HARRIS HAWK , FITTING TAIL MOUNT without casting.

Falconry, I am documenting my journey, this is how I fit my telemetry and tail mount, some previous hunting footage at the end.

The tail mounting went as planned! One question I have is, why didn't you use the garden perch when you placed the telemetry and bell on his mount? You had your wife hold him instead, and there's no way he would want to eat on her hand easily without him making territorial calls at her! You did end up hooding him briefly because that would have been the end result! Excellent slow-mo clips of the swoops that Woody made! I almost thought you were going to show him crashing into some brush and causing one of his deck feathers to get damaged, which has happened in the past!

if I had used the perch on this more difficult longer task, he would need to hold the rabbit leg himself and the leash and jesses would give him the possibility to jump if he drops the rabbit. with holding him on a glove he is help with no chance to go any were, also my wife was holding the rabbit, this way he can’t drop it. This longer task would be almost impossible on a perch, I didn’t want half the job completed before he had finished the rabbit. I hope this helps with your question.

Yeah, I'd say it helps for sure! I'll tell you one thing, there was a lot of twisting you were doing with those cables ties. It seems like a lot more effort is achieved to protect the transmitter from coming undone! Its actually too much for someone like me to try to do with my future hawk!

The cable ties, is that 2 on each deck? Not important, just interested. I prefer the first method as most of what I do is on my own. Lovely filming to finish and I enjoy the choice of music. Thank you.

Thank you for asking great question, yes 2 cable ties on each deck. I don't use that idea ever now just a cripped clip on one deck or anklet mount.

Very informative video! thanks brother. I'm fitting mine and the medium keeps falling off. Curious to know, does he use a medium clip or a micro medium, and what brand of glue do you use?

Thank you, I try them on old tail feathers first as they can vary , eBay tail mount clips, medium possibly. once fitted I give the back side a little extra squeeze, the clamping tool doesn’t always close them tight enough. The glue is any brand of none drip super glue , the last was from a convenience shop, almost don’t need it but it’s just extra security. hope that help 👍
