Very helpful! I'm now going to try and replace a few quills myself. Just need to find a place to buy new quills. What is the background music?

I'm doing the same with my spinet I got cheaply on eBay. Nobody wanted it because it needed total overhauling. The old leather quills are in a terrible condition and I'm slowly replacing them with herring gull quills. I just cut the leather tips off and pierce the seagull quills from behind through the leather which makes them steady as a rock.

I would also like to know what the background music is.

Hi there, the background music is the Sonata No. 5 in F minor, BWV 1018, Movement I [Largo] from the Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord by J. S. Bach.

Very interested by your project - I too bought a spinet off Ebay and though in generally good condition (a 1977 Goble) it's proving hard to get 'spares' for the jacks, and the leather quills are bound to deteriorate eventually.....Was your restoration successful?.....How old is your instrument and what make?...

Wouldn't it have been better without the music in the background? Voicing is not this simple. You have to take into consideration resistance, volume, and regularity among all the jacks. Frankly, the sound of the "finished" jack tongue sounded rather harsh even with the sonata playing.

Wonderful to see the process done to my instrument being performed at the shop. I remember doing my delrin jacks similarly back in '71!
