had a fully rigid Diamondback Ascent in 1989, so I've been a fan of the hardtail thing for 35+ years. Still have my '81 Mongoose BMX bike too. Hardtails will never go out of style!

sweet bike... many bikes using this 'rootdown' geo have realized this is about as a hardcore as you can take the geo or would like to on a hardtail. Exception maybe being the doctahawk and a bit more extreme on the ESD. However the failure of the Marin Elroy has only proven, there is only so far you can take geometry and fork length work without a proportionate pivot on the back (probably why Marin updated the San Quintens) Rootdown has now basically been imitated with slight deviations of maybe +- .5 Deg on HTA, STA and about 10mm on reach, chainstay and travel. (Roscoe, Knolly Tyaughton, Torrent, Meta HT AM, Pole Taivail just to name a few) One thing to note is fork travel. They really do work well at about 150mm max, without beginning to feel like a seesaw and this is still with a progressive high-end fork that is tuned to stay high in the travel... ALSO a fork that isn't too stiff. You may be tempted (as I was) to slap on a 38 or a Zeb, but its already a HT and at only 150mm of travel, a 36, Diamond, Lyrik, Z1 is PLENTY stiff. Don't believe me? Lets see your forearms after good 5 min chundry descent. Also show me on paper that you're any faster using a Fox 38 over a 36 at 150mm of travel. Its actually IMO unfortunate that everyone where I live, the trend gravitates to the largest forks they can, though its not the pacific NW nor bellingham, where being overworked has adverse effects to bike performance, especially riding anything other than descents. The sight being one of the most popular bikes where I live, when I ask these peeps... do you really prefer the Zeb, or 38 most of their answers are 'meh', it looks cool. edit... even XC moving to 34 for 100MM maybe as well. The Fox 831 could handle 4x, slopestyle and DJ and so does the current like of Manitou Circus. I just think homologating the chassis just makes manufacturing cheaper and sells the hyperbole that thicker is better.

Staring at my winter project- an RSD Middlechild. I’ve never owned a modern mountain bicycle… All my frames are hard tails but 26” and barely vee brakes. This bike looks very fun ! I went steel frame and hope to race enduros…after reading about reach and modern geo, it appears I’ve been riding a too big bicycle for over a decade :) this rsd has my ideal calculable reach and is medium- first impression it is a midgets bike 😊 but aint taken to the trails yet just… my kitchen floor 😂

You're going to love it. The Middlechild geo is built for fun. Total hoot to ride.

11:42 Since Haro is willing to do bold colors, I think they could do a bright blue metallic paint hue as well.

Great video! You should look up the Hardtail Gang. We got out on Galby this last weekend with 5 people on hardtails.

I love my old hardtail. 2018 Chameleon. I ride it as a much as my squishy bike. The only negative, and its personal preference is the ugly green with magenta decals. But it’s only colour so I don’t really care that much. I think we met once very briefly on the Train Wreck trail in Whistler. You said ‘Nice Bike" when I rode towards you. I know that guy I thought. But I often recognize people I only think I know.

My first legitimate downhill bike was a Haro MX2 (made by Intense Bikes... it was a M1 with Haro sticker) monocoque aluminum bike in 1999. I also had a Haro DHR I bought in 2001 that was a mix of monocoque and hydrofomed tubing, but it was still the exact same bike as the Intense M1, and it was made by Intense in the USA. I raced those bikes almost every weekend during the summer for 4 years. Big ol' 45 pound land yachts.

So sick you got one of those! I remember seeing them on sale in the mid 2000s! I had an M1 from late 2003 until ~2005. I broke a lot of chainstays/seat stays, but it was a GREAT bike. Got the frame for $900 from a buddy!

@@JeffKendallWeed I worked for a Haro dealership in Eureka California called Pro Sport Center when I was going to Humboldt State University. That's the ONLY way I could afford my DH addiction. Employee discounts straight from the bike company. I also had a carbon fiber inverted 8" travel downhill fork called the Bombshell Marilyn on both bike. It had a nitrogen charged damper and coil springs. It was THE plushest dual crown fork I've ever ridden on even to this day.

Id gladly ride one of those. Looks like a playful bike. Good on haro for making something up to par.

@@JeffKendallWeed I would like to see a 27.5” option as well or even 27.5+option. Being a hardtail, the plus size tire could add some cushion for the pushin.

As a 51-year old MTBer who spent many summers on his neon green Haro FST back in the mid 80s, it warms my heart to see Haro coming back into the MTB fold. I checked the website (I am currently about to pull the trigger on a new Santa Cruz Hightower) and I was sad to see no dual suspension bikes available. Hopefully they'll have a new all-mountain bike out soon?

More hardtail content please! I would still like to see you ride the RM Growler. I'm about to order a new wheelset for mine to make it more downcountry, and keep the stock 30mm internal wheels for the Butcher/Eliminator combo. In getting closer to middle aged too😄 So far I'm going with DT 350 hubs, EX 471 rear rim, XM 421 front rim, and at the same time converting it to 1x12 with various Shimano bits. It already has a 140 Z1 fork, old Formula One brakes I already had, and a Gen 3 Rainier dropper 🤙 Or do I go with 30mm rims since I ride trails in Virginia that have rocks and roots 😣
