One of the most beautiful scenes in the history of film. The acting is so tender and real. This scene should be watched every morning of one’s life.

I know your comment is from a few years ago…but I think this is one of the most important scenes in cinematic history. This movie is historically so important.

I feel like one should watch this scene every day. Maude-the perfect example of the active listener. She’s REALLY listening to him and caring about him.

I’d always thought he was funny looking. Not appealing. But he’s such a likable/loveable fellow (in this role) that I realize I was wrong. He IS nice to look at.

Bud Cort sells hopelessness and desperation so well. He was terrific in this film.

Lovely acting in this scene.. he opened up to Maude to tell her all that he couldn't say to the therapist.. & she gave him the perfect reinforcement - L- I - V- E !!

I really love this movie so much I watched it a million times and it’s such a cult classic and the way Harold and his mother is, kind of reminds me of me and my mother lol. What I still don’t understand is why would Maude think living up to 80 is the proper age to pass away. I mean if I was in her shoes I would want to live up to 100 instead of 80 because I think 100 is the oldest you can live up to. Still one of my favorite movies once again Harold and his Mother reminds me of me and my mother lol 😂 I was such a spoil brat

I think choosing when it's time to die is in harmony with her philosophy of life. Freedom of choice is fundamental for her and choosing when to die is propably a way of living death in a fully conscious way (rather than being surprised by death when you are not really expecting it or after a tiring ilness that makes you hate your own life).

Take an old, tired man and a quirky, switched-on young girl. Switch the ages around and you have a genius script. This needs to go on the West End with Meryl Streep or Helen Mirren. Perfect film.

I saw Harold and Maude in theaters when it first came out and have probably seen it over 50 times since. But I never made that connection: Harold has the soul of a tired old man. Honestly, your observation has my jaw hanging open. Thank you!

the first time I watched this movie i rented it from the library, then rented it and had everyone in my house rented it as well, but the library put a flag on our address because of this scene specific scene. it was so much easier to find a movie from the way back machine that I found in over 30 years my dad wasn't alone in his sedated years he preferred. I was homeless almost 8 years and manged to find room in my bag to bring this remarkable, undiscovered to the masses and not a single detail that is not wonderful. I'm obsessed I realize! lol

I cannot wait to watch this movie I was reading out of my 365 Prescriptions for the soul by Dr Bernie Siegel and the solution of the day was to watch Harold and Maude, in which Ruth Gordon plays an 80-year-old woman who says to a troubled young man. "Give me an L give me an I give me a V give me an E. LIVE!"
