There is a building, looking very like a London Passenger Transport Board 1920's Sub-station on the corner of Colina Rd and Green Lanes, one junction to the north, and on the same side, of St Ann's Rd. The new flats just built there have been built around the older building.
@thesteelrodent1796

if you mean the little red building that's visible on street view, then to me (as a non-Londoner) I'd say it looks rather more like an electrical substation or ventilation shaft than an actual train station, but it does have some peculiar signs on it that may be a clue to what it is/was
@Shalott63
@Shalott63 9 ай бұрын
You do get these little places that are ventilation shafts and/or substations on that line. There's another one on the north side of Bounds Green Road roughly half way between Wood Green and Bounds Green (on the corner of Nightingale Road) - the architecture (where not covered with graffiti) is very similar to the Holden stations in miniature.

Thank you, many memories from my youth. It surely would had been on Green Lanes, close to the present Goblin line station and the old Arena, which went in the late 60s. But before that had (ice)hockey, circus events and big night in the 1940s for Billy Graham. Outside; speedway, stock cars and greyhound racing. The tube could have had significant passengers then. I understand it was redeveloped after I left, but a tube station there would had made sense.

I suspect cost was also a factor as to build a station on st. Anne's Corner would have required London Transport to either purchase The Salisbury pub, a quite substantial building or on the opposite side there was the Coliseum Cinema which at that time would have been thriving so the owners would have been unlikely to sell. It was demolished in late 2000. Don't forget there is also Haringay station on the east coast main line which happens to then call at Finsbury Park, true its more to the southwest of Haringay but perhaps this also influenced their decision to not double up further than was absolutely necessary.

Well, I’m glad it wasn’t built as we may have lost the “Salisbury”; a rather nice piece of architecture. When I visited it in the 1970s, it still had its original interior and was selling Courage Directors. Of course that may have changed in the last fifty years.

IIRC due to the distance between Turnpike Lane and Manor House stations there is still a ventilation shaft (and possibly emergency evacuation access) built during construction on the railway somewhere in the vicinity of the proposed St Ann’s station. It’s a pity that this was not built in such a way that it could be converted to a station at a later date though I imagine some would say that the volume of passengers using the pic means the disbenifits to existing travellers would outweigh any local benefits. I also seem to recall that during the early planning of the Victoria line consideration was given to adding a stop on that to serve the Harringay Green Lanes / St Ann’s area but that was dropped fairly early on.

I've often wondered if the maintenance access point between Bounds Green & Wood Green (map co-ordinates: 51.602579, -0.119767) was ever intended to be a station. It's certainly much larger and more notable than a lot of access points on the tube - likely because the area was rather under-developed when it was built, so they had space to stretch their legs - and although it's only a short hop between the two existing stations, it's not unprecedented to have platforms so close together (cf the Piccadilly / District Line stations in Chiswick).

I think you need to get yourself a big black cloak, with a hood, that you can throw up to the tube train window, so that you can film the tunnels and show us where in the tunnel an unbuilt station would be. There are some that are partially built and if you can resolve the reflection issue and get figure out the right lighting settings, maybe you can get a good look at what remains of the platforms.

I believe that what is at the corner of Colina Road and Green Lanes - only recently hidden by housing development - and very near to the junction of Green Lanes and St Ann's Road is a ventilation shaft for the line, so presumably the proposed station would have been adjacent. Interesting comment on an abandoned 'third line' - not sure if that meant that was built and abandoned or that it was planned and abandoned? Also that Bounds Green was deleted from the planning, but reinstated. Of course, that is an very close 'Out of Station Interchange (not well known) with Bowes Park on the Great Northern LIne, but as that line isn't (yet?) TfL, and doesn't show on the tube map, it can't be shown! Shame that, like at Haringey, the Tube/Rail and Rail/Rail stations can't be better connected.

I think we're better off with the Salisbury. Nothing wrong with the walk from Turnpike Lane to Manor House, which is usually quicker than any motorized mode of transport along Green Lanes anyway. Harrumph.

Hidden fact: did you know green Lanes has record amount of traffic cameras installed. So much so, that if you stop and sneeze, you'll get a parking ticket.

You’re not joking, either. They sent me a ticket for parking outside my house the other week. I wouldn’t mind so much but I live in Chesterfield!

Funny how they seem to use the cameras to check parking rather than prevent speeding, particularly on the section between St Ann's Road and Turnpike Lane. Might as well be a drag strip.

Why do I feel that in England, St. Anns would be turned into Satan's as local slang pretty quickly. LOL

This station would have provided excellent access to the nearby and now sadly defunct and disappeared Harringay Stadium and Arena

I've never been to Harringay to the best of my knowledge, but it looks appealing in this video. I like the old, low buildings on and near St. Ann's Road. Was it spared from the Blitz? An imposing Charles Holden modernist station might look out of place, although with great ignorance and no thought I'm assuming he primarily designed rounded structures.

It would of been on the corner of St Anne's road and green lanes it would of been where that new building on it also there's a substation along green lanes

Maybe tfl should add that station. As you say its quite a long walk to manor house and to turnpike lane and the busses more or less gridlock at rush hour. While adding stations I think tfl also ought to extend the Victoria line from walthamstow to Whipps cross hospital (costs mean its very unlikely to happen - I know)

Now you tell me - all those miles I schlepped up to Manor House with my mum to get the Tube as a child in the 1950s and there should have been one on my doorstep. Those fumes I inhaled from the overloaded lorries creeping up the hill past Finsbury may have affected my health; who do I sue?
